"I... I..." I was so frightened that I could barely speak.
"Commander, it's all my fault." The soldier struggled to sit up, speaking urgently. "I was the one who told him the truth without permission. Please don't blame this child."
"You really love to meddle," Claire scoffed, glancing at the soldier behind him. "Take him away and keep a close watch on him!"
Two soldiers stepped forward in response, grabbing the poor Infected Person and dragging him out. The soldier turned back, looking at me with pleading eyes, shouting, "Child, run! I'm sorry for what I've done, but you must survive! You have to tell the world the truth!"
With that, he was pulled out of the Medical Room, gradually disappearing beyond the door. The room fell silent, leaving only Claire and me staring at each other.
"Now you know everything," Claire said, fixing his gaze on me with an unreadable expression. "What do you plan to do?"
I clenched my teeth, suppressing the fear and anger within me. "I will expose the truth to the public. I want the whole world to know who is responsible for the innocent lives lost!"
"Just you?" Claire laughed derisively. "A defenseless student? What waves can you possibly make? Besides, do you really think anyone will believe you? Without evidence, everything you say is just empty words."
"There will always be a way," I insisted stubbornly, lifting my chin. "The truth and justice cannot be suppressed. As long as I have breath in me, I will not give up."
Claire narrowed his eyes, seemingly angered by my defiance. "I advise you to be careful; don’t play with your own life," he said slowly. "Just do your job as a doctor. After this plague passes, maybe you'll get a share of the spoils. Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to let you experience the consequences of betrayal."
With that, he turned on his heel and strode out, leaving me alone in the empty room in a daze.
After a long while, I finally came to my senses. Everything that had just happened felt like a nightmare, but I knew this was the harsh reality.
Human nature, morality, and law are all so fragile in the face of desire and power. Can I truly stand against evil forces all on my own?
But another voice tells me I have no choice. If I lack the courage to expose the truth, how am I any different from those selfish demons? Moreover, I promised Lucy that I would take her out of this hell on earth. I cannot fall here; I cannot let innocent lives be sacrificed in vain!
With that thought, I clenched my fists. No matter what GH Company or Claire Colonel stands in my way, today, Matthew Wright will fight you to the end! The truth must be revealed to the world!
But how do I go about it? One person's strength is too weak; I need like-minded partners. Right, there must be others in this base who share my sense of justice. If we unite, we have nothing to fear!
The urgent task is to find those trustworthy individuals and quietly sow the seeds of truth. At the same time, I need to gather solid evidence—recordings or footage—anything that can prove Claire's crimes. With that, I can expose him openly and make him feel ashamed before the entire world!
With this thought, a fire ignited within me. I jumped out of bed and quickly walked out of the Medical Room, heading towards Lucy's room. This is not the time to be weak; I need to learn from this brave little girl and face everything fearlessly like she does.
Pushing open the door, I saw Lucy curled up on her bed, sobbing. “Matthew brother, where have you been? I'm so scared; I had a terrible nightmare where Mom and Dad turned into monsters and wanted to eat me…”
I stepped forward and gently pulled her into my embrace. “Don’t be afraid, Lucy; I'm here. From now on, I am your family, and I will always protect you.”
“Really?” Lucy looked up with tear-filled eyes, a hint of joy appearing on her small face.
“Of course it’s true.” I nodded firmly. “But right now, brother has a very important mission to complete. I need your help, okay?”
After hearing my explanation, a determined light sparkled in Lucy's eyes. “I understand, Matthew brother. You go ahead and do what you need to do; I've got your back!”
Seeing Lucy's brave smile warmed my heart, and I gave her a big hug. With the support of this little angel, what was there to fear?
