We burst into the dormitory, frantically searching through the notebooks left by our parents.
"I found it!" Fei Wan screamed, pulling a worn leather-bound notebook from my bookshelf.
I trembled as I took it; this tattered thing might be the key to unraveling all the mysteries.
As I opened the first page, a yellowed photograph fell out. It depicted a group of robed figures, with the leader clutching a stone that glimmered with an eerie light.
"No way, this can't be..." Fei Wan gasped.
"Relic," I murmured, my heart racing as if it might leap out of my throat.
Suddenly, there was a commotion outside the window. I glanced over warily and saw several dark figures darting past.
"Damn it, we're being targeted!" I grabbed Fei Wan. "We need to get out of here!"
Just as we burst through the door, a group of men in black blocked our way.
"Hand over the Relic!" the leader shouted arrogantly.
I scoffed. "Want it? Come and take it!"
Before I could finish my sentence, I lunged at the nearest enemy. The power surging within me made me feel invincible; my speed and strength soared to new heights.
Fei Wan was not to be outdone either; her beast transformed into a flash of white light, instantly tearing through several of the black-clad figures.
As we fought, I inadvertently caught sight of a figure in black with a black badge pinned to his chest, prominently engraved with the words "Obsidian Society."
"Just as I suspected, those bastards!" A heavy feeling settled in my heart, confirming my earlier thoughts.
After a few minutes of intense battle, the ground was littered with fallen members of the black-clad group. The remaining cowards, sensing defeat, turned and fled.
"Don't let them get away!" I was about to chase after them when Fei Wan grabbed my arm.
"Wait! We need to figure out what this Obsidian Society really is first," she said.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to suppress the urge to pursue. "You're right. We need to find a safe place to thoroughly examine Mom and Dad's notes."
We decided to head to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. That cursed place had once been where my parents conducted secret research, so there should still be some equipment left behind.
All the way there, we moved like thieves, carefully avoiding any potential pursuers. Finally, just before dawn, we arrived at our destination.
Pushing open the dilapidated factory door, a musty odor filled the air. We fumbled in the dark until we found the entrance to the basement.
"This place should be safe," I sighed in relief and switched on my flashlight.
Fei Wan had already started flipping through the notebook. "Look at this!" She pointed to a page filled with dense scribbles. "It mentions the Obsidian Society!"
I leaned in closer to examine it and saw written: "Obsidian Society, a colossal entity lurking in the shadows. These lunatics aim to harness the power of otherworldly beasts to control the entire nation. They must be stopped..."
"Shit," Fei Wan gasped, "these bastards have such big ambitions!"
I continued reading: "The Obsidian Society possesses advanced technology and powerful beast control techniques. They aim to create nationwide chaos to seize control of the country..."
Just then, my phone suddenly vibrated. A text from an unknown number read: "Members of the Guardians Alliance across the region are under attack, suspected to be by the Obsidian Society. Respond quickly."
Fei Wan and I exchanged glances, both seeing shock and concern in each other's eyes.
"It seems the situation is even more serious than we thought," I gritted my teeth. "We need to find a way to deal with the Obsidian Society as soon as possible."
Fei Wan nodded, suddenly struck by an idea. "Wait, I remember there's a quirky antique shop in the university town. The owner is said to know a lot about beasts. Maybe that old man can help us?"
My eyes lit up. "Great idea! Let's go find him!"
Just as we were about to leave, the ground suddenly shook violently. A deafening roar echoed above us.
"Damn it, they've found us!" I muttered under my breath.
With a loud bang, the basement door was blown open. Through the dust and smoke, a familiar figure sauntered in.
"Long time no see, Liu Buqi," Wu Mingyuan sneered. "I didn't expect your parents left behind so many secrets. But now, they're all mine."
