He woke up.
I turned to see Li Dawei slowly opening his eyes.
When he saw me, his eyes lit up. "Xinran, you finally decided to come see me. I knew you wouldn't be that heartless."
Who came to see him?
How self-indulgent.
Li Dawei glanced at the others. "You all go out; I have something to say to Xinran."
My Mom immediately smiled apologetically. "Alright, alright, we'll step outside. You two take your time."
With that, My Mom pulled the others away.
Li Dawei looked at me, his eyes filled with expectation. "Xinran, you're here to hear my explanation, right? Just give me a chance; we can talk this through."
"Xinran, what happened with Duranqing was just an accident. I have no feelings for her. She seduced me and teased me; I'm just a normal man who couldn't resist in the moment... Xinran, don't worry; I won't contact her again. I want to be with you properly, okay?"
"Do you know what?"
"Uh-huh?"

I took a deep breath and looked at him coldly. "Li Dawei, you cheated. That's unforgivable. I won't forgive you again; don't try to explain anything to me—it's disgusting."
"Is it Yu Shenglin?" Li Dawei said coldly.
"What?"
"Are you breaking up with me because of him?"
Li Dawei seemed agitated. "Xinran, you've been used by him."
I didn't want to waste another word on him.
I turned and left the hospital room.
Behind me came Li Dawei's roar—
"Yu Shenglin did this on purpose! He wanted you to catch me cheating so you'd break up with me, so he could take advantage of the situation! Xinran, don’t be fooled by him!"
I paused in my steps.
Li Dawei's words exploded in my mind.
Why was Yu Shenglin on the High-Speed Rail? Why did he have videos of Li Dawei and Duranqing doing that kind of thing on his phone? And what a coincidence that I happened to see those videos at that moment. Was it really just a coincidence? I couldn't make sense of it all. I had to find Yu Shenglin and get some answers.
As soon as I stepped out of the hospital, Yu Shenglin's call came through. Perfect timing, as I wanted to talk to him.
I answered the phone, "Hello."
"I heard Li Dawei woke up. Are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine. Where are you?"
"At home. Are you coming to find me?"
"Yeah."
"Great, I'll send you the address."
"Okay."
After hanging up, I immediately received the address from Yu Shenglin. His place wasn't far from the hospital; it would only take an hour by car.
Just as I got into the car, my phone rang again. This time, it was an unknown number.
I answered, "Hello."
"Xinran, it's me."
It was Duranqing. Her voice sounded hoarse, probably from the blow I gave her with the golf club.
"What's up?" I replied coldly.
"Xinran, let's meet."
"I'm busy."
"I need to talk to you about Yu Shenglin."
Yu Shenglin. Again, it was about Yu Shenglin.
I felt like I had fallen into Yu Shenglin's trap.
"The address has been sent."
"Okay."
Yu Shenglin looked pleased to see me. "Xinran, you're here."
I sat down on the sofa with a blank expression.
Yu Shenglin poured me a glass of water and sat down across from me.
I took the cup, had a sip, and said, "So, what's your purpose?"
"Actually..."
Yu Shenglin hesitated for a moment.
"Never mind, you should know about this anyway; it was only a matter of time."
I listened quietly.
Yu Shenglin sighed. "I have been betrothed to Duranqing since we were children. I don't like her and have always wanted to break off this engagement, so I used your relationship with Li Dawei as an excuse to do so."
It was just as I suspected.
I wasn't surprised at all.
I looked at him. "Duranqing likes you, right? Does she know about your plan?"
"No."
"Then why hasn't she retaliated against me?"
"Because I have evidence of the Du Group's crimes, that's why she doesn't dare to do anything to you."
I see.
I looked at him again. "So those rumors online were also spread by you?"
"Yes," Yu Shenglin nodded. "I manipulated things behind the scenes to let our incidents escalate, making my withdrawal from the engagement seem justified."
He truly was a scumbag.
