It is said that adversity is the best teacher in life, and hardships are the greatest wealth in life. In the past, I felt that it was just the person involved being sentimental and playing the role of Ah Q. It wasn't until I experienced it myself that I realized it was not the case.
Looking back on the first forty years of my life, although I came from a rural background and a poor family, from taking the college entrance exam to graduating and being assigned to the city government, I also experienced some setbacks along the way, but they were just small ripples. This huge blow made me truly reflect on and understand life, as well as experience the different faces of people, and appreciate what real life, human emotions, and human nature are.
At Medical College, I finally found an ideal place - the library. There are many books, magazines, and newspapers here. But many of the books and periodicals have hardly been looked at.
In the library, I quickly became familiar with the librarian Moana.
Moana is a very quiet and elegant woman. Perhaps due to the lack of sunlight for many years, she is particularly fair, and the blood vessels on her skin are clearly visible. At first glance, her appearance is not very eye-catching, but it is especially pleasing upon closer inspection. In addition, she is a woman who is good at beautifying herself with clothes and accessories. Her frequently changing and well-coordinated attire sets off her not very plump figure, making her exceptionally graceful and charming.
Our initial interaction was just nodding and smiling, then we exchanged greetings like "hello" and "good morning" as a matter of courtesy. Later, our gazes lingered on each other for longer periods, and eventually, our communication became increasingly intimate.
Moana should know that as an Executive Vice Mayor's secretary, it's not surprising to end up at a place like Medical College after being disciplined and reassigned. When I talk to Moana, there's no disdain in her tone or pity in her eyes. Even when discussing our respective experiences, she remains calm, composed, and genuine.
Moana's experiences aren't any better than mine. Her husband was originally a teacher at a local vocational college, but later went to Beijing Normal University for further studies and stayed there because of a pretty classmate, not due to work. They got divorced, and without children, she lives alone.
I am here at Moana, able to avoid the vulgarity and boredom of the logistics department, and temporarily forget about the neglect, disdain, and gossip in society. In the gentle whispers of Moana, I can slowly calm my emotions, repair, and soothe my wounded soul. Both of us have been abandoned by this world, one by husband and love, the other by wife and marriage, by the officialdom and career.
The first time I entered Moana's home was about two months after I arrived at Medical College. I found out she hadn't come to work for two days, thinking she might be busy at home or something else. But when I called her home, I heard severe coughing on the other end, turns out she was sick.
I knew she lived in Dongsheng Lido, not good to go during the day, so I quietly bought fruits and flowers at night, and only called when I got to the entrance of the community to let her know I was coming to visit. Her physical and mental state were not very good. Knowing she hadn't eaten anything all day, I cut the fruit first, then found vegetables in the fridge and cooked porridge to bring to her. Moana was very moved by my arrival. After eating, her complexion immediately brightened, with a blush like a young girl.
After that, I often went to Moana's house. Luckily, she lived alone, and her family was in the county, so there were rarely any visitors and she didn't have much contact with people outside. Sometimes, when her light bulbs or toilet were broken, or when she bought fresh fruits and vegetables, she would call me over.
The third time I visited, we became intimate. That day, Moana made "noodle fish," and we drank some wine. We both sweated a little, and Moana turned on the water heater and gave me a set of pajamas to take a shower at her place. At first, we chatted through the door, but later we just opened the door and she pulled me into the bathroom.
