Chapter Eleven: Someone Crawled Out of the Television!
Bai Luo was smiling.
It was the most infuriating smile.
He clearly saw the blazing anger in Major's eyes across from him. After a moment of thought, he added, "Um, Officer, you don't look so good. In our Easterners' culture, a pale face might be related to kidney function. You know what kidney function is, right? It's about urination—frequent urination, urgency, and not being able to finish..."
As soon as Bai Luo finished speaking, Major's expression darkened even further. One of the soldiers beside him nearly burst out laughing.
Major replied coldly, "I don't need you to worry about me. Where are your parents? It seems that not everyone in this villa is Easterners."
He gestured to the yellow talismans and Talisman Pen that had been found on Bai Luo. "And what are these?"
These questions were quite sharp, but along with Major's words, another voice entered Bai Luo's ears.
It was Mizumura Memeko's voice, hidden within him. The loli sounded a bit anxious: "Bai Luo, did you... feel that?"
Mizumura Memeko was a ghost, and her nervous tone indicated she sensed something. Although Bai Luo felt somewhat confused, he took it seriously and responded inwardly, "What's wrong?"
Before Mizumura Memeko could answer, Bai Luo had already begun to "see" the changes for himself.
The change came from the only television in the villa.
That colorful, boxy television suddenly turned on by itself, and at that moment, it emitted a loud crackling noise that almost instantly made everyone in the room cover their ears.
The sound drew the attention of almost everyone in the room, especially that Major standing in front of the colorful television. He instinctively covered his ears and turned around in a flash.
What met his eyes was…
The screen of the television suddenly lit up, and to his surprise, it was broadcasting a black-and-white image. The quality was low, but it was clear enough to reveal a distant view of a dilapidated ancient well.
The camera angle seemed fixed, yet the terrifying, piercing noise added an eerie atmosphere to the black-and-white image.
Upon seeing this scene, Bai Luo immediately realized something. Covering his ears amidst the deafening noise, he murmured, “Could this be…”
As Bai Luo’s words were drowned out by the noise, a pale arm suddenly reached out from the dry well, gripping its edge. Following that, a woman’s head with disheveled hair emerged from the well.
Clearly, a woman was climbing out from within.
The others present also recognized this moment; it was the classic scene of the legendary ghost Sadako making her appearance.
Then, as if the electrical circuit had faltered, the image flickered violently. The woman climbing out of the dry well seemed to teleport right outside it, suddenly close to the camera.
At that same moment, Bai Luo heard Mizumura Memeko’s voice in his mind: “It’s her! I just felt her presence; she seems to… be my Kindred.”
Just as Mizumura Memeko finished speaking, the television screen flickered again. The figure of the disheveled woman in white filled the entire screen as she reached out her hand—suddenly, a pale arm with gray fingernails shot out from the television.
In an instant, all the lights in the private villa began to flicker wildly.
This was indeed the horrifying scene of Sadako crawling out of the television.
After Mizumura Memeko's appearance, Bai Luo was no longer surprised to see Sadako.
However, with the murderous ghost so close, Bai Luo could no longer maintain his "genuine" smile. He gritted his teeth against the piercing noise and began to flip through his Talisman exchange list.
According to the usual pattern, after this ghost made a lightning-fast entrance, there would surely be a bloody rampage, followed by him using a Yellow Talisman to suppress her. In the end, that Major would kneel before him in submission, allowing him to play the role perfectly.
However...
Bai Luo never expected that the Major standing in front of him would draw a handgun from his waist and fire a whole magazine at the television.
The colorful television with its slick back was shattered into pieces, and the noise along with Sadako, who was crawling out, vanished instantly.
The Major swiftly holstered his gun and picked up a walkie-talkie. "We have discovered a mutant using a television for spatial transmission. Requesting backup. Over."
Then he turned to Bai Luo with a smug expression that Bai Luo couldn't comprehend and said, "This mutant must have a reason for pinpointing the endpoint of their spatial jump here. Although you are not a mutant, you are likely connected to them. I seriously suspect that these yellow special papers are your means of communication with a mutant possessing specific abilities. Buddy, you might need to come with us."
"Go screw yourself! Are you out of your mind? You just blew up Sadako's television!"
This was Bai Luo's retort.
The Major had mistaken Sadako for a mutant.
Yet the Major didn’t think there was anything wrong with his deduction; instead, he felt quite pleased. He looked at the chubby-faced kid in front of him and thought: Keep smiling! Keep pretending to be harmless! I've finally caught evidence linking you to mutants. You think you can mess with me? I'll make sure you regret it.
Thus, he ordered directly, "Arrest him!"
Several of his subordinates moved at the sound and charged directly at Bai Luo.
But what awaited them was a yellow paper talisman that Bai Luo swiftly threw out. Although all the talismans on him had been taken away, he still had points to spend.
Bai Luo immediately exchanged thirty points for a "Fireball Talisman" from the System Mall.
The Fireball Talisman wasn't particularly powerful, but it could indeed unleash a seemingly formidable fireball.
The talisman ignited in mid-air, transforming into a fireball with a diameter of four meters. The warriors in the room let out strange cries, and the two who had just rushed toward Bai Luo instantly changed color and fled, covering their heads.
The Major's face also changed drastically as he hurriedly tried to dodge. His voice turned high-pitched as he exclaimed, "You really are a mutant!"
