Chapter Seventeen: Lush Green Everywhere
Bai Luo was just beginning to calm down.
He glanced at Logan, shaking his head at the rare display of concern from the Wolverine.
By the clock, thirty seconds should have passed, which meant that the Reincarnator must have "arrived on the battlefield" by now.
So where were they? What were their intentions? Would they intersect with his path?
These were the questions Bai Luo had to face. The Reincarnator was a Reincarnator, but Bai Luo was a genuine traveler from another world. Faced with the Reincarnator, he actually had three paths to choose from: first, to keep his distance and pretend he was unaware of their existence; second, to cooperate with them, which could be akin to seeking shelter with a tiger but might also bring Bai Luo endless possibilities; third, to confront them directly.
Bai Luo slowly stood up.
At that very moment, roughly two minutes after the System's notification, the broadcast on the bar's television screen showing an anti-mutant rally suddenly changed.
A missile, trailing a long tail of fire, whizzed in from off-screen and struck the podium where a Senator stood. The explosion filled the entire screen with blinding light.
The Sentinel Robots sprang into action almost instantly, but at that moment, an incredibly massive figure leaped down from above.
In the poor quality of the television image, Bai Luo couldn't clearly see what this figure was, but it appeared to be some kind of creature with ash-gray fur, possessing unimaginable strength. In an instant, it tore apart two large Sentinel Robots.
Amidst the splintering steel and flames, this monstrous being let out a thunderous laugh as it charged directly into the crowd of civilians below, unleashing a scene of the most brutal slaughter.
The camera shook violently, and the face of a slightly panicked female reporter appeared on screen. "It's mutants! Mutants are attacking..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a sickly green arm reached in from off-camera and pushed her to the ground. Immediately after, a fully green-skinned man with a wrinkled face appeared before the lens. He squinted at the camera and said, "Sorry, we’re not taking the blame for this. We have no connection to mutants whatsoever, but we are closely related to everyone in your world. We give you one week to hand over the Professor and the Cosmic Cube, or else..."
His words were abruptly cut off as two blinding red beams suddenly shot in from the side.
The green-skinned man dodged the attack just in time, reaching out to turn the camera to face the source of the laser beams—there stood Laser Eye Scott Summers, unabashedly showcasing his powers, intending to stop these rampaging lunatics.
The cold voice of the green-skinned man echoed from off-screen: "See? That’s what a mutant looks like. If you don’t want thousands to die, hand over Charles. This isn’t a threat; it’s your only choice because tonight, Kansas City will mark the beginning of destruction for the entire world!"
At that moment, the broadcast cut out.
The once noisy bar fell into a deathly silence.
Then, screams erupted from the crowd.
Mizumura Memeko said, "What’s going on? Bai Luo, should we run?"
Bai Luo remained fixated on the now completely black screen of the television.
No one in the room understood the situation better than Bai Luo.
Although the rapid development of events far exceeded Bai Luo's expectations, it was clear that the two individuals who had appeared on screen were Reincarnators.
They were Reincarnators Bai Luo had only seen in dreams before.
At this moment, Bai Luo realized that his journey was not merely about being transported to a Marvel world; it had ushered him into a brand new, incredible realm.
He stood still, gazing up at the pitch-black screen.
Logan also rose to his feet and said, "I plan to go take a look."
Bai Luo turned to him and replied, "I'll go with you."
...
At this moment, Bai Luo was standing atop a tall building, overlooking a large plaza below.
Logan crouched at the edge beside him, one hand extending with his wolf claw, his gaze dangerously fixed on the ground beneath.
Bai Luo had affixed an Eagle Eye Talisman to himself to ensure he could clearly see everything happening in the plaza from such a distance.
This was precisely where the Reincarnators had launched their initial attack.
They had no intention of relocating; Laser Eye had already fallen in battle. His body hung limply, head bowed and eyes closed, never to emit another ray of laser light. The actions of these Reincarnators were clearly meant as a warning.
Bai Luo was not surprised by Laser Eye's presence here.
Charles had long since detected Magneto's plans and would undoubtedly send someone. However, he probably never anticipated that Scott would meet such an inexplicable end here.
Bai Luo had been observing for a long time, and it was confirmed that this group of Reincarnators was indeed a team of Chinese, consisting of only five members. Among them were two newcomers, who huddled in a corner, trembling in fear. The other three were more experienced Reincarnators.
At the forefront was the man with the sickly green skin, standing amidst a sea of corpses in the square. His body was partially sunk into the ground, and from him, a patch of "sickly green land" was spreading. This substance resembled some kind of virus, devouring the corpses in its path. As it consumed these bodies, the speed at which this green land spread increased. In just half an hour, nearly a thousand square meters of the square had been overtaken by this green expanse.
This green substance exuded an unsettling aura, releasing a foul stench that even Bai Luo could smell from the rooftop in the distance.
Wherever this green material spread, even steel was corroded.
It felt more like a domain that was expanding.
If it continued to spread at this rate, taking over Kansas City within a day might not be impossible.
Aside from him, there were two other Reincarnators. One appeared to be a Gunslinger Reincarnator, fully equipped with weapons, while the other was an invulnerable werewolf. It was this werewolf that single-handedly crushed the initial military forces that had arrived. As the sickly green ground expanded, those ground troops found it impossible to penetrate this area; any vehicle that drove onto this land would be instantly corroded through. The fragile human body seemed utterly powerless against such a force. Yet for some reason, the werewolf and the Gunslinger Reincarnator could move freely across this unique terrain without any adverse effects.
