Chapter Twenty-Five: Conclusion
The ground here was a sickly green, still not completely "withered," emanating a foul stench.
A considerable number of police and military forces had gathered, while Logan had long since disappeared, slowly closing in on the remaining two Reincarnators.
Bai Luo circled around, finding an opening to enter. From a distance, he fired two shots with his silver gun, taking the heads of the two trembling Reincarnators.
They were utterly inexperienced newcomers, and it seemed that the Forgiving Color Reincarnator had no intention of caring for their fates, allowing them to face life and death on their own. Even after spending so much time in this world, they remained in a state of fear, too scared to run. Under Bai Luo's two shots, they showed no reaction at all. Meanwhile, the police approaching in a fan shape changed color and quickened their pace upon discovering Bai Luo, opening fire as well.
However, Bai Luo was like a ghost now, and the area was already in chaos; he swiftly maneuvered away.
The points he gained from killing the two Reincarnators were minimal—only fifty points each—but Bai Luo's motivation for killing them went beyond just points.
He had never been a good person. Since he had already targeted this Reincarnator team, he was determined to eradicate them completely. A Reincarnator was still a Reincarnator; even if they were new in a movie world, as long as they could recover, they posed a significant threat. Bai Luo did not want to take that risk. Moreover, since he aimed to prevent these Reincarnators from completing their mission, their fate would be death if they failed.
The Main God showed no mercy, and most Reincarnators were similar. Bai Luo would prefer to coexist peacefully with them, provided they held the same peaceful intentions.
Bai Luo rummaged through a broken clothing store and found a loose garment to cover his tattered clothes before stepping onto the streets of Kansas City under the cover of night.
Due to the conflict among the Reincarnators, this area had become deserted; the streets were eerily quiet except for the occasional passing police car. Bai Luo slipped into an alley and easily evaded detection using his Talisman.
However, he soon realized he was in an extremely awkward predicament.
He had no money.
With Logan missing and the previous villa no longer an option for shelter, all his belongings were left behind there.
Thus, in the vast darkness of Kansas City, the very Bai Luo who had just saved the entire city found himself without money for lodging or food.
Regardless of the era or world, one could do without superpowers but never without money.
As Bai Luo left these nearly emptied streets behind him, he noticed that there were slightly more people on the roads ahead.
He was contemplating whether to rob a nut shop when he heard a voice behind him say, "Hey, did you just come from over there?"
Bai Luo turned around, and his eyes couldn't help but brighten slightly.
He saw a delicate little girl.
With a slightly rosy face, big eyes, golden hair with gentle waves, and fair skin typical of Caucasians—she was shorter than Bai Luo but was pointing towards the square not far away.
"Yeah," Bai Luo replied.
The little girl blinked her big eyes and asked, "Are you homeless?"
Bai Luo was momentarily stunned. Just then, her parents approached. With such a beautiful daughter, her parents were also a striking couple; her father ruffled her hair affectionately.
The little girl looked up and pointed at Bai Luo, saying, "He's homeless."
Upon hearing this, her mother squatted down in front of Bai Luo and asked, "Poor child, where are your parents?"
Bai Luo stared at the two adults and the little girl for a moment. He hesitated between robbing the nut shop and lying, ultimately choosing the latter.
Bai Luo decided to abandon his advantage as a traveler. He forced a sorrowful expression and said, "Yes, my parents were just at the square. They were killed by that huge monster with gray fur. I... we came from Kansas City. I... I'm homeless now."
As soon as he spoke those words, the little girl's parents exchanged glances, while she tugged at her father's shirt.
It was clear that this family was well-off. Of course, with Bai Luo's current abilities, he could easily navigate Kansas City without fear; even if these three were human traffickers, they wouldn't pose any threat to him.
In the end, the outcome was favorable. The mother said, "How about this... child, would you mind coming home with us and staying for a night? The police will be busy tonight and might not be able to attend to your situation. Besides, you look like a poor Chinese child. Tomorrow we'll take you to the police station to see if we can contact any of your relatives."
In response, Bai Luo displayed a sweet smile typical of a child.
The little girl was also delighted; she extended one hand and said with a grin, "Elena, Elena Landon."
This was not a character from any Marvel Universe or other storyline that Bai Luo recognized; she seemed like an ordinary person.
Bai Luo couldn't help but chuckle—had he really become so tense lately that he could encounter major characters from the Marvel Universe wherever he went?
He followed the kind-hearted family back to their home, a typical American house. Elena's mother thoughtfully prepared a guest room for Bai Luo, while Elena chatted incessantly with him. Her biggest dream was to become a reporter for Planet Daily, and right now, the most pressing matter on her mind was undoubtedly the recent events in Kansas City. This was the fundamental reason she was so concerned about Bai Luo.
Elena even asked suspiciously, "I just heard on the TV that the one who defeated the bad guys was a kid with black hair, black eyes, and yellow skin. Are you that superhero?"
Bai Luo replied, "If I were really a superhero, I should be heading home in glory right now to enjoy some donuts after defeating the bad guys."
Elena believed him; in her world, eating donuts was as important as defeating villains and saving the world.
However, she still seemed a bit disappointed.
Bai Luo thought for a moment and pulled out a few pieces of Old White Rabbit Milk Candy from his pocket, offering them to her. "This is the best White Rabbit Candy from our Eastern culture."
Elena's eyes lit up slightly.
