Chapter Seventy: The Sword Formation
Bai Luo stepped out of Emil Blonsky's room and found the two warriors he had just sent away at the corner of the hallway. He nodded slightly.
He now held a dual identity: first, as a superhero; second, as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. These two roles were quite useful—like allowing him to meet Emil Blonsky alone.
Bai Luo walked past the two men.
The aftermath of the recent battle in New York City was still unfolding, with the military and security forces mobilized throughout the city in search of Hulk. S.H.I.E.L.D. had taken over General Ross's authority in this matter, fully responsible for the Hulk incident. Steve Rogers had even gone into action, leading from the front lines. Aside from their brief introduction that morning, he and Bai Luo had not crossed paths again.
As for Bai Luo… he was clearly slacking off.
Bai Luo knew where Hulk had gone in the original movie plot, but with the significant changes that occurred that morning, the storyline had evidently shifted as well. Banner hadn't even taken his girlfriend with him, let alone followed the original plot. However, Bruce Banner was determined to rid himself of the mutations caused by Gamma Rays. It was certain that he would ultimately seek out Grayburn Academy to find Samuel Sterns, who had been analyzing his blood data and claimed to have developed a cure.
It was worth mentioning that during his long escape, Banner had been in remote contact with this doctor, providing blood samples in hopes that Sterns could help him find a solution to his mutation. Samuel, with his background in cell biology, had indeed assisted Hulk by storing numerous blood samples from Banner. It was through Samuel's research on Banner's blood that he created Emil Blonsky's transformation into Abomination.
However, the so-called cure he developed did not have the desired effect; it did not change the fact that Banner would transform into Hulk when angered.
Therefore, Bai Luo was not in a hurry. First of all, Hulk was not easy to kill. Moreover, both Reincarnators and S.H.I.E.L.D. were searching for Hulk in this city. The Ancient One, who had long since disappeared, was clearly tracking the Reincarnators. Whichever side found Hulk first would inevitably cause chaos throughout the city once again, just like that morning. Even if the Reincarnators claimed they were absolutely certain they could kill Hulk, The Ancient One would not allow them to succeed.
Bai Luo stepped outside with the intention of checking on Lorna. She had been placed under house arrest by S.H.I.E.L.D. after the morning battle and was likely feeling quite frustrated.
Lorna was confined in a dark room with two special forces soldiers guarding the door. Of course, these warriors served only a symbolic purpose; although Lorna remained herself, her circumstances had changed significantly. In most situations, she was quite mild-mannered and did not resist or oppose her current predicament—likely because she understood why she was being held there.
When Bai Luo entered, poor Polaris Sister was playing with a spoon—twisting it into a spiral shape and then unraveling it. Upon hearing the door open, she looked up and immediately waved her hand. A flash of dark green light flickered in the dimly lit room as her spoon shot toward Bai Luo like a beam of light.
In response, Bai Luo simply extended his hand and caught the distorted spoon effortlessly. Yet it still trembled in his palm under Lorna's control.
Bai Luo said, "Do you believe I could have Nick throw you into some mutant prison with a collar for life?"
Lorna clearly preferred gentle persuasion over harsh threats; upon hearing this, her eyes widened in anger as she prepared to explode.
But Bai Luo continued calmly, "Don't worry; I wouldn't do that. After all, you're my fiancée. It wouldn't be right for me to send you to prison myself—besides, if I did that, Eric would probably be the first one to come looking for trouble."
Lorna glared at him.
Bai Luo thought for a moment and said, "You want to join the fight, right?"
"Yes," Lorna replied.
"I have a plan," Bai Luo stated.
Lorna frowned slightly and asked, "What bad idea do you have this time?"
"Come on, I'm a superhero, right? I'm also an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., so I’m definitely a good guy," Bai Luo said.
Lorna scoffed, "You don't look like a good person to me."
Bai Luo shrugged it off and smiled. "I want to form an alliance."
"An alliance?" Lorna echoed.
"Recently, Nick Fury and I discussed this idea. He wants to gather a group of powerful individuals to form a coalition," Bai Luo explained. "I had the same thought."
"I don't want to hang out with someone like you," Lorna said.
Bai Luo couldn't help but touch his nose and replied, "It's not just me. You’ll also see Captain America and that Green Behemoth; I want to bring them in too."
Lorna raised an eyebrow skeptically. "But you’re not even familiar with them, are you?"
"It doesn't matter if I'm familiar or not. For them, as long as it's approved by the government and the goal is to save the world... they have no reason not to join. If it were Tony Stark, it might be more complicated," Bai Luo explained.
"You..."
"Nick plans to call this organization the Avengers..." Bai Luo mused while stroking his chin. "But I think that name is a bit lame. What do you think about White Alliance?"
Lorna retorted, "You might as well just call it White Alliance."
Bai Luo chuckled and was about to say something when a voice came from outside: "Mr. Bai, Nick Fury just sent word that Hulk and other target individuals have appeared near Broadway in New York City. He hopes you can head over there immediately."
Bai Luo stood up and glanced at Lorna, saying, "You still have time to think it over, or you can wait until I really bring Hulk and Steve into the fold before making your choice."
Lorna also stood up, watching Bai Luo walk out the door with a complex expression in her eyes.
Once Bai Luo left Lorna's dark room, he realized that the Reincarnator was planning to strike hard this time.
Even from Bai Luo's current position, he could see the drastic changes in the direction of New York City.
The entire sky towards New York had changed color; deep purple lightning snakes twisted and coiled in the air, while the atmosphere took on a terrifying dark yellow hue. Columns of light continuously shot up from New York City, merging into the clouds above.
Such a display of power was likely aimed at Hulk.
The Reincarnator probably sensed the resistance this time and intended to kill Hulk in one fell swoop to complete the mission—a decapitation strike. After finishing the task, they would use the power of the Main God to escape this world!
