Chapter Eighty-Three: I Take Captain America into the Abyss
In the heart of the Pit Old Forest stood a hospital, its exterior long since weathered and worn. The walls were covered in blood-red ivy, which, under the layers of moonlight filtering through the trees, resembled blood splattered across the surface.
The windows of the hospital were caked with grime, thoroughly obscured by a thick layer of what looked like excrement, completely covering the glass.
Captain America wanted to observe from outside, but Bai Luo waved his hand dismissively and said, "What are you scouting for? Just charge in."
Bai Luo understood that at this point, they could no longer follow the rules of the Marvel Comics universe. In horror movies, if one window was covered, it meant all the windows in that building were likely sealed off—there was no way to see inside from any angle or position.
Moreover, in such an environment, daring to circle around this obviously haunted hospital might lead to encountering something bizarre and terrifying.
Thus, Bai Luo simply led Steve forward.
His tone and demeanor clearly conveyed a message to Captain America—go ahead and enter; there was absolutely nothing to worry about.
Although Captain America hesitated for a moment, perhaps recalling the words of that Bald Boss earlier, he ultimately decided against further reconnaissance. Sticking to his principle of never abandoning a teammate, he gritted his teeth and followed Bai Luo inside.
The hospital's main door was tightly shut but not locked.
Bai Luo took a deep breath. To guard against any potential ambush upon entry, he pulled out a frying pan from his Item Storage Talisman.
Indeed, it was the Frying Pan.
Captain America, standing nearby, was stunned as he watched a Frying Pan materialize out of thin air in Bai Luo's hands. After a moment of contemplation, he silently removed his shield from his back and took up a defensive stance behind Bai Luo.
With that, Bai Luo pushed open the hospital's large doors.
The double doors creaked ominously, producing a chilling "squeak" as they slowly swung open, revealing the dark depths of the hospital interior.
Before Bai Luo could do anything, Captain America pulled out a flashlight and switched it on, instantly illuminating a wide area in front of them.
Inside the hospital was much like outside—an abandoned scene of decay. Weeds had sprouted through the cracks in the floor tiles, and the air was thick with the stench of decay.
However... there was no one around.
No ambushes, no ghosts.
Bai Luo paused for a moment and called out from the doorway, "Is anyone there?"
His voice echoed through the dim corridor, and suddenly there was a loud clatter from the darkness as something fell to the ground.
Captain America jumped in surprise.
Bai Luo chuckled, "See... I think I just scared something."
He stepped forward into the building, and Captain America, fearless as ever, followed closely behind Bai Luo. Although he had encountered many extraordinary things beyond the imagination of ordinary people, he had no idea what Silent Ridge was, so he stayed right behind Bai Luo.
Bai Luo could guess that Captain America probably imagined Silent Ridge to be some kind of terrorist organization's stronghold.
Just as they fully entered the hospital, the heavy doors behind them suddenly swung shut with a loud bang, as if moved by an unseen force.
Bai Luo and Captain America turned around immediately to check, but at that moment, there was no sign of a door behind them—what should have been there had transformed into a solid wall, impenetrable and unyielding.
At that moment, Bai Luo suddenly looked up and noticed a cloud of ash drifting down from above.
In fact, at that instant, the dark corridor in front of them seemed to "light up," but this light was not bright; it was the dimness of twilight shrouded by thick clouds, barely improving visibility. Combined with the countless ashes falling from who knows where, it created an indescribable sense of oppression.
Captain America frowned at the sudden change before him and looked at Bai Luo, saying, "What is this…?"
Throughout their journey, Bai Luo's performance had already left an impression on Captain America—this Eastern superhero seemed quite adept at handling such situations.
Was Bai Luo capable?
He stared at the wall that should have been a door, rubbed his chin thoughtfully for a while, and murmured, "According to the usual pattern, this kind of situation is meant to heighten the atmosphere of terror and force helpless individuals to move forward step by step into deeper darkness and despair, experiencing the so-called ultimate horror—but… this only works on ordinary people. For us… let’s blow it open and see."
With that said, Bai Luo raised his hand and directly summoned a Palm Thunder Talisman, throwing it at the wall.
The power of the Palm Thunder Talisman was considerable; in an instant, accompanied by a deafening explosion and stunning electrical effects, the filthy wall was instantly shattered to reveal what lay beyond.
Captain America blocked a barrage of flying debris with his shield and took a glance.
The wall had collapsed, revealing not the expected trees outside the hospital, but a corridor identical to the one where Bai Luo and the others currently stood.
In this corridor, also filled with pale gray ash, stood a towering figure at the spot where Captain America and Bai Luo were positioned.
The man was likely around two and a half meters tall. Bai Luo had to slightly tilt his head back to see his entire face clearly. He wore dark knee-high leather boots and was wrapped in a filthy apron. His clothes, along with the apron, were so dirty that their colors were unrecognizable, stained with some sort of blackish-red grime. The man’s face was obscured by an iron helmet that only left his lower face and a set of yellowed teeth visible. Notably, he held a massive butcher's knife in his right hand, nearly one and a half meters long—long enough to be used as a weapon by an ordinary person, but it seemed just right in his grip.
Finally encountering a living person, Captain America spoke directly, “You... are you a member of this organization?”
Captain America truly seemed to think this place was some kind of terrorist organization's base.
At that moment, Bai Luo wasn’t paying much attention to Steve. To be honest, he had never played the Silent Ridge game; he had only seen the first movie. He really didn’t know what this butcher-like figure was all about, but that didn’t hinder Bai Luo’s “deduction.” Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, he mused, “Given this guy's appearance, based on Resident Evil logic, he’s probably a B.O.W. But this isn’t a game; there’s no need to confront him directly. Instead...”
