Chapter 101: The Devious Loki
In a hotel in Old Bridge Town.
Late at night.
This was an ordinary single room. Earlier that day, the arrival of the Destroyer had devastated half the town, but many areas remained intact. Numerous civilians had evacuated, while some places were directly requisitioned by the government and S.H.I.E.L.D.
As a key member in the fight against the Destroyer, Bai Luo certainly managed to find a place to rest. As for Wolverine, after having a drink with Bai Luo that evening, he left to search for his Qin Grey.
In this era, Laser Eye had died young, which provided Logan and Qin considerable "development space." Despite this, their relationship remained ambiguous. One thing was certain: they loved each other.
Bai Luo, however, did not seem so optimistic.
When Qin Grey returned, she might not be the Phoenix Logan once knew but rather the evil-level mutant known as Black Phoenix.
Her return could bring more pain.
Of course, until Grey herself appeared, Bai Luo had no way to act on his thoughts.
Moreover, he was currently keeping a certain Thunder God locked up.
After sitting in his room for a while and confirming that no one was looking for him, Bai Luo stood up and decided to find a door leading to Alyssa's territory.
In Silent Ridge that day, Alyssa had indirectly taken advantage of Bai Luo. However, Bai Luo did not hold a grudge; after all, she hadn’t truly harmed him. What attracted his sister was Silent Ridge itself. While Alyssa was part of the management there, it didn’t mean she was Silent Ridge. Bai Luo could distinguish this clearly. Furthermore, he wasn’t petty enough to quarrel with a girl over trivial matters. Lastly, Bai Luo had realized that if he allied with Alyssa, the benefits she could provide him would far outweigh what he could offer her.
For Bai Luo, this place, shrouded in mystery and difficult to find, was an absolute haven. He was neither a Reincarnator nor the kind of traveler who deliberately crossed between reality and this realm; his ticket was one-way. Therefore, having a base of operations that belonged to him was, in a sense, indispensable.
However, at that moment, before Bai Luo could even open the door to his room, he heard a light sound.
Turning around, Bai Luo saw an unexpected guest in his room.
The person was dressed in green clothing that clashed with the modern attire of Earth, sitting at the only table in the room and flashing a charming smile at Bai Luo.
Who else could it be but Loki?
Bai Luo's eyes narrowed dangerously.
Loki seemed to have adjusted his mindset. Upon seeing Bai Luo, he smiled first and said, "I apologize for intruding—you're quite busy; there are people all around."
Bai Luo chuckled and replied, "Did you bring what I asked for? Or are you planning to... offer yourself?"
He casually glanced at the single bed not far away and added, "That seems a bit disgusting."
Loki's smile faltered slightly.
After a moment of thought, he said, "As far as I know, you are a superhero on Earth... My brother Thor is also considered a god of justice. Why would you target him?"
Bai Luo responded, "He entered the country illegally. I apprehended him and confiscated the items he was carrying. You need to pay a fine to take him away... Is there something wrong with that?"
Loki's expression stiffened. He thought to himself, when did entering Earth become subject to laws about illegal entry?
Bai Luo decided not to go looking for Dark Alessa and Thor. Instead, he turned around, pulled a chair over, and sat down across from Loki, smiling as he said, "I'm quite reasonable. You're here to pay a fine, so I won't count it as illegal entry. But the question is... did you bring what you promised?"
Loki felt like he was conversing with a schemer. He couldn't help but feel the urge to strike, but after considering the potential power disparity between him and the man before him, he realized that a fight might not guarantee victory unless he could catch his opponent off guard and take control of his mind. So...
Loki replied, "No."
Upon hearing this, Bai Luo's friendly demeanor shifted to one of seriousness in an instant. He flipped his hand and pulled out a dark frying pan, slamming it onto the table without hesitation. "Looks like I might have to keep one more person here."
Loki observed the arrogant expression on Bai Luo's face but didn't get angry. Instead, he said, "I didn't bring it here; I brought it to Earth—after all, I came alone and had to worry about you going back on your word."
Bai Luo stared at him for a moment before asking, "Did you bring the Life Stone Tablet and the Ancient Winter Coffin?"
Loki nodded, smirking mischievously as he replied, "No one cares more about my brother's well-being than I do."
Bai Luo asked, "Where are they?"
Loki answered, "Not far from this town. I personally secured them; no one else can find them except me—however, I need to see my brother first."
Bai Luo countered, "I need to see the items first."
The two exchanged glances after those statements, silently confronting each other for a while until Loki sighed and said, "Alright, for my brother's sake, I'll take you to see my things first. But don't think you can take both me and the goods... If you make any sudden moves, Asgard will teleport me back in an instant."
Bai Luo reassured him, "Don't worry; if you keep your word, I'll keep mine."
They exchanged another glance and broke into smiles.
Bai Luo was thinking to himself that Loki definitely had another plan.
This guy neither insisted on seeing Thor first nor bargained; he was being unusually straightforward, which was definitely a red flag.
Bai Luo let out a cold laugh in his mind and said to Mizumura Memeko, "Call Coulson and report my situation."
After that, Bai Luo put on an expression of "I am completely unguarded" and followed Loki as they stood up and walked out of the inn located on the outskirts of Old Bridge Town.
He had indeed hidden the items beneath the yellow sands of Old Bridge Town, behind a mound of earth. As Loki led the way for Bai Luo, he slowed down a step and said, "Do you feel the chill? The Ancient Winter Coffin and Life Stone Tablet you wanted are right beneath that yellow sand, but first... you need to hand over my brother."
Loki reached out and pulled Bai Luo slightly. Bai Luo turned back and saw Loki's finger pressing against his forehead. In that instant, accompanied by Loki's cold smile, visions began to swirl in Bai Luo's mind, and a wave of hypnotic power rose from his heart, making him feel drowsy.
However... there were still two powerful beings within Bai Luo.
