Chapter 116: The First Test of the Reincarnators
With the establishment of cooperation, the atmosphere between the two parties instantly changed.
Nick Fury was the first to smile. There was something about his bald head paired with that iconic grin that exuded a powerful charm, as if he could easily join the group of Indians and Thai people for a sauna at any moment.
Bai Luo stood in the room, staring blankly at the scene before him.
Nick Fury was no fool. Although many portrayed this black director of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a mere background character, the reality was far from it. His decisive actions and plans in Captain America were not something just anyone could pull off.
Bai Luo believed that Nick had his own plans.
Standing beside Lorna, Bai Luo rubbed his chin as he observed the unfolding situation.
Lorna, on the other hand, appeared somewhat bewildered. Yet her inherent queenly aura made her impossible to ignore; she stood there radiating an undeniable presence.
Nick and Vikas then engaged in a friendly exchange, arranging for Vikas's subordinates to rest while they both smiled and walked further into the room. Bai Luo and Lorna, however, decided to do their own thing—after all, Bai Luo was an official employee of S.H.I.E.L.D., and over eighty percent of those in S.H.I.E.L.D. recognized him. He could take Lorna along without any issues.
Bai Luo was quite straightforward; seeing that his mission had concluded, he grabbed Lorna and pulled her away to avoid any unwanted conversations. Just as they were moving away…
Bai Luo heard a voice say, “Ms. Lorna, Mr. Bai?”
They turned to see Paitun, the tallest of the three Thai girls from the Reincarnator team, approaching them with a bright smile. It was clear that this Reincarnator intended to engage in some “routine public relations,” attempting to build rapport and gather information, perhaps even leading to a side quest.
The Thai girl stood before them with a cheerful demeanor and said, “I’ve actually heard your name long before, Lorna. Seeing you in person is even more stunning! And you must be Mr. Bai; you’re certainly a powerful mutant too, right?”
Lorna paused slightly, about to respond when Bai Luo quickly extended his hand with a broad smile and shook hers firmly. Then he opened his mouth decisively: “I bought a watch last year; it’s from a prestigious brand known for its high quality and is entirely handmade by the famous watchmaker Urawalanima Bubble…”
Once Bai Luo started speaking, he went on without pause, not giving either Paitun or Lorna a chance to interject.
He had no intention of letting Lorna say anything; if she tried to take over the conversation later, it would be too late. After all, what kind of people were the Reincarnators? They were like versatile agents from anti-Japanese dramas or flying female police officers from animated shows—any hint of doubt could raise their suspicions. Therefore, it was better for him to ramble on himself; after all, anything he said would be twisted by the System into a narrative about his and Lorna's love story and views on marriage. He might as well talk nonsense; at worst, these Reincarnators would think he was just a chatterbox and a bit eccentric.
And indeed, at first, Paitun wore a polite smile as if basking in spring sunshine. However, as she attempted to interject several times without success while facing someone who seemed ready to talk indefinitely, her smile gradually became stiff.
If Bai Luo could speak normally, he might have been able to extract some information from the other party. Unfortunately, through Mizumura Memeko's enthusiastic translation, Bai Luo painfully realized that he had already steered the conversation towards the topic of having several children with Lorna.
Thus, with the mindset of "if I can't speak normally, neither should you," Bai Luo continued to ramble on, completely ignoring the sweat-drenched expression on his interlocutor's face. He was determined to make sure this group of Thais would never dare to approach him and Lorna again.
However...
While Bai Luo was enjoying himself, Paitun felt awkward, and there was someone nearby who was decidedly displeased.
Lorna Dane.
This Polaris was certainly not known for her good temper. Pretending to be Bai Luo's fiancée was already a significant concession on her part, but Lorna soon realized that Bai Luo's content was becoming increasingly absurd.
At first, it was fine; Bai Luo spoke about his plans to propose to Lorna, and although she felt something was off, she couldn't pinpoint what it was. But soon enough, Bai Luo's chatter devolved into plans for having seven or eight children, aiming for one each year, and if they didn't have any black children, they would adopt one.
Lorna felt embarrassed.
Yet she could understand why Bai Luo was so eager to stop her and spout such nonsense.
So she endured for a while longer.
However, when our Polaris Sister noticed that this guy not only persisted but also grew more animated and confident by the moment, she finally exclaimed, "Bai Luo?!"
Lorna's question wasn't merely an inquiry; everything around her trembled in response.
Bai Luo remained calm, but Paitun's expression changed dramatically.
Seeing this reaction, Bai Luo decided to take a step back and obediently fell silent. He merely exchanged a wry smile with Paitun before taking Lorna by the hand and leaving.
Lorna was genuinely furious; even after they had walked quite a distance away, Paitun could still hear her dark voice trailing behind them.
As Lorna and Bai Luo—the "engaged couple"—disappeared from view, the smile on Paitun's face slowly faded away, gradually transforming into a disdainful sneer: "Fool."
Nick's negotiations with Vikas did not last long in a pleasant manner, not because one of them was rambling like Bai Luo, but because Loki had made his appearance.
He appeared in Berlin, dressed in extravagant clothing, resembling a deity descending from the heavens.
His demeanor was surprisingly calm, and the previously lost Cosmic Cube was boldly held in his hand!
However, this was indeed a scene that had occurred in the movies; his active appearance was clearly meant to be captured.
This time, the plot had undergone a tremendous change, yet he still showed up according to the script, even bringing the Cosmic Cube with him. This almost blatantly indicated to anyone familiar with the movie's storyline that it was an obvious trap.
A trap set by Reincarnators targeting other Reincarnators.
