Chapter 131: Who is Clark Kent?
After receiving two shots of adrenaline from Dark Alessa, Bai Luo felt as if he had been injected with a burst of energy. Of course, he had made a quick exit and didn't have any serious injuries to begin with.
Alyssa's concoction, while similar in effect to a stimulant, had no side effects and was a genuine "healing booster" remedy.
Thus, after downing two bottles of the medicine, Bai Luo bid farewell to Dark Alessa.
He specifically went out to find a vehicle to transport the unconscious Lorna and Banner to the nearest town. He first called Nick to inquire about the situation on their end.
The international call connected quickly, and a logistics officer from S.H.I.E.L.D. answered. Upon recognizing Bai Luo's voice, the officer sounded extremely excited: "Mr. Bai, you're alive?"
Bai Luo felt a bit awkward and rubbed his nose. He understood that in such chaotic circumstances, if someone went missing, the likelihood of them being crushed into a pulp was much higher than the chance of them being whisked away somewhere else.
Bai Luo didn't dwell on it and simply requested to speak with Nick.
Soon enough, Nick's voice came through the line. Compared to the previous staff member, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. sounded much more serious. He said in a low tone, "We traced this call back to Kansas. How did you end up there? Also, where are Lorna and Banner? Are they with you?"
Bai Luo chuckled lightly. "They are here; I can't guarantee anyone else, but I can at least help these two who are closest to me. Plus, I have my fiancée with me!"
Nick replied, "How did you manage to get from Japan all the way to America?"
Bai Luo responded, "Oh, that's just our Eastern metaphysics at work—things like cosmic teleportation or instant movement. Have you heard of it?"
Nick said, "What teleportation? Forget it; as long as you're all okay."
Bai Luo smiled and asked, "So what's going on over there?"
Nick briefly updated Bai Luo on their situation and concluded with, "Since you've disappeared from here, it's best if you don't show up for a while."
Bai Luo slightly furrowed his brow and said, "What do you mean..."
Nick replied in a low voice, "I hope you, Lorna, and Banner can disappear for a while."
Bai Luo pondered for a moment and smiled, "I understand. So... how do we stay in touch?"
Nick said, "One-way communication. Just wait for my instructions—don't worry, I can find you wherever you are in the United States."
Upon hearing this, Bai Luo immediately retorted, "That sounds a bit insincere. With so many people in Hydra, you haven't managed to catch any of them over the years?"
Nick: "..."
He felt awkward for a moment before saying, "In any case, just disappear for a while and wait for my call."
Bai Luo replied, "I need funding and overtime pay!"
Nick smirked slightly and said, "Alright, alright. You won't need my help hiding, will you?"
"I actually do."
Nick had meant it as a polite remark but was taken aback by Bai Luo's straightforwardness.
At that moment, Bai Luo could already imagine Nick's expression, but he still laughed and said, "Do you know someone named Clark Kent? Help me find out where he lives; I want to hide over there."
Nick became alert. "Clark Kent? I think I've heard that name before. Is there something wrong with him?"
Bai Luo responded, "Oh... it seems Lorna has woken up. Goodbye..."
With that, Bai Luo hung up the phone without intending to say anything further.
Nick furrowed his brow, lost in thought for a moment.
Clark Kent, that name... he felt as if he had heard it somewhere long ago or seen some information related to it.
But soon, he couldn't dwell on it any longer, as Coulson rushed over and said, "Director, Vikas wants to meet with you."
Nick stood up. No matter who Clark Kent was, it had nothing to do with the situation at hand; it was better to set that aside for now...
As Nick Fury stood up, he suddenly realized—Bai Luo had chosen this moment to bring up such a personal matter, clearly to avoid him probing into something deeper.
That guy...
Nick thought of Bai Luo, feeling a bit irritated.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world.
In a town in Kansas, Bai Luo was driving, humming a tune as he cruised through the endless cornfields of Kansas.
In the backseat of the car were two people: Lorna and Banner.
Banner seemed to have overdosed on sedatives; he hadn't woken up for quite some time. However, Bai Luo didn't need to worry about the Hulk's safety—if sleeping pills could take him down, then he wouldn't be the Hulk.
As for Lorna, Bai Luo had just noticed that this Polaris Sister had gone from being knocked out by him to sound asleep.
This left Bai Luo feeling somewhat annoyed.
He genuinely wanted to take this opportunity to find Clark Kent. Now that he was in Kansas, it seemed Nick Fury didn't immediately need him back in action; perhaps he could hang out with Mr. Superman and do something fun together.
But Bai Luo knew that Clark might not actually be in Kansas at the moment, and he still hadn't fully grasped his own powers or considered what to do with them—like saving the world.
Even at this moment, Clark's thoughts might be completely different from what they would be in the future; he might see this innate power as a burden of sorts.
At this point, Superman had not truly grown up yet.
The scenery of Kansas was indeed beautiful. Bai Luo hummed a tune while driving, having just left that town. The last news report he saw on the television in a shop was about the battle in the Japanese Water City, West Xidian River District.
The immense impact of Hatsune Miku was prominently featured in the news broadcast.
Perhaps even S.H.I.E.L.D. did not anticipate how rapidly the effects of this battle had spread across the globe. Of course, when they were deploying missiles, they had already prepared for the situation to be fully exposed. Therefore, the current circumstances might be even more chaotic than S.H.I.E.L.D. had imagined, but it should still be manageable for them.
Nick Fury did not keep Bai Luo waiting long; later that evening, Bai Luo received a direct call from Agent Phil Coulson.
S.H.I.E.L.D. could not locate Clark Kent in Kansas but had found the address of Superman's mother, Martha.
