"So young! He must be twenty-three by now, at most he has had two chances. People really can't be compared."
The courtyard buzzed with chatter, especially among those who were more capable in the College Entrance Examination. Someone mentioned the name Gu Nian, which made Gu feel that these scholars were quite interesting.
There were too many people, obscuring the view, but he could see the eaves and rooftops of the academy. They looked like ordinary wooden houses; although the roofs were thatched, they appeared quite similar. As Gu was observing, he suddenly felt someone approaching from behind. He instinctively extended his leg to trip the person and swiftly turned to capture them.
It seemed to be just an ordinary scholar. "What do you want?" Gu asked with some confusion.

Gu released his grip on the scholar's leg and looked at him. The scholar was dressed in plain white robes, his hair tied up, clearly an adult. He held a classic text in his left hand, and his leg was slightly red and swollen from being twisted earlier. He looked average and blended in well with the other scholars; it was hard to pick him out among them.
"Are you asking me something?" Gu smiled.
"I am Duan Siyu," the scholar replied. "Seeing that no one is accompanying you, I thought I would come over to chat with you and make a friend. It's nice to have someone to talk to and relieve boredom."
"He's called Gu Nian," he added. "A person from Qi State."
Gu paused for a moment, recalling that Duan Siyu was the one who wrote the Water Dragon Chant, the one inscribed on the blue stone tablets.
Carved in the blue stone, " Bu Fou " His words, how could they sound so harsh? Gu continued towards "Choking," overhearing their conversation. A scholar approached, eager to engage in a chat.
"Young Master Qing Le Fu, Wu Qing, it's a pleasure to meet you both. I wonder if Duan Brother has arrived."
The newcomer was tall and imposing. Although he wore the attire of a scholar, he exuded a military aura. Was he here for the Martial Examination? Perhaps "I don't deny" had mistaken Yuezi. Those nearby exchanged puzzled glances.

As for the collateral branches, his line was the last remaining offshoot and was not favored by the main family; best not to mention it.
Though Gu spoke casually, his face revealed a hint of melancholy. Wu Qing and Duan Siyu listened intently and observed closely, sensing that Gu Yi must have longed for recognition from his family but had no opportunity. Otherwise, why would he come to the College Entrance Examination? After all, what did students attending such an examination seek? Fame and fortune.
"Brother need not worry; just focus on standing out in the Final Exam and achieving success. Do you fear that your family won't recognize you?"
"May Brother's words come true," Gu Nian replied with a smile. "I also wish Brother great success in the examination."
