In the evening, after a busy day, the two finally found a moment of leisure.
Muen and Anyuan sat outside the cave, munching on wild fruits while gazing up at the starry sky.
"What is that area for?"
Anyuan pointed to a patch of land enclosed by wooden stakes and asked curiously.
"That's meant for raising some wild goats. The fence isn't finished yet, and I got delayed because I went hunting," Muen replied. "I fell head over heels for you, Anyuan, and ended up being away for months without returning home."
He felt deeply grateful to fate for blessing him with such a wonderful partner.
Anyuan looked back at Muen, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she said, "So this is your territory?"
Muen nodded with a smile.
"It's such a large space." Anyuan's eyes lit up as she enthusiastically suggested, "We could set aside a piece to grow some vegetables. What do you think?"
Her face was full of joy as she sought Muen's opinion.
Muen loved the word "we" that Anyuan used; it made his heart feel sweet as if filled with honey. He pointed to an empty area to the right of the cave and said, "This piece of land is also mine, and you can use it too."
Following Muen's gesture, Anyuan's smile widened even more. Then she furrowed her brow in thought and suddenly had an idea.
"We can turn this place into a small garden, planting all kinds of flowers, and then a big tree. We can cover the ground with small stones, put up a little gazebo in the middle, and build a swing set,"
Anyuan was already imagining the beautiful scene of their new home in his mind, as if he could see the vibrant flowers and the poetic landscape.
He turned to Muen, his eyes sparkling with lively light, resembling a charming woodland spirit. With a smile, he said, "On nice days, we can have picnics in the garden."
Muen gazed at his handsome features, feeling a stir in his heart. Although he didn't quite understand what a gazebo or swing set was, he grasped the essence of what Anyuan meant.
"Alright, I'll go along with your ideas."
Muen looked at the joyful person beside him with fondness; it seemed that all the day's troubles had been dispelled by that smile.
"Anan, we've been together for so long; shouldn't we..." Anyuan felt a sudden jolt in his mind at those words, leaving him momentarily speechless.
Not receiving a response, Muen's gaze deepened as he slightly furrowed his handsome brows, worry etched across his face as he looked at Anyuan.
Seeing Muen's pitiful expression made Anyuan's heart soften. He gently replied, "Can we wait a little longer? I'm not ready yet."
Muen suppressed his feelings and reluctance, lowering his head to ask, "How much longer do we have to wait?"
The bright light in Anyuan's eyes gradually dimmed as he fell into memories.
Before arriving here, his long-time boyfriend had cruelly married another woman, heartlessly abandoning him.
Anyuan gazed blankly at the starry sky, suddenly filled with tears that brimmed in her eyes. Her voice trembled slightly as she said, "I don't know either."
With a flutter of her eyelids, tears began to slide down her cheeks.
"I once had someone I loved very much."
Anyuan's words startled Muen, causing him to look up in shock. "But he doesn't want me anymore."
Though Anyuan spoke softly, the heavy sadness surged toward Muen like a tide, nearly overwhelming him. A sharp pain pierced his heart, making it hard for him to breathe. He couldn't help but ask, "Who is that person?"
How could someone as wonderful as his Anan be abandoned?
Anyuan's tears felt like they struck Muen's heart, causing him deep anguish.
"Then don't love him anymore; love me instead. I promise I'll treat you very well from now on." Anyuan's tears burst forth uncontrollably, flowing without end.
"Muen, thank you, but I'm not ready yet. Can you wait for me a little longer?"
Anyuan's heart ached uncontrollably.
Seeing her so heartbroken made Muen feel equally distressed. He didn't want to see Anyuan cry, so he hurriedly nuzzled her with his fluffy head, as if comforting his most precious treasure. In his heart, he silently thought: My treasure deserves no such harm from others.
