Zhang Yinlin casually pulled Yelai along as they headed to the principal's office on the third floor.
"Yelai, are you feeling unwell? Why did you come back so late? I thought you might not return at all, considering it's already been three days."
Due to Yelai's situation, she had learned quite a bit about the sacrifices made to Cthulhu. From what she understood, when offering sacrifices to Cthulhu in hopes of resurrecting someone, it usually took no more than a month for the person to come back. Never had there been a case like Yelai's, where it took so long. However, given that there were instances of prolonged waiting, Yelai's extended absence was within her realm of acceptance.
"I don't know either. When I woke up, it was already three days later."
Yelai chose not to mention the circumstances of being taken by Cthulhu, which involved complex dealings and negotiations with the entity. Speaking about it would likely invite disbelief or unwanted scrutiny.
"Enough about that. Yinlin, how did you end up as the kindergarten principal? I heard Zhenxue went to the Numbered Protection Zone. Why didn't you go with her?"
Given your Sequence, I thought following Zhenxue into the Numbered Protection Zone would be a piece of cake for you.
Zhang Yinlin didn't respond immediately. She first peeked out of the office window, looking as if she feared eavesdroppers on the other side of the wall.
"I was asked by Zhenxue to stay in the Safe Zone. The idea is that if you ever return, there would be someone here to protect you."
She lowered her voice, her demeanor shifting from that of a kind teacher to one of serious concern.
"Yelai, you've realized that your death three days ago was unusual, haven't you?"
"Of course. I thought about it when I woke up. I even planned to find out who killed me once I got back."
"Yinlin, Zhenxue sent you to protect me, yet you haven't gone to the Numbered Protection Zone yet. Have you not found out who harmed me, or have you discovered who it is but can't eliminate them?"
"You’re still as sharp as ever."
Zhang Yinlin felt no surprise at Yelai's insight; instead, she felt a twinge of regret. It was a pity that someone as intelligent as Yelai had become a 'useless key.' If she weren't a 'useless key,' even if she couldn't match Zhenxue’s prowess, she would still have made a significant impact.
With these thoughts swirling in her mind, Zhang Yinlin continued, "That's right. Zhenxue and I have indeed identified who harmed you. Although we lack concrete evidence, we are confident that it was them."
"Who is the Numbered Protection Zone?" Yelai asked, not hiding his curiosity. "It must be someone significant."
As he spoke, he took out the Sequence Coordinate Stone from his hand. Sure enough, it was just as he had guessed. No wonder Zhenxue had given him the Safe Zone and the Sequence Coordinate Stone. It was to prevent him from going to the Numbered Protection Zone, where danger lurked, and where others had met their demise.
The background of that place must be quite formidable. That was why he was directed to the Safe Zone, to avoid further harm. After all, the Numbered Protection Zone was a stronghold for those who caused harm to others. If he were to go there again, with the other party's ability to reach into the Safe Zone, it would be like a sheep entering a tiger's den.
But if Yelai stayed in the Safe Zone, it would be different. For one, it wouldn't be easy for them to reach him. Secondly, under Luo Zhenxue's influence, the Safe Zone was no longer as vulnerable as it once was; it wouldn't easily suffer an Anomalous Entity invasion again, especially with Zhang Yinlin's protection.
Zhenxue still cared for him so much. Yelai smiled broadly upon realizing the truth. His display of affection with Luo Zhenxue from afar earned him an eye roll from Zhang Yinlin.
Of course, how could you two not be affectionate? Even a small injury would require tender care.
"Thank goodness," Yelai chuckled before turning serious. "Sister Yinlin, who is it that harmed me?"
