"Here you go, sir. This is your ticket for the recent screening of 'Unknown Horror.' The show starts in just a few minutes, so you can line up now."
"Thank you."
Yelai took the movie ticket and glanced at the title. "The Last Day of Humanity's Apocalypse," it read. The name sounded quite intimidating. He walked towards the queue to wait for entry.
He heard that this film was produced by the Eighth Protectorate, specifically made to showcase the Unknown Horror genre, and they had invited a powerful Sequencer to direct it.
Since it was made by the Eighth Protectorate, it was definitely worth watching. After all, during the Era of the Sequence, not many people were interested in making films anymore; only those from the top ranks of the Safe Zone had the leisure to indulge in such endeavors.
"This movie is supposed to be really good. If you get scared later, you can just jump into my arms; I'll protect you."
"Ugh."
Listening to the chatter of people in line discussing the film, Yelai nodded in satisfaction.
"Hey, ladies, is this movie really as Unknown Horror as you say?" Yelai asked, tapping one of the three girls in front of him.
"Yeah!"
The three girls initially planned to respond briefly but were taken aback by Yelai's good looks, their eyes lighting up.
"Definitely! It's really Unknown Horror. I heard that many people had nightmares after watching it."
"Not just nightmares! I heard that during its release in other Safe Zones, someone actually died from fright while watching it."
"Exactly! I heard that too!"
"Is it really that Unknown Horror?" Yelai smiled wider upon hearing this. "I love Unknown Horror movies."
"You like Unknown Horror movies too?" One girl blinked at Yelai, thinking he was also a fan of horror films like her.
"I guess I do," Yelai replied after a moment's thought.
"I love them! I enjoy that tense and thrilling experience. Every time I watch one, I'm so nervous I start sweating—it's both terrifying and exhilarating!"
You’re both inexperienced and love to play, haha.
“Go away, go away.” The girl rolled her eyes at her two sisters and then turned to Yelai, asking, “What about you? Why do you like watching Unknown Horror films?”
As for me? I don’t really enjoy the thrill; I just like that kind of atmosphere.
“What atmosphere?”
The atmosphere of watching Unknown Horror films together, surrounded by people who are scared and terrified.
Five minutes passed quickly as Yelai chatted with them.
Soon after, Yelai and the girls entered the theater together.
“Wow, what a coincidence! You’re sitting in this row too!”
The three girls sat down and realized that Yelai was in the same row, right next to one of them.
Seeing this, Yelai smiled and said, “It’s fate.”
The three girls noticed how happy Yelai looked at that moment, which made the girl sitting next to him think that he had feelings for her; otherwise, why would he be smiling so widely?
In an instant, the girl beside him blushed, unable to stop imagining a romantic encounter with Yelai in the cinema—she even thought about names for their future children.
Yelai was oblivious to her thoughts.
He only knew that he was very lucky today.
Because he was sitting next to a timid girl. He heard from the other two girls that she was quite timid and usually didn’t dare to watch Unknown Horror films. The only reason she came this time was that she was dragged along by the other two.
Being timid, she would definitely be scared later on; the price would depend on her.
Yelai glanced at the girl beside him, a smile forming in his heart.
He hadn’t forgotten his purpose for being here.
He was here to pay a price.
Each Sequencer pays a different price, unique to each individual; specifically, it relates to the Anomalous Entity they connect with.
It all depended on what kind of price the Anomalous Entity would demand.
The Anomalous Entity would demand different prices based on the situation of the Sequencer. For the Anomalous Entity that established a connection with Yelai, the price it required was to absorb fear, such as terror and fright. Each time Yelai used Sequence Power, he had to feed on the fears of others as payment.
In the past, every time I had to pay this price, I struggled to find Anomalous Entities that could generate fear to absorb it from them. It was quite a hassle.
