"Ah! Zhong!"
A loud shout broke through Yelai's thoughts, and he focused his gaze ahead.
In the empty forest, a figure suddenly appeared. It was one of the three who had fled, now materializing as if pushed by an unseen force. The moment he appeared, he stumbled backward, his expression a mix of shock and anger.
In order to survive, Zhong Zhi had ruthlessly abandoned his teammates, instructing them to draw the fire away.
"Don't kill me, Yelai! I—"
"Go kill that person! After you finish, catch up with me!"
Yelai commanded as he pursued, not giving the other a chance to plead for mercy. As they brushed past each other, he issued an order to Gaze.
Receiving the command, Gaze halted its steps, turned around, and unleashed its Sequence Power, opening its jaws to bite at the man.
"Ah!!"
The scream shattered the tranquility of the forest, sending birds fluttering in panic and scattering from the trees.
After finishing off that person, Gaze was left with blood dripping from its mouth as it chewed on flesh. It twisted its neck to look in Yelai's direction as it began to instinctively retreat.
However, just as it prepared to lift its foot to flee, a wave of pain surged through its mind, recalling the lesson it had learned from Yelai. It shivered slightly before ultimately turning back towards Yelai, adhering to the disguise of obedience and following him.
Every creature has an instinct to avoid danger. Gaze was no exception.
At that moment, it understood that distancing itself from Yelai would not help it evade danger. Only by following Yelai's disguised command could it avoid being caught or struck by him.
Meanwhile, in his desperate flight, Zhong Zhi steeled himself and released his grip. In the incredulous gaze of the Vice Captain, he pushed him away forcefully.
The Vice Captain's eyes widened in disbelief. After years of loyalty, Zhong Zhi had abandoned him at the most critical moment.
"Zhong Zhi!!"
He roared in anger, wanting nothing more than to plunge a knife into Zhong Zhi, but time was not on his side. A dangerous aura loomed behind him, causing him to instinctively turn around.
Unbeknownst to him, Yelai was standing there. He wanted to barter for his life with information about Zhong Zhi, but Yelai had no intention of letting him speak. With a swift motion, Yelai grabbed his throat and squeezed tightly.
Crack.
The grip of Rank was beyond anything he could withstand. With a look of unwillingness in his eyes, his neck was snapped, and he died.
At the same time, Zhong Zhi glanced back, feeling a sense of relief that Yelai had not pursued him. Abandoning the Vice Captain had been the right choice; it at least bought him some time to escape.
"Don't blame me; I had no choice," he muttered as he ran.
Just as he was about to pull his gaze away, he caught a glimpse of Yelai charging after him once more. Behind him, Yelai's fingers were poised together, swinging up and down as he sprinted with incredible speed, his hair blowing back from the force of the wind.
This scene—Yelai's superhuman speed combined with his smile—was enough to terrify Zhong Zhi to the core.
"Enough is enough."
Sensing the overwhelming scent of fear, Yelai closed in on Zhong Zhi. With two teammates dead, he could smell even more fear in the air. There was no need to play cat and mouse anymore; Zhang Yinlin and the others were waiting. It was time to finish this.
In no time, he effortlessly caught up with Zhong Zhi. Although he couldn't see Zhong Zhi's exact location, he easily deduced it from the scent of fear. With a swift motion, he struck down towards that position, landing a blow squarely on Zhong Zhi's back.
Under the force of the Unknown Horror, Zhong Zhi let out a gasp and coughed up a mouthful of blood, along with several Eyeballs that spilled out.
