As soon as the Sequence Key appeared, Xu Limin immediately moved closer.
Looking at the Sequence Key hovering in Yelai's palm, Xu Limin took out a pair of glasses from his chest pocket and put them on to examine it closely. The bodyguards on either side also stepped forward a few paces to take a closer look.
During this time, with Yelai's consent, Xu Limin picked up Yelai's Sequence Key and began to play with it, inspecting it back and forth. The Sequence Key was pure white. He searched it thoroughly, but aside from the white color, he couldn't find a hint of red.
Yelai remained calm throughout the process. No one understood his Sequence Key better than he did; he was confident that unless he chose to reveal it, no one could see the extraordinary nature of the Sequence Key.
Five minutes later, Xu Limin returned the Sequence Key to Yelai.
With a soft sound, Yelai took back the Sequence Key, holding it tightly against his chest. Accompanied by a burst of light, the pure white Sequence Key vanished.
In his mind, as Yelai focused his thoughts, the pure white Sequence Key transformed like ink dropped into water, gradually turning black until it became the Black Key.
"Professor Xu, have we completed our transaction now?" Yelai asked proactively.
The two bodyguards twitched their lips, eager to find a reason to halt the transaction and reluctant to part with the Silver Pocket Watch. However, despite racking their brains, they couldn't find any grounds; Yelai was indeed fulfilling the transaction and showed no signs of deceit.
Xu Limin did not respond immediately. He pondered while holding the glasses frame with his thumb and index finger.
Before long, he hesitated to speak.
"Ye Lai, can you tell us exactly where you established contact with the Entity?"
"Sure."
As expected, Ye Lai did not hold back and described the location outside Cthulhu Town.
At that moment, Xu Limin and the others were astonished.
"You established contact with the Entity outside Cthulhu Town!" Bodyguard Zheng exclaimed.
"Yes."
"So it was outside Cthulhu Town," Xu Limin murmured as he took out a tablet from Bodyguard Zheng's briefcase and quickly searched for information. When he looked back at Ye Lai, his expression changed to one of shock.
The two bodyguards exchanged puzzled glances.
Instinctively, they turned to look at the tablet's screen, and in the next second, they understood the situation, their faces reflecting their surprise.
The location described by Ye Lai did not match any of the recorded explorations outside Cthulhu Town.
There was only one possible explanation: the place Ye Lai described exceeded the limits of what had been explored outside Cthulhu Town so far.
"Are you sure you didn't misdescribe it?" Bodyguard Zheng couldn't help but ask.
Though he knew he shouldn't interrupt, his curiosity was overwhelming.
"I'm certain I didn't misdescribe it," Ye Lai replied, looking at Bodyguard Zheng. "I believe no Sequence would forget such an event—the moment of establishing contact with the Entity."
Bodyguard Zheng paused for a moment upon hearing this but eventually nodded in agreement.
Becoming a Sequence is undoubtedly a turning point in one's destiny, much like when a student receives their exam scores or successfully passes a civil service exam. Such pivotal moments are not easily forgotten by those who experience them.
Just as Bodyguard Zheng was about to say something, Ye Lai interjected, "Can I ask what Entity you are connected with?"
Xu Limin hesitated, wanting to speak but ultimately chose to ask the question anyway.
Ye Lai frowned in response. "Professor Xu, the question you're asking involves my personal privacy and safety, so I'm afraid I can't answer."
It's important to understand that wherever there are people, there will be disputes, and the world of Sequences is no exception. Revealing one's own Sequence can easily place them in danger. Even though a Sequence's abilities can allow someone to discern another's Sequence through their Sequence Feature, this is only possible if the other party is knowledgeable enough.
For this reason, there exists an unwritten rule among Sequences: unless it is someone they trust, a Sequence will choose not to disclose their own identity. Revealing such information can easily lead to a passive situation, especially when facing enemies.
Xu Limin appeared awkward. He understood this principle but had asked out of curiosity, hoping that perhaps Ye Lai would provide an answer. Unfortunately, his hopes did not materialize as he had wished.
