In other locations, the situation was grim. The tall man furrowed his brow upon hearing the news. One member of the Sixth Team had been lost, and two from the Thirteenth Squad were either dead or injured. The number of Acupoints at Signal Point was increasing, prompting a request for more personnel.
The Contact Person was sweating profusely as he quickly relayed the gathered intelligence.
At that moment, the tall man's frown deepened to the point where it seemed he could crush a fly with it. Without hesitation, he grabbed the Sequence Combat Uniform jacket draped over the back of a chair and put it on.
"Ena," he said, addressing the Sequencer he had just called for assistance, "which Safe Zone are you all from?"
The Commander and the two others hailed from different Safe Zones—one from one Safe Zone, another from another Safe Zone, and yet another from yet another Safe Zone.
A few Safe Zones? That was too weak.
Listening to Ena's introduction only added to his headache. In this era, everyone understood a common truth: the stronger the Safe Zone, the more powerful its Sequencers; conversely, the weaker the Safe Zone, the weaker its Sequencers. After all, powerful Sequencers would seek opportunities in more advanced Safe Zones; no one would willingly remain in a smaller one.
Upon learning about these few Safe Zones, he instinctively accepted this conclusion.
"Well, having some help is better than none," he decided. "Send those who were called for assistance to Signal Point to help alleviate the pressure there as soon as possible. Once they stabilize things at Signal Point, let them send personnel to support Signal Point."
He continued, "Also, notify Signal Point and its Squad to free up as many personnel as possible to assist Signal Point. Inform them that I will arrive within an hour and that they need to hold on."
The tall man swiftly issued deployment orders. As the Commander of the Numbered Protection Zone, he should have been stationed at command; however, with the situation rapidly deteriorating, he could no longer afford to stay behind and had to take action himself.
"Ena, you are now in full command of deploying defenses against the Anomalous Entity invasion."
After saying this, without waiting for Ena's response, he strode out of the temporary command center with determination, his feet propelling him forward like an arrow released from a bow.
Ena and everyone present wore expressions of deep concern, their hearts heavy with dread. They understood all too well what it meant for the Commander to take action. As the highest combat power of the Numbered Protection Zone, if even he had to intervene, it was clear that the situation had reached a life-or-death crisis.
On the other side, the sound of wheels grinding against the soil echoed as an armored vehicle made its way toward the Safe Zone Defense Point. Upon receiving deployment orders, the driver immediately turned the vehicle around.
"Esteemed Sequencers, this is our map of the Safe Zone. We will head to the Signal Point marked on the map for defense," said the Contact Person inside the vehicle, detailing the situation at the Signal Point.
"So many dead?" The Sequencers inside stirred restlessly.
"My God, what terrible luck! How did I end up in this mess? The numbers truly are ominous—devilish numbers."
"What scale are we dealing with? Haven't we just begun our defense? How could we have already lost a Squad?"
"Are your local Anomalous Entities really that fierce? Or is it damage caused by other Anomalous Entities?"
"If I remember correctly, the characteristic Anomalous Entity of the Numbered Protection Zone is Acupoint, right? That’s quite troublesome; my Sequence is vulnerable to that Anomalous Entity."
The expressions of the other four Sequencers were no better. As Sequencers, they understood that such rapid casualties indicated that this particular Anomalous Entity invasion was far from just beginning.
In past experiences, humanity had developed a set of standards to measure the scale of Anomalous Entity invasions. If the number of invading Anomalous Entities was less than a certain threshold, it was classified as a small-scale invasion. If it reached a specific number, it was considered a medium-scale invasion. However, if it exceeded that number, it was deemed a large-scale invasion—one that posed a significant threat to the Safe Zone and could even lead to its annihilation.
