As far as the eye could see, there were low houses scattered around. A few middle-aged women stood at the entrance of the village, chatting and laughing among themselves.
Lu Xiaoran approached them to inquire about the location of Dragon Ridge Mountain.
"Just follow this road through our village and exit from the southern end; that's where Dragon Ridge Mountain is," one woman in her forties said, pointing the way.
At that moment, the other women gathered around, teasingly asking, "Young man, you’re not the one who’s taken over that mountain, are you? We've been hearing rumors about it in the village for the past few days."
Lu Xiaoran smiled noncommittally and continued south along the dirt road that ran through the village.
On either side of this dirt road were rows of houses haphazardly arranged. A glance revealed a line of red brick walls, with occasional sounds of chickens clucking and dogs barking coming from within.
As he walked further south, a vast expanse of farmland came into view. It was March, the perfect season for planting, and several machines were busy moving back and forth in the fields, preparing to sow seeds.
As Lu Xiaoran walked, he noticed that this village was situated in a very low-lying area. After heavy rainfall, such lowlands would accumulate a lot of toxic gases, which could pose a threat to anyone living here.
However, Lu Xiaoran paid no mind to such matters. Having lived through many lives, he understood well that one must look out for oneself above all else. The lives or deaths of these villagers had nothing to do with him; he had no obligation to intervene.
Continuing south along the dirt road, he reached the edge of the village and spotted a mountain marking its boundary. This must be Dragon Ridge Mountain.
He took out his phone to check the map for confirmation. After ensuring he was at the right location, Lu Xiaoran followed a small path leading up the mountain.
The slope wasn’t too steep, and there wasn’t much vegetation on it; it looked bare and desolate.
After about ten minutes, Lu Xiaoran easily reached the summit. From this vantage point, he could see the entire layout of the village below.
At the top of the mountain was a large flat area where Lu Xiaoran decided to replicate his safe house. Choosing the flattest spot available, he cleared away small stones from the ground and closed his eyes, envisioning what his safe house looked like.
In an instant, the safe house materialized before him out of thin air.
Lu Xiaoran was careful during this process; when replicating his safe house, he made sure to position it so that it surrounded him completely.
With the safe house replicated, he could now appear inside it. This would allow him to conveniently change the iris recognition of the safe house, preventing a situation where he would be left staring at the door, unable to enter.
Lu Xiaoran looked around; he was now inside that very safe house. Methodically, he located the device on the wall used for modifying the iris recognition. Following the method that Kebotong had taught him, Lu Xiaoran operated the device and successfully changed the iris recognition to his own information.
Once that was done, Lu Xiaoran opened both the inner and outer doors of the safe house and stepped out.
This place could withstand explosives, but it might not be able to resist missiles. Moreover, if this mountain were to collapse, staying in the safe house might not guarantee safety either.
As he gazed at the building before him, resembling a steel fortress, Lu Xiaoran fell into deep thought. Although the likelihood was low, if there was a way to avoid danger, it was best to take precautions.
