Seeing these people arrive, Zhao DabaO felt a bit anxious. He hurriedly called out to the tent behind him, and three more men emerged. These men were all from the Zhao Family and were relatives of Zhao DabaO. Upon hearing that the Liu Family was coming to seize their grain, they were unwilling to back down and prepared to confront the Liu Family head-on.
They all held vegetables and wooden sticks, and counting Zhao Lizhu and Zhao DabaO, they had one more person than the Liu Family. If a fight broke out, the Liu Family would not have any advantage.
Just as the two groups stood there in a standoff, hesitating over whether to make a move, Wang Fugui hurriedly arrived at the scene.
"Everyone, calm down. Don't act impulsively," he urged.
Upon seeing Wang Fugui approach, Zhao DabaO turned to him as if he were a savior. "Wang Ren, please help us settle this. Last time my son took one of their watermelons, I already compensated them for it; you know about that. Now they still won't let it go and want us to pay them with grain."
Wang Fugui nodded after listening and turned to face the four men from the Liu Family. "Yes, Xiao Zhao's matter is something I remember. Didn't you say before that once we settled the money, this issue would be over?"
The four men from the Liu Family still held onto their weapons. The tallest among them spoke first, his expression serious as he addressed Wang Fugui. "Wang Ren, we are also at our wit's end. Our food supply is completely gone now. If we don't come to ask for it back, are we just supposed to sit here and wait to starve?"
Wang Fugui understood that asking Zhao Family for compensation for the stolen watermelon was merely an excuse for the Liu Family. Their core demand was still to obtain food; if that wasn't resolved, they likely wouldn't back down easily.
"Lao Liu, everyone's food supply is running low now; I hope you can understand," Wang Fugui paused before continuing to the man. "If food is gone, we can think of ways together. For instance, we could look for wild fruits or vegetables in these mountains; there should be something edible so we won't starve."
The man found Wang Fugui's suggestion reasonable. Moreover, with one more person on the Zhao Family's side, they might not necessarily win if a fight broke out.
So he lowered his weapon and slowly replied, "If we can really find something to eat in the mountains, then there's no need for us to resort to this."
Seeing him relent, the other three men from the Liu Family also put away their weapons. They followed Wang Fugui as they left the Zhao Family's tent.
Watching the four men from the Liu Family gradually walk away, Lin Tao patted Zhao Lizhu on the shoulder softly. "Let's go back now, Zhuzi."
Earlier, Wang Fugui had been able to arrive in time because Lin Tao had run over to fetch him upon seeing those men ready for a fight.
He knew that if they couldn't get food, these people might really resort to violence. At that point, even if the Zhao Family's members could defeat them, they certainly wouldn't be able to escape unscathed; they would either die or be severely injured.
Thus, Lin Tao took advantage of the chaos to sneak away and brought Wang Fugui over. He understood that in this situation, the only one who could separate these two groups was Wang Fugui.
Sure enough, Wang Fugui's authority as a leader still held weight. After he arrived, the Liu Family members were indeed swayed by his words and obediently followed him away.
