Lu Xiaoran followed the crowd to his room, 302. He had just interacted with Li Zhiqiang, and now his Electric Shock Ability should have been copied.
Sitting on the edge of his bed, Lu Xiaoran began to channel the energy within him as he had done in previous attempts. He focused his mind on the two fingers of his right hand. Soon, several blue arcs of electricity appeared between them, crackling and sparking with sound.
As he continued to control this energy, the arcs flickered in intensity. It seemed that, just as Li Zhiqiang had said, the strength of the electricity could indeed be controlled by his will.
Just as Lu Xiaoran was observing the arcs in his hand, a sudden urgent knocking came from outside his door. Startled, he quickly retracted the arcs and stood up from his bed, walking slowly to the door.
When he opened it, he found Zhang Kai, the leader of Fog Mountain Sanctuary, standing there.
"You must be Lu Xiaoran," Zhang Kai said. "Your partner is dead, so I've found you a new one. Come meet him."
Zhang Kai remembered that Lu Xiaoran only possessed an Ability granting him Immunity to Poison Gas. He considered this Ability rather useless for solo missions. Therefore, upon learning of Li Zhiqiang's death, he sought another Ability user to team up with Lu Xiaoran.
Following Zhang Kai, Lu Xiaoran arrived at the adjacent room 301. After a few knocks, a young woman opened the door. Her hair was dyed blonde, and a rose tattoo adorned her arm; she looked like a rebellious spirit from the streets.
Zhang Kai stepped forward and addressed her. "Li Hongmei, this is the person I mentioned earlier—your new teammate. You two should get to know each other."
Li Hongmei nodded at him, and Zhang Kai waved his hand dismissively. "I have some matters to attend to; you two can chat."
With that, he turned and walked down the stairs without looking back.
Li Hongmei crossed her arms and asked Lu Xiaoran, "What’s your Ability? We’ll be working together tomorrow, so we need to understand each other's abilities to coordinate effectively."
Lu Xiaoran scratched his head, putting on an awkward expression as he smiled at her. "My ability is Immunity to Poison Gas, which protects me from bodily harm. Other than that, I don't have much else."
Li Hongmei's eyes widened in confusion as she replied, "Is that it? What good is this ability? It seems no different from an ordinary person."
Lu Xiaoran didn't argue with her and continued to smile, shrugging his shoulders.
Li Hongmei placed her right hand on her forehead, displaying a look of exasperation. In her heart, she silently wondered why she had been grouped with someone so useless. She couldn't understand what Zhang Kai was thinking.
Shaking her head to herself, Li Hongmei raised her left arm, spreading her palm open with fingers extended flat. In an instant, a flame erupted from her hand.
"This is my ability," she said. "Well, now that we both know each other's abilities, there's not much else to discuss. Let's meet again tomorrow morning."
With that, Li Hongmei closed her door and walked into her room.
