The Old Vine was once an utterly ordinary Wisteria Tree, with no potential for transformation. In its youth, it encountered a stroke of fate when it was struck by an unknown Spirit Energy Group. From that moment on, it embarked on a tumultuous—no, to be precise, an exceedingly dull and lengthy life.
It seemed that the energy itself was quite frustrated, lamenting its bad luck for hitting such a talentless vine! Despite the generous gifts it received, the Old Vine could only absorb a fraction of the energy each year. The surplus Spirit Energy Group remained within the Old Vine, creating a space capable of sustaining living beings.
Even so, more than half of the Spirit Energy Group still lingered, continuing to be stored within this spatial realm. With the help of the Spirit Energy Group, the Old Vine gradually gained consciousness and formed a body woven from its own vines. It began to explore the world, making friends along the way and rescuing unfortunate members of its kind, allowing them to reside in its space. Over the years, the number of demon creatures within its realm grew immensely.
Fortunately, having lived for so long, the Old Vine had developed wisdom. It accepted demons that shared its nature; while there were minor frictions among their groups, major conflicts had never occurred. The continent was vast, and after witnessing so much, the Old Vine grew weary and often fell into slumber. Little did it expect that upon awakening this time, trouble would arise.
In a panic, the Old Vine instinctively activated the stored Spirit Energy Group to save Sangjie. Sangjie's innate talent was already exceptional; combined with the transformation from the Spirit Energy Group, he became like a bottomless pit, absorbing half of what remained of the Old Vine's Spirit Energy Group in one go.
With an exceptionally gifted body and pure Spirit Energy stored within him, along with thousands of years' worth of accumulated knowledge about Demon Catchers, Sang Qingxiao became one of the most formidable Demon Catchers in this realm.
As for how formidable he truly was, Sang Qingxiao had no idea; after all, there were always greater beings beyond one's own understanding.
Now back to life in Exile Land. The harsh climate and grueling labor were not the worst aspects. No matter where one found themselves, the most terrifying thing was human nature. Moreover, in Exile Land, prolonged imprisonment and abuse had gradually altered people's mental states; many inmates could hardly be considered human anymore—their actions were no different from those of beasts!
Initially, Sang Qingxiao had protection from Sang Jue and several older brothers. However, after a few years of being shielded, Sang Jue suddenly let go. "Sangjie," he said sternly, "I've taught you all I can. From here on out, you must walk your own path. If you can't endure it and face humiliation again, then end it yourself."
Sang Qingxiao was momentarily stunned upon hearing this. Sang Jue felt reluctant but concealed his emotions; he continued speaking coldly. "The Sang Family must have someone survive. Here, every member's primary task is to protect themselves. A strong member of the Sang Family cannot sacrifice their life for a weaker one; only then will our bloodline endure!"
Oh, understood—survival of the fittest. Sang Qingxiao grasped Sang Jue's decision and wholeheartedly agreed with it.
On the first day alone, Sang Qingxiao began to move. Her body swelled rapidly, as if inflated like a balloon. The members of the Sang Family were taken aback by the sight. Sang Qingxiao casually patted their shoulders and reassured them, "Don't worry, I can handle the poison myself. If I don't change my appearance, as a woman among this group in Exile Land, I won't be able to hide for long."
"But can you really revert back?" Sang Jue asked.
