The next day, the streets of Jingjing City were under strict surveillance. News of the Plague from the south spread everywhere, and households began to limit their outings. More and more people donned masks as they walked the streets. 0

Sang Qingxiao felt no remorse for having Yan Min stage the Plague; so what if people were anxious? There were already disaster victims appearing in the Suburbs of the Capital. Who knew if any of them had contracted the disease? Even in later times, the Plague was terrifying, let alone in ancient times. When the Plague struck, one misstep could lead to near-total devastation. It was better to take precautions early. 0

Sang Qingxiao kept a close watch on the patrons of the Small Tavern, preventing them from running around. She also instructed Old Vine to prepare preventive medicine for the Plague early on. After downing a large bowl of it, Li Cu began to foam at the mouth. 0

"Don't think I don't know that you were behind those two cases of Plague in Jingjing City," Li Cu accused while gagging. 0

"I know you followed me that day. I never intended to hide anything from you all, my own people, so I let you see everything from start to finish." 0

Being family eased Li Cu's mind considerably. 0

"Hmph! It's one thing to mess with others, but why do it to us? I've never had such bitter medicine in my life, Old Vine! Can't you add a bit more sugar?" 0

"Good medicine is bitter!" Old Vine replied with concern. "I've lived longer than you all and have experienced the Plague more times than you can count. This unseen enemy is far more terrifying than war." 0

The girl’s actions aligned with his thoughts; early prevention was indeed necessary. However, once those symptoms disappeared from that couple in a few days, people would likely become lax again. "How about we secretly create a few more fake Plague patients?" he suggested. 0

"That works." 0

As they discussed this aimlessly, there was a knock at the door of the Small Tavern. 0

"We're closed!" Li Cu shouted. 0

"It's me, Qi Xiaomian." 0

"Huh? You're back already? Isn't the disaster in the south still ongoing?" 0

Old Vine opened the door but didn’t immediately let him in. "Take off your clothes outside." 0

Though it was late at night when he entered the city, considering how tense things were both inside and outside, Qi Xiaomian complied with a smile, stripping off his clothes and shoes until he was left with only a thin layer of undergarments. 0

Old Vine then doused him with a potion from head to toe and made him stand there to dry for a while before finally letting him in. Once inside, he was given a bowl of medicine. Seeing him drink it down so readily, Old Vine thought for a moment and decided to increase the dosage. 0

After downing a second bowl, Qi Xiaomian felt as if he might burst from being so full. 0

Only then did Old Vine feel satisfied. 0

"Misha, may I borrow your bathhouse?" 0

The scent of mixed herbal medicine, wind, and the smell of camping lingered around Qi Xiaomian, who found it quite unpleasant himself. Misha not only prepared a bath for him but also went next door to fetch him a set of everyday clothes. 0

After taking a shower, Qi Xiaomian, with his damp long hair draped over his shoulders, sat across from Sang Qingxiao, feeling hungry. "I'm starving," he declared. 0

"Miss Sang," he continued, "it's been a while since we last met, and I've missed you dearly." 0

Sang Qingxiao shivered slightly at his words and went to get him something to eat. 0

"Why are you back?" Li Cu asked, her cat-like face raised in curiosity. "Weren't you supposed to be gone for several more months?" 0

In just a few days, Li Cu had already adapted to her feline form, finding it convenient to run around freely, act cute, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. 0

"I found out some information that needed my attention," Qi Xiaomian replied. "I had to come back to handle it. Once I'm done here, I'll head south." 0
