Mingchang County, with her sweet and charming demeanor, was favored by the Empress Dowager, who often summoned her to the palace for companionship. This gave her a convenient opportunity to act. "Your Majesty," Cai Zhuo said, "the county lord is coming this way."
Xuande Emperor sat up at this news and wiped his hands clean of grease with a handkerchief. "She wants to see me?"
"That's what she said."
"Then let her in; I have some questions for her as well."
Cai Zhuo hesitated. "Your Majesty, the county lord seems unhinged."
Xuande Emperor frowned. "What do you mean?"
It was said that she claimed the child was in danger and accused Yongxin Marquis of plotting against the royal family. Those ministers still in the palace overheard her shouting these phrases repeatedly on her way here.
Xuande Emperor's frown deepened further. "Which royal family did A Mian conspire against?"
"Her son," came the reply.
"Ha! Does she really consider that child part of the royal family?"
According to the rules, it counts, but the bloodline is a bit thin. However, in response to His Majesty's words, Cai Zhuo dared not refute.
The Xuande Emperor then asked Qi Xiaomian, "What exactly did you do to make her hate you so much?"
Qi Xiaomian thought for a moment. Did he send someone to monitor her? Did he have all the bodies from the Moat brought ashore? Did he strictly guard the Moat to prevent anyone from approaching? As for matters related to the county, those were the only three things he could think of. Could it be that she was driven to desperation?
