The experienced Shopkeeper could see through this ploy; it was clear that they wanted to enter Tongji Hall and meet with members of the Ouyang Family. With a face full of anger, he retorted, "This is slander! It is said that Yongxin Marquis is a just person and should not be deceived by such calumny."
"Ha ha ha," I chuckled. "It's my first time being praised for my fairness. Since you say I'm just, I must investigate this matter thoroughly to clear Tongji Hall's name." The Shopkeeper was clearly being put in his place.
"Thoroughly investigate?" The Shopkeeper heard this as an obvious threat. "How thorough? Tongji Hall is still under court jurisdiction; if you nitpick like this, Tongji Hall will not only suffer but might also lose its reputation entirely. Moreover, you're threatening me with none other than The Office of Censors, which is notorious and relentless."
After weighing his options carefully, the Shopkeeper instructed Little Apothecary inside to respond. Little Apothecary quickly emerged and whispered a few words to him. He then respectfully said, "We can allow one person from Yongxin Marquis in."
"I need to bring one more person," I insisted.
Seeing that it was a woman accompanying me, the Shopkeeper reluctantly agreed. Not far away, within an eye-catching carriage...
