A stunningly beautiful woman, dressed provocatively and exuding charm, walked gracefully across the sandy ground, inching closer to Qi Xiaomian. With each step she took, her body moved with subtle changes, deliberately crafted to make her appear more alluring.
The effect was undeniable. The men's gazes shifted away, while the monk beside her began to chant softly with his eyes closed. In contrast, two women in the crowd widened their eyes in eager anticipation, ready to witness the unfolding drama.
Xiaoxiao wondered if Qi Xiaomian could withstand such temptation. Li Cu could hardly contain her desire to move closer. Qi Xiaomian had his back turned to them, making it a pity that they couldn't see his expression.
Sang Qingxiao had never doubted Qi Xiaomian's composure. Sang Qingxiao understood him well. As the enchantress drew near, Qi Xiaomian resisted the urge to pull away. The enchantress's arm coiled around him like a snake, but he used his inner strength to gently push her away. This action did not harm her; instead, she interpreted it as a sign of pity, mirroring Qi Hao's attitude towards her.
Consequently, she had no doubts and moderated her movements slightly, maintaining some distance as she sweetly said, "My Lord, it has been quite some time since you last visited Mei'er."
Qi Xiaomian replied succinctly that he had been busy lately. Mei'er had heard about the troubles in Yezhou and noted that things were not going smoothly. However, she had been preoccupied with matters concerning him and hadn't heard much else. "Could you tell me who has caused you such trouble? I can finally take a break from my affairs here and help you vent your frustrations."
Qi Xiaomian flashed an enticing smile as he seized the opportunity to bring up an old story. "Vent my frustrations? Just like when you killed that man years ago?"
Mei'er's expression faltered for a moment before she quickly smiled again. "My Lord, why do you bring that up again? I took a life only for you and for our future."
As the conversation continued, the atmosphere became tense, with movements that seemed practiced and graceful, never crossing into annoyance but always exuding beauty.
Qi Xiaomian remained unaffected by her charm, raising a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, feigning exhaustion. This only served to heighten the tension in the woman across from him.
"My Lord," she asked, "have you been too tired lately? Perhaps you should take a short rest?"
"It's no use," Qi Xiaomian shook his head. "As soon as I close my eyes, I dream of certain scenes that keep me awake at night. Riri is also quite troubled."
The woman was startled by his words. "My Lord, what is happening to you? Have you consulted a doctor?"
"Yes, I have, but they couldn't diagnose anything. The nightmares are becoming more frequent, and the scenes in my dreams are clearer—some of them even depict the demon realm. Sometimes, when I happen to pass by the back mountain, I can hear some inexplicable sounds; I can't tell if it's just my imagination."
"Or perhaps all of this is related to your former master?" she suggested cautiously. "After all, he was a powerful demon. If we think about it, his death seemed too easy. Could it be that he faked his death and has some backup plan? Waiting for us to let our guard down before seeking revenge?"
