Qi Xiaomian glanced at her helplessly. "Why don't you learn its actions instead of just its words and tone?"
Actions, like those big bear hugs?
Heh, dream on.
After dawdling for a while longer, Qi Xiaomian finally called back the Silly Beast, which had been playing along the way as the carriage moved.
From afar, it opened its arms wide. "Mian Mian, I'm back! So much fun!"
Qi Xiaomian stretched out his leg and blocked its plump belly, which had gained weight in just a few days. "What did I tell you? No hugging like that outside."
The Silly Beast retracted its arms and stood up straight, obediently saying, "Got it."
Hmph, now you remember? You'll forget it soon enough and make the same mistake next time, won't you?
The Silly Beast just grinned at him with its clear yet foolish big eyes.
Qi Xiaomian was no longer fooled by its antics. "Don't tell me your Former Master’s Magic Breath didn’t work. Next time you smile at me, hide that little bit of cunning in your eyes deeper!"
The Silly Beast blinked innocently, pretending not to understand. Then it pulled out a large bouquet of flowers from behind. "Mian Mian, fragrant, beautiful, for you!"
"Who did you learn this from?"
Seeing Qi Xiaomian not accepting them, the Silly Beast shoved the wildflowers into his hands and then pulled out another bouquet to offer to Sang Qingxiao.
Sang Qingxiao made a surprised expression. "Oh! Is this for me? The Silly Beast is getting more thoughtful!"
The Silly Beast even made a shy face in response.
Sang Qingxiao reached out to pat its head, but noticing some distance between them, it lowered its head to touch her hand instead.
"Are you having fun?" Sang Qingxiao asked.
The Silly Beast nodded vigorously.
Sang Qingxiao gestured for it to join the other excited children in the carriage while she let Misha take over the driving seat and climbed in herself.
Old Vine mentioned that he had an old friend nearby whom he hadn’t seen in years and wanted to visit. Li Cu couldn’t sit still and joined him to play.
First, she wiped the sweat off a few panting children; the Silly Beast happily mimicked her actions, taking care of several younger ones.
As it turned around, Sang Qingxiao noticed a large hole burned into its outer robe near its backside, with the white fabric underneath slightly charred at the tips.
Her gaze shifted to Yin Can, who shrank back slightly. "I didn’t mean to! I just wanted to show the Silly Beast that I could start a fire—just a tiny flame! But then I accidentally burned a large area."
I was anxious about how to put out the fire when Silly Beast simply sat right down on it, rubbing against the flames all over the burning area, and just like that, the fire was extinguished.
I was completely stunned; the fire was so fierce that I expected to see a charred backside, but surprisingly, only a little bit of fur got singed.
At this point, Yin Can couldn't help but give Silly Beast a thumbs up. "Our Silly Beast is impressive! You're the only one brave enough to directly confront the Divine Fire, uh, good friend."
What started as a casual remark about being a person made Yin Can reconsider; after all, Silly Beast wasn't human. It wouldn't be quite right to just call it a beast either, so he cleverly settled on referring to it as a good friend.
During these days filled with the chatter of several children, Silly Beast had rapidly improved its understanding of language. Upon hearing the term "friend," its eyes crinkled into a joyful smile.
Although nothing serious had happened, Sang Qingxiao still nagged at Yin Can, reminding him not to play with fire carelessly and punishing him with extra writing assignments.
Pouting, Yin Can pulled out some blank sheets of paper and sat in the corner, scribbling away furiously.
