Sang Qingxiao turned her gaze back to the white bones on the ground; this was her first time seeing a Demon Bone. Could the remains of a demon be similar to that of a human? She quickly dismissed the thought, realizing it wasn't entirely accurate. While they resembled human bones, they were as white as jade, surely imperishable. However, there were no signs of decaying flesh or clothing nearby; it couldn't be that the demon had died without any covering.
When she had first seen it over a decade ago, it had already looked like this. Sang Qingxiao was genuinely curious and couldn't help but wonder if she could touch it, even though she knew it was disrespectful. You know that's an inappropriate thought.
"I'm sorry, forget I said anything."
Just as she finished speaking, something unusual happened with the remains. The jawbone moved slightly, almost imperceptibly. The Silly Beast, who was closest and crying, didn't notice, but everyone else became alert. Old Vine was the first to pull the children away, even taking Yin Can with them.
Misha tried to lift the Silly Beast up but couldn't budge the stubborn creature at all. All she could do was warn that the remains were acting strangely and that they should retreat for now.
The Silly Beast ignored her, clutching the remains tighter with its furry paws. It let out an even louder wail, inadvertently applying more pressure and causing a piece of hand bone to break off from the remains. The crying abruptly stopped.
The Silly Beast was truly stunned by its own actions, looking utterly bewildered. Tears streamed down its face in larger droplets, but it no longer dared to make a sound. Its hands trembled as it placed the hand bone down carefully. After setting it down, it felt something was off about the angle and adjusted it repeatedly while muttering, "Master, Silly Beast is sorry. Silly Beast didn't mean to. Silly Beast got scared and broke you. What should I do? Silly Beast is so foolish!"
All of the Silly Beast's attention was focused on the hand bone. However, to everyone else’s eyes, the remains were moving more vigorously now. Accompanied by cracking sounds as if bones were being twisted, each joint slowly began to realign.
Finally, the neck moved first, turning directly toward the Silly Beast. Although there were no flesh or blood in its hollow eye sockets, Sang Qingxiao imagined an expression of disdain and disappointment on its face.
The next part to crack was the arm that the Silly Beast had broken off. Clearly disapproving of its clumsy attempt at reattachment, the remains shook itself and reconnected the limb seamlessly.
It was at this moment that the Silly Beast finally noticed the movement of the remains.
It was not afraid; instead, its eyes sparkled with increasing surprise, and it couldn't help but move closer to Remains.
When its large head was just a fist's distance from the skull, Remains' arm finally regained its mobility and swung a powerful slap without hesitation. The force of the slap was contained, yet it made a loud sound. While it didn't cause any substantial harm, it did send Silly Beast flying back a bit. Silly Beast tumbled backward a few times before stabilizing and sitting on the ground, grinning foolishly.
After the slap, Remains moved again, shaking its neck and turning towards Qi Xiaomian, waving at him.
"Whoa, Senior?" The head nodded slowly in acknowledgment.
Qi Xiaomian immediately stepped forward; without needing further prompting from the head, he instinctively helped Remains adjust and move its joints.
This took some effort. The others stood respectfully to the side, waiting.
When it finally stood up, Qi Xiaomian tried to assist it, but it refused and walked over to Sang Qingxiao instead, extending an arm towards her. When she didn’t respond, it lifted a leg as well.
"Uh, Huo, Senior, are you upset because of my earlier disrespectful words? I was just speaking casually; it was indeed very impolite. You are magnanimous; I apologize to you. If you're still not satisfied, feel free to give me a small punishment?"
Upon hearing this, Remains actually smiled at her. It seemed that the senior was not angry and was in quite a good mood.
