Zhang Jingxue was puzzled.
Qi Xiaomian explained, "I want to find a new host for his body."
"Absolutely not!" Zhang Jingxue immediately opposed. "Isn't it enough to let him die? The funeral arrangements are already made. What are you trying to accomplish with this unnecessary action? You told me before that you would return the Zhang Family to me."
"Madam," Qi Xiaomian replied, "there are benefits for you in borrowing a corpse to revive him."
The situation regarding Qi Hao's body and his dealings with demons could be concealed, but everything he had arranged inside and outside the city was already known to outsiders. This matter needed an explanation.
"Don't think that just because he is dead, this issue will be over," Qi Xiaomian continued. "As long as he is alive, there will still be supporters for him. That is a deterrent; no matter how great the mistake, his existence can downplay it. If he dies, those seeking justice will come knocking at your door. You and your son will have to face the consequences—at best, you will have to offer a significant sacrifice; at worst, this state will no longer be safe for you."
Zhang Jingxue had been filled with resentment before and hadn't considered these implications. After hearing Qi Xiaomian's words, she realized that the trouble ahead would be the most troublesome.
Qi Xiaomian continued, "Once Qi Hao is dead, it won't be easy for Qi Xiao Kun to take over the Qi Family. If we can get Qi Hao to personally abdicate, everything will fall into place."
Zhang Jingxue was already persuaded, but she needed to know who this person was that they needed to borrow a corpse from.
After some thought, Qi Xiaomian chose to speak half-truths. "Huo Qi—Senior Huo—when I was young, he once looked after me through Qi Hao's body. He was a good spirit and the only person who treated me well during my childhood."
"Madam," he reassured her, "you don't need to worry about my intentions. Once he possesses a body and after the transition of the Qi Family affairs is complete, I will take him to Jingjing City to live. We will never return here again. As for the Qi Family, it's up to you; neither he nor I will covet anything from it. And forget what you just said about ending things yourself."
"Xiao Qi is really successful now," he added, "and this matter is settled; the Qi Family will always be your home."
Zhang Jingxue spoke polite words but couldn't help feeling relieved inside. She believed what Qi Xiaomian said was true. When he asked her to step back again, she decisively moved next to Sang Qingxiao.
Unable to hold back, she quietly asked if the girl knew who he was.
"I know; I won't kill a good spirit," Sang Qingxiao replied.
She also considered whether she should erase Zhang Jingxue's related memories but saw that Qi Xiaomian seemed not inclined towards that action, so she held back and decided to ask him later.
Inside Qi Hao's body, battles were ongoing; the ghostly shadows on his face changed constantly. As Huo Qi's face appeared more frequently, Qi Xiaomian felt both nervous and relieved—it seemed like it was going to work.
The ring on his hand became too hot and turned to ash as a vague shadow slipped into Qi Hao's body. With violent tremors of his body, Huo Qi's ghostly figure finally stabilized after two incense sticks burned down.
At that moment, Qi Hao spoke, his voice cold. "Little girl, lend me a hand. I don't like having so many ghosts crowding around me. They aren't good for anything; just kill them directly."
"Alright, senior."
Huo Qi began tossing the ghosts out one by one, while Sang Qingxiao eliminated them with ease. The spirits had already been weakened significantly by Huo Qi, making it much easier for Sang Qingxiao to handle them.
Noticing that Qi Xiaomian was rather idle at that moment, Huo Qi grew irritated. "You unfilial child! Can't you see that I've sustained quite a few injuries? Hurry up and bandage them! You're so oblivious; you're even worse than your silly brother!"
