Ling Qian's situation grew increasingly dire; she spent more time in a deep slumber than awake, and even in her sleep, she was restless, often shouting and tossing about. Her maidservants would take quite a while to rouse her from her dreams.
When she finally awoke, she had developed a suspicious nature. She constantly questioned the servants in the room, demanding to know what they had heard her say. With her fierce demeanor, even if they had heard something, they dared not admit it. Despite swearing oaths, Ling Qian remained doubtful, resorting to threats of punishment, imprisonment, or even execution.
Her methods became increasingly terrifying, yet Ling Qian's eyes were still filled with fear. She could not bear the sight of white or the sound of words that resembled death; she imagined hearing laughter and insisted on punishing all the servants in the room.
The prince allowed her to act out this way, spending over an hour each day in her chamber, still deeply affectionate towards her. Ling Qian's condition worsened to the point where she even lashed out at him for not bringing Sang Qingxiao to her.
"Your Highness! She is the only one who can save me now! I am Consort Two; why wouldn’t she help? The entire Great Jing Dynasty belongs to our family; she should assist us. What right does she have to refuse me?"
"Qianqian, please don’t speak of our family like that. If word gets out, it won’t be good for either of us."
"That Miss Sang is not a doctor! I’ve sent people to search for renowned physicians; Ling Yuan Shou will first help you recuperate. We still have time."
"Your Highness!" Ling Qian cried desperately, "You don’t understand! Ordinary doctors cannot save me. Please bring her here! If she refuses again after being locked in the dungeon, we can force her to treat me."
"Qianqian, I truly cannot do that. Miss Sang is not just any Demon Catcher; my father values her highly."
"Enough! She’s just a Demon Catcher; I am still the Sea Goddess! Over these years, I’ve gathered many supporters for you. If I die, do you think they will still willingly serve you?"
"Qin Junxiang! You must give me a clear answer today: will you save me or not?"
A flicker of anger crossed the prince's eyes, but he continued to speak gently. "Of course I want to save you; haven’t you seen my heart for you over these years? However, regarding Miss Sang, it will take some time to arrange things. How about I have those Demon Catchers from The Office of Censors take a look at you first?"
After his question went unanswered, he looked down and saw that Ling Qian had fallen back into a deep sleep. He carefully laid her down and slowly exited the room, instructing the servants to take good care of her.
Once outside the courtyard, he took out a handkerchief and meticulously wiped his hands several times before discarding it carelessly. He then summoned his confidant and requested assistance from The Office of Censors.
Inside The Office of Censors was Yong Huai, who was both curious and concerned about the situation. Upon seeing Ling Qian, he regretted his decision; he had already cast several high-level Revitalization Talismans, and her complexion visibly improved.
The prince was filled with delight at this change. However, Yong Huai was drenched in sweat as he expressed uncertainty about the cause of her illness and whether it was due to the actions of a Demon Catcher. He needed to consult more texts.
The prince was accommodating and waved him off to leave. After Yong Huai returned, he immediately turned into a Small Tavern, anxiously searching for Sang Qingxiao. Upon finding her, he sat there dumbfounded, unsure of what to say next.
Sang Qingxiao had received the news early and warmed a pot of wine to calm his nerves. "What about Consort Two?"
"Miss Sang, how do you know?" Yong Huai sighed. "It's pointless to ask that. With your connections to The Office of Censors, you can find out anything easily."
Yong Huai was unaware that Sang Qingxiao had also seen the situation. The prince hadn't mentioned it either. He had barged into the Small Tavern simply because he was startled by Ling Qian's condition and didn't know what to do.
He spoke softly, "Things are not looking good. I once had someone bless my eyes, though it wasn't very successful. I can still see a bit through the haze. Consort Two is burdened with karmic debts, and those debts demand a price—she doesn't have many days left."
