"That's enough," Shi Yun said, twisting his ear and refusing to let go. Wang Kuan was getting anxious. "For Ji Da's sake, show some respect in front of others. We're already inside the house, so let go quickly!"
Wang Kuan shook his head, and Shi Yun finally loosened his grip, a smile in his eyes as he playfully scolded him, "You little rascal!"
Wang Kuan pretended not to hear. "What's wrong? Are you worried about your old partner? Can't stand to see me bully her?"
"You know you're bullying her."
"She deserves it."
"What did she do to you?"
"She stole my things! Lord Great-Grandmother said that everything from the Shi Family belongs to me." Wang Kuan glared at Shi Yun. "You can't possibly be unaware of what she has done in this household. If you keep indulging her like this, are you hoping to have a little one with her? Just look at your age—what are you thinking?"
Shi Yun slapped the back of his head, but Wang Kuan easily dodged it. "Tsk tsk, getting angry out of shame."
After a moment of silence, Shi Yun sighed. "You've heard about your little uncle, right?"
Wang Kuan nodded.
"Though it's partly because of her indulgence, I also have my reasons for ignoring it. People say my heart is cold and hard, but after your little uncle died, I ended up with white hair. I feel guilty towards Cui Lan; if she wants to vent, then let her."
"And what about me? Lord, Great-Grandmother, grandmother, and my father?"
"Naturally, I feel guilty towards them too. As you said, I'm an unfilial son, a foolish husband, a bad father, and a clumsy grandfather. In this family relationship, I haven't done anything right."

Wang Kuan interrupted before Shi Yun could finish. "Marrying a wife means marrying wisely; I really don't know how you chose this daughter-in-law."

Wang Kuan frowned. "So that's how it is with you."

Wang Kuan didn't refute him but said instead, "But remember, success or failure lies with Xiao He; Cui Lan has madness in her bones. Sooner or later, she'll drag you into the abyss—then how will you petition for the people?"
"She's just a woman."
"You underestimate women too much," Wang Kuan interrupted again. "Otherwise, do you think I target her like this? It's just to force this poison out sooner."
"What has she done?"
"Well, your bedside manner leaves much to be desired. Since you didn't know before, there's no need to seek answers now. When the truth comes out, your surprised expression will seem all the more genuine, making it hard for anyone to find fault with you."

Shi Yun didn't think Wang Kuan was being alarmist. After a moment of contemplation, he calmly asked, "What do I need to do?"
