Revenge requires patience.
I waited for over a year, consumed by thoughts of how to take down the Zheng Family. The more I pondered, the more my Inner Demon grew, and my thirst for their blood intensified. They say a life must be repaid with a life, but it seemed that the entire Zheng Family could not atone for the sins committed by Zheng Moru.
Lao Lu was increasingly anxious, and because of Sang Qingxiao, he dared not act recklessly. After raising suspicions about Lao Lu, Misha and Huo Qi employed various methods to investigate whether there was a Mirror Demon around him, but they returned empty-handed.
Misha felt both anxious and impatient, while Huo Qi, like Sang Qingxiao, developed a competitive spirit. He had heard that Old Vine had survived for many years and amassed a vast collection of books. He forced Old Vine to open his internal space and became immersed in searching for information, neglecting even to eat.
Since Huo Qi took on most of the task of finding the Mirror Demon, Sang Qingxiao focused his attention on the Zheng Family. "Has Zheng Moru arrived?" he asked Old Vine.
Old Vine scoffed. "My body from the Dayu Dynasty tells me that Zheng Moru is living lavishly every day, carefree and enjoying life."
The Monarch of the Dayu Dynasty indulged him; after all, he had made significant contributions in the massacre of the Sang Family and had secretly transferred a considerable amount of military supplies to the Dayu Dynasty.
"What about the evidence collection over there?"
Collecting evidence against him was easy. After he left, perhaps having been cautious for too long, he let his guard down. Without hesitation, he discarded many letters and correspondence, forgetting them within days. After gathering enough material over some time, I grew impatient and stopped collecting.
Sang Qingxiao instructed that they needed to devise a method to force Zheng Moru to confess in Jingjing City. He must admit his crimes publicly regarding the Cotton Clothing Incident to clear the Sang Family's name.
If executed properly, even a small scheme by Chongjing Emperor and Cui Cheng could be revealed to the public. While it wouldn't completely absolve the Sang Family, it would at least provide a starting point.
Old Vine suggested letting Lao Lu take action since their home was on the verge of being wiped out. If he still wanted to act as a spy in the Great Jing Dynasty, Zheng Moru's identity must remain intact.
However, Sang Qingxiao countered that this method was risky. Lao Lu was nearing old age; as people grow older, they become more protective of their lives. Given that they had already gathered so much information, it would solidify his position in the Dayu Dynasty. Besides, he had another family there and did not lack heirs.
It might be better for him to seize this opportunity to retire and enjoy wealth and honor fully.
There was indeed a possibility in Sang Qingxiao's speculation. Was there another method to compel him? Perhaps they could strike from within the Dayu Dynasty, making it impossible for him to stay there until he had no choice but to return.
While it was feasible to strike from that side, it would take too long to set up. I could afford to wait; however, with Lao Lu's changing temperament, he might not have that luxury.
If the Zheng Family were truly annihilated and news reached the Dayu Dynasty, Zheng Moru might be so frightened that he would never come back at all.
What should I do now!
Sang Qingxiao thought for a moment. Zheng Moru was a vain person who craved the power and status of the nobility. You once told me that he took great pride in his high-ranking official positions in both countries. If the Great Jing Dynasty were to grant him another title...
