Faced with the brazen and tough side of the Matriarch, the man nearly lost his patience. He pushed her once more and shut the door behind him. The Matriarch stumbled back a few steps, falling onto her backside. With her weight, getting up was no easy task, and as she clumsily moved, those around her stifled their laughter.
She seemed accustomed to the gazes of others and, finally standing up, waved her hand defiantly. "How dare you push me! Do you know how powerful my influence in Guo County is?"
The Matriarch pointed at one person. "You! Go to the county office right now and bring back some people. The rest of you, break down this door for me!"
Just then, the door suddenly swung open again. The man, sensing that things were escalating, decided to fully open the door and stepped aside, allowing them to search.
"Master, there's no one here!"
The Matriarch didn't believe it. "The information can't be wrong; did they jump out the window?" The third floor wasn't too high, and there was a window conveniently open in the room. The Matriarch squeezed inside and leaned out to look for a while but saw no sign of anyone.
Fuming, she stood before the man again. "I said there was another person in this room! I suspect they were used to block me; your presence gave them enough time to escape."
"I can't catch them, but I can still catch you! You're close enough; naturally, you have their leverage. If you'd spoken up sooner, we could have avoided this mess."
Frustrated by the entanglement, the man finally spoke up. "There's only me in here; the shopkeeper can testify. If you keep causing trouble, I won't hold back."
The Matriarch hadn't been threatened like this in years and naturally brushed off his words, commanding her people to push forward.
The man dealt with them with just a few dismissive gestures. Unfortunately, he still didn't reveal his face.
Qi Xiaomian exchanged glances with several of his subordinates watching from the sidelines. One of them, holding a bowl of food while watching the commotion, took advantage of the chaos during the scuffle. Pretending to lose his balance, he fell and accidentally let go of his bowl, which landed perfectly on the man's head.
The soup splashed everywhere, soaking his entire head. The subordinate rushed over to apologize and seized the opportunity to lift his mask slightly. However, before he could fully uncover it, the man pressed it back down with an unhappy glare at the one who had apologized.
Revealing his face was clearly more unacceptable than being provoked by the Matriarch; his fists clenched tightly as he prepared to strike.
At that moment, soldiers arrived quickly and surrounded the area just in time to stop the chaos on the third floor.
"Everyone else, leave this place!"
With many spectators gathered and some blocking access upstairs, the soldiers began driving away onlookers. As they pushed through in front of Qi Xiaomian, he took advantage of the situation to pull the still-surprised Sang Qingxiao into the room with him.
That person's face, how does it resemble Xuan Yin so much? Qi Xiaomian, you saw it too, right? That looks like Xuan Yin, doesn't it?
Yes, but it seems like it’s not quite him. Perhaps it's just Wisdom Supreme playing tricks.
Sang Qingxiao paced around the room. Ever since Xuan Yin took on a position at The Office of Censors, he has been assigned to external missions, and she hadn't seen him for several months. The last time she saw him was before he went to Yezhou, which was about half a year ago. During that time, they exchanged letters occasionally, but the handwriting in the Demon Subduing Institute belonged to him; imitation wasn't difficult.
Wisdom Supreme harbored considerable hostility towards Misha, likely stemming from jealousy—jealous of his insight, jealous of his current strength, jealous that he had committed crimes yet still lived, and even more jealous that he had become the master of the Nine Relics.
Over time, hatred grew from jealousy. Arranging this competition was clearly a setup for failure; holding Xuan Yin in his hands was his strategy for turning the tables.
Qi Xiaomian tried to reassure her. "Xiaoxiao, don’t be anxious. It’s just a face. Xuan Yin is tall and slender; it would be hard for him to have such a robust physique in such a short time. That person's build is at least two or three times more muscular than Xuan Yin."
