In Jingjing City, there were still unfinished matters concerning them. After dealing with Mingze, Shi Yun returned to the study alone. His gaze lingered for a moment on the letter placed prominently on the desk, and upon closer inspection, he noticed a striking mulberry leaf illustrated on the envelope.
Qi Xiaomian had somehow brought along a large flower bull, a rare sight with its robust body and broad back, moving steadily along the path. Sang Qingxiao rode it for a while, but soon let the children take their turn. At that moment, Liu Cong was sitting on the bull's back, holding onto The Office of Censors, feeling both scared and excited. Shy as he was, he imitated The Office of Censors and shouted a few times.
He had intended to return Liu Cong to the Lei Family, but Yin Can took on this task only to feign compliance. On the way back, he claimed to have dropped something, and when he returned, he was riding alongside Liu Cong.
Ah Cong had never been outside Jingjing City and had hardly seen the streets. He spent most of his time either studying or staying in the tombs; after all, he was still just a child. When Yin Can spoke up for Liu Cong, Liu Cong looked like a pitiful pug, evoking sympathy from those around him, prompting Sang Qingxiao to agree.
Seeing Sang Qingxiao nearly step into a small puddle, Qi Xiaomian pulled her back and advised her to be careful. After holding her back, he naturally took her hand. Sang Qingxiao did not shy away but asked him if he was truly having fun outside the city.
There was a time for play and a time to hurry; they had stumbled upon an endless expanse of rice fields where all the villagers were busy farming. The golden hue cast by the setting sun added to the scene's beauty. With food comes hope, and since the children had never seen such sights before, they were delighted. So they decided to take a break.
With Sang Qingxiao's speed-enhancing talisman in hand, they could easily make up for lost time; besides, their schedule was not urgent. Qi Xiaomian's decision to leave the capital was initially impulsive—a joke that turned serious when the children chimed in with their desire to play outside. Their innocent words sparked longing in everyone. After Sang Qingxiao agreed, several adults worked together to plan a route.
Qi Xiaomian set the entire route: they would have fun while ensuring speed with the talisman and drop off Private Army Camp at his secret Garrison along the way. If they allowed Private Army Camp to remain stationed in the Suburbs of the Capital any longer, those three thousand men would become useless. Moreover, Private Army Camp didn't sound as appealing as Wolf Howl Camp.
Initially worried that this trip might affect Sang Qingxiao's progress, she reassured him that she wasn't the only one from Sang Family involved; Sang Bai Jue was currently managing everything and could handle it without her presence being crucial.
Then she mysteriously added that when flowers were about to bloom, they would return to the capital. Flowers? Hadn't many already bloomed in spring? What kind of flower was she waiting for?
Qi Xiaomian had questions swirling in his mind but quickly pushed them aside as he led everyone in merriment—eating, drinking, and enjoying life carefree. Even though they occasionally spotted wanted posters related to him along their journey, Qi Xiaomian merely laughed it off, remarking that whoever drew those posters lacked skill; they didn't capture even half of his charm.
Sang Qingxiao half-heartedly agreed with him, saying yes indeed, you look your best; however, your uncle is truly ruthless.
"Uncle? I wouldn't dare to aspire to that."
Half a month later, the group entered Kishu.
The place you chose is quite remote. You keep saying we're almost there, but without the speed-up talisman, it would take us three months, wouldn't it?
It’s not that long if the roads are decent.
But isn’t it tough? We’ve been climbing mountains one after another, and it feels endless. The most frustrating part is that you’re being all mysterious about it, promising to show us something amazing without revealing a single detail.
Qi Xiaomian laughed, "If you're worried about scaring everyone, let’s wait until we see it before introducing it. Once we pass this state, we’ll be there."
Sang Qingxiao rolled her eyes. "I’d believe you if there wasn’t a chance that after we pass this state, we’ll end up at another unclear mountain peak."
Uh, that might actually be true.
Qi Xiaomian awkwardly changed the subject and began to introduce Kishu.
"Kishu has a spring-like climate year-round with blooming flowers everywhere. Some people use flowers as raw materials to create perfumes and powders. This has led to the entire state developing various products for women, which have grown increasingly popular, gradually gaining fame in Great Jing and even surrounding countries."
"Xiaoxiao, we should go shopping!"
Sang Qingxiao wasn’t very interested. "I can make some myself, besides, I usually don’t wear much makeup."
Qi Xiaomian was well aware of Sang Qingxiao's habits; her focus was primarily on skincare with very little emphasis on cosmetics. "In Kishu Castle, there are custom shops where we can find what you need soon enough. Why not stay a few days and choose carefully?"
"Get it soon?"
Sang Qingxiao understood Qi Xiaomian's implication; her cheeks flushed slightly as she shot him a shy glare. "What nonsense are you talking about!"
Qi Xiaomian smiled lightly and said nothing more, taking her hand and leading her through Kishu Castle.
Spring in Kishu Castle was indeed vibrant with flowers; it seemed every household had expertise in cultivating and maintaining their gardens. In front of their doors and on rooftops, as well as on both sides of the streets, flowers bloomed profusely in any space that didn’t obstruct the path.
It appeared that there were also people who understood design; upon closer inspection, one could see many flowers planted according to color schemes, creating simple yet beautiful patterns.
The flourishing business for women ensured that most families in Kishu Castle didn’t have to worry about food or drink; the citizens exuded a positive and optimistic spirit. Almost everyone passing by was treated kindly, and Sang Qingxiao felt delighted by Kishu.
"If you like it here, I could buy a courtyard for us. If we don’t want to stay in Garrison anymore, we could live here instead, and you could even reopen the Small Tavern."
"Who wants to live here with you?" Sang Qingxiao shook off his hand. "Do you think I can’t afford a courtyard? You’re thinking too much!"
Qi Xiaomian hurriedly tried to placate her again and led Sang Qingxiao into a small restaurant. "This place may not compare to your cooking skills, but it's one of the best in town for fresh flower banquets."
The flavors were enticing, and one could simply treat it as a delightful meal.
Qi Xiaomian skillfully ordered all the signature dishes and then handed the menu to Sang Qingxiao, allowing her to add a few more items based on her preferences.
Sang Qingxiao called over a waiter and engaged in a detailed discussion about the dishes.
As all the dishes were about to be served, the four younger children had yet to return. After entering the city, everyone had scattered in small groups, exploring according to their own interests, while the children insisted on wandering off on their own, with Xiao Ye and Old Vine following behind.
Sang Qingxiao tried to contact Old Vine and after a long wait finally received his response.
To her shock, the children were missing!
There were so many Flower Spirit friends around; she had been so engrossed in conversation with them that she hadn’t noticed the children had disappeared.
