The man suddenly sat up, causing Ji Rui to fall to the ground. Instead of helping her, he pointed at her and shouted, "Are you questioning me? Look at what I've become—who do you think is responsible for this?" 0

"I lost the child, but I didn't hold it against you. I thought we could make up for our regrets together. But after all these years, you've turned into someone who can't even lay an egg." 0

"You've done so many things to hurt me, yet I still chose to forgive you. And now you're acting like this?" 0

Ji Rui was used to his outbursts by now. Guilt made her lower her head again. "You've misunderstood me; I'm just worried about how badly you're hurt." 0

The man huffed in annoyance, "It better be that way." 0

Ji Rui picked herself up from the floor and continued to tend to his wounds. "I can only handle minor injuries; these deep wounds just need to be cleaned and bandaged. Have you prepared the food? Is the gold ready?" 0

She casually asked, "Are you leaving again?" 0

"You can't provide even a single clue about our son. How am I supposed to find him? If I can't find him in Great Jing, I'll have to look in other countries." 0

Ji Rui felt guilty as she replied, "There are still some clues." 0

"Is that really a clue? You've repeated it countless times—the child has two red moles on the inner side of his left arm." 0

"No, it's not the left arm; it's the right arm," Ji Rui corrected urgently. "One mole is large, about the size of a soybean, and the other is smaller." 0

The man impatiently interrupted her, "Do I not know that? I'm just a bit dazed from the pain. Fine, I'm going to sleep for a while. You better have what I want ready soon." 0

Ji Rui wondered how someone so shrewd in business could completely trust this man. 0

After searching for ten years without results, guilt weighed heavily on her heart. However, after witnessing the man's elusive skills, hope reignited within her. 0

He had appeared a year after their child went missing, and Ji Rui had kept his appearance a secret from her family. 0

He promised her he would find their child, but it had already been eighteen years with no news at all. 0

She knew this man had issues but was too afraid to confront him. Clinging to a nearly nonexistent hope, she continued to endure his unreasonable demands. 0

Ji Rui always reassured herself that if he wanted something, she might as well give it to him; it was just some money after all—what if he actually found their child? 0

Just as she arranged for her trusted aide to deliver items to him, a servant came in to report that several children had finished eating. A smile returned to Ji Rui's face as she thought of them. 0

The children waited for her and smiled as they said goodbye. 0

"I'll see you off." 0

"No need; Grandpa is just outside." 0

Ji Rui personally escorted them out of Ji Mansion. Outside the mansion, there was indeed a carriage waiting, but the driver was nowhere to be seen. 0

Yin Can and Liu Cong worked together to lift the two treasures into the carriage and then took the driver's seat themselves. 0

Ji Rui felt uneasy. "Let my coachman take you," he offered. 0

The Office of Censors peeked out from a small window. "No need, Auntie. We have Grandpa with us." 0

"Uh, can I apologize to your grandpa? I startled your family and should at least offer some compensation." 0

"No need, Auntie. My family wasn't startled; you even treated us to a meal. No compensation is necessary. My Xiaoxiao is wealthy, and Mian Mian is too. I'll let them know about you, but I can't guarantee you'll hear back." 0

Ji Rui thanked them repeatedly, but in his heart, he remained worried as he watched the carriage slowly depart. After instructing his servants, he had them quietly follow behind. 0

Once the children arrived, they chattered excitedly about their experiences. 0

Buddha Treasure said, "That auntie kept calling for treasures; she seemed so pitiful. I just wanted to comfort her." 0

The Office of Censors added, "I had to follow Buddha Treasure since she really did seem pitiful. I couldn't help much else, but I could recite a few Sutras; perhaps it would help with the auntie's madness." 0

Yin Can remarked, "The two little ones are soft-hearted. I couldn't dissuade them, so I let them be. Who would have thought that while watching a performance, they would be taken away by that madwoman?" 0

"I could have stopped them, but they were making faces at me, signaling me not to interfere. So I had no choice but to follow Ji Mansion." 0

Liu Cong nodded in agreement. "Yes, that's true." 0

The Office of Censors asked, "Can we help her find her son?" 0

Qi Xiaomian replied, "He disappeared more than a decade ago; the hope isn't great. It would require considerable manpower and resources. Even if she seems pitiful, we can't act impulsively out of compassion." 0

"There are many pitiful people; how can we help them all?" 0

Just as Qi Xiaomian was about to educate the children further on this matter, Old Vine spoke up. 0

"The Ji Family has a problem." 0

"What kind of problem?" Qi Xiaomian asked. 0

"There’s a demon! It's very powerful; if it hadn't been injured and let its guard down, with my abilities, I wouldn't have detected it." 0

Sang Qingxiao inquired, "An evil demon?" 0

"I can't say for sure." 0

"Do we have to intervene?" 0

I have a bad feeling about this. 0

Sang Qingxiao decided, "Then let's go ahead! Isn't Ji Rui here to discuss compensation? Although we are not short on money, it would be good to meet and talk. It might put their minds at ease." 0

And so they set off without delay. 0

In just the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, several little ones arrived at the entrance of Ji Mansion, followed by several horse-drawn carriages. The carriages looked quite ordinary on the outside, but from their construction alone, it was clear they belonged to no ordinary people. 0

Once everyone had disembarked from the carriages, the sharp-eyed doorman hurried inside to report. 0

Ji Rui came out quickly. With so many distinguished individuals gathered outside, he couldn't help but wonder if they were here to cause trouble. Perhaps money alone wouldn't resolve the issue; if necessary, he would double the compensation. 0

Ji Rui lowered his stance first. Before he could even utter an apology, The Office of Censors spoke up to comfort him, "Auntie, don't worry. My family isn't here to cause trouble." 0

However, Sang Qingxiao directly undermined that notion. "Who says they aren't?" 0

"Huh?" The Office of Censors looked at her in confusion, instinctively wanting to say something in defense of Ji Rui, but Yin Can covered his mouth. 0

Sang Qingxiao stepped forward with an imposing demeanor and said, "Children's words don't hold weight. What Miss Ji has done is rather serious. How about we discuss this inside?" 0
