Everyone noticed something was wrong, yet Niu Dali continued to shout about needing to take the child to see a doctor. There were indeed many physicians present, but from a distance, they could tell the child was lifeless. At such a moment, who would dare step forward and risk bad luck?
Seeing Niu Dali's state, it was clear he was just deceiving himself. After shouting for quite some time without summoning a doctor, he began calling out names. The first one he called was the Head of the Medical Institute. Relying on his background and medical skills, the Head of the Medical Institute felt somewhat confident facing Niu Dali.
While others hesitated to speak up, he boldly said, "Niu Xianshi, it’s time to stop tormenting the child. Investigate the situation and let the child pass peacefully; that is what you should do."
Though his words made sense, Niu Dali found them particularly grating. "If I ask you to treat him, then treat him! What nonsense are you spouting? If my son's condition worsens because of you, I will make you pay!"
Niu Dali scanned the crowd and added, "You all will accompany my Bao'er in death!"
The child in his arms was already dead, yet he insisted on blaming them; wasn't this just brazenly being unreasonable?
The crowd fell silent again, with some resisting, some persuading, and others begging for mercy.
Niu Dali shouted angrily, "Don't disturb my Bao'er! Don't you know he is unwell?"
A clever person among them quickly echoed his words, saying, "Since Young Master is ill, it’s not good for so many people to surround him. Why don’t we leave first? Once Young Master recovers, we can return."
Everyone chimed in agreement and eagerly stood up, wanting to leave.
Niu Dali ignored them; the door would not open either. His attention remained on the few physicians present. Seeing no one approach him, he took matters into his own hands and stepped off the platform while holding the child.
The Head of the Medical Institute sighed. Although he looked down on this eunuch from the bottom of his heart, he also felt pity for him having lost a child in middle age. He leaned forward to take a look at the child in Niu Dali's arms and confirmed once more: "Niu Xianshi, your child has passed away. Don’t get stuck in this dead end; your health is still good, and there will surely be more children born in your household."
"Passed away? Who are you calling deceased? You have quite a nerve to curse my son!"
Niu Dali's unreasonable behavior made the Head of the Medical Institute wary. He stepped back while at the same time Niu Dali made a move; his bodyguard stood beside him as he drew the guard's sword and swung it at the Head of the Medical Institute.
The blade fell and struck someone’s head; yet the Head of the Medical Institute remained alive. He pushed aside a subordinate who had instinctively stepped in front of him and his expression turned completely cold. "Niu Xianshi has lost his mind over his child's death; perhaps this surge of blood will help you regain your senses."
The Medical Institute bore the responsibility for the well-being of the entire royal family; even when Niu Xianshi was throwing a tantrum, there should be some measure of restraint.
Niu Dali laughed strangely. "Those who come from this palace are not simple folk; even Guo Yuan Shou, known for his compassionate heart, when faced with life-threatening situations would pull someone else down with him without hesitation."
Guo Yuan Shou felt humiliated by Niu Xianshi's insults and thought it better to seek out Immortal Statue quickly instead; perhaps a miracle similar to what happened with Niu Xianshi could occur.
With those words awakening him from his stupor, Niu Dali clutched the child tightly and headed toward the Daoist temple. Before leaving, he ordered everyone in the courtyard not to leave.
Even if they sealed off the estate, Sang Qingxiao and Qi Xiaomian could easily slip out without alarming anyone; they left Niu Mansion and followed after him to the Daoist temple.
Niu Dali didn’t seem to genuinely care about the child at all.
