As the voice of the Immortal Statue fell, it had already spoken. It wasn't a big deal; a few days' delay wouldn't matter. It was just a way to give them face.
However, the tone sounded somewhat off. Niu Dali didn't dwell on it too much, feeling quite disappointed inside. He maintained a cautious demeanor, trying to be polite, fearing they might not take the hint. Perhaps he should just convey some warning words from the Immortal Statue to the palace.
The Immortal Statue glanced warily in the direction of the palace. Having decided to give them face, it felt that issuing a warning would only make it seem petty.
But Niu Dali was not ready to give up; he wanted to persuade further. The Immortal Statue interrupted him with a stern warning, telling him to quiet down and commanding him to leave the observation area.
With a loud bang, the door of the observation hall slammed shut.
Niu Dali walked a few steps with a sullen face, then suddenly turned around. As he lifted his foot, he caught a glimpse of the observation hall again out of the corner of his eye. Feeling apprehensive, he changed direction and took a long detour toward the palace.
The sudden unrest within the royal family and their firm attitude made him uneasy. He had worked hard to attain wealth and status; he couldn't afford to lose it all so easily. Remembering how he had acted arrogantly in the palace before added to his anxiety.
The immortal had already ordered him to behave and not take advantage of his position, yet Niu Dali was still willing to take risks!
He needed to find out what exactly was happening within the royal family so that he could prepare himself in advance.
Whether as a former servant in the harem or as a leader of a sect, there was little difference; both roles were ultimately subservient. When trouble arose, it would be him who bore the brunt.
Fortunately, he still had some financial resources and had dug deep enough into the ground; as long as he received timely information, he could still protect his life.
Upon reaching outside the palace, he scanned for a familiar leader among the guards. Straightening his back, he began to spout threats, but this time, the other party's eyes no longer held the previous respect and fear.
"We ask for your understanding, Niu Xianshi. His Majesty has decreed that no one is allowed into the palace. We must follow our duty. If there is truly something urgent, you may write it down, and I will deliver it for you."
"The Emperor has always held you in high regard; your matter will surely be prioritized. Just wait for a cup of tea's time."
Still maintaining a polite tone, Niu Dali felt stifled but couldn't express his frustration. The chaos within the palace meant that Ginger would also suffer; it was the common people who would bear the brunt of it all. The immortal had shown compassion by sending someone to inquire about matters in the palace, yet they failed to appreciate this rare opportunity.
The immortal's powers were vast; for him, dealing with them was merely a matter of raising his hand. They were given an opportunity—if only they knew how to seize it.
The Guard Captain hurriedly remained courteous; although it was somewhat troublesome, it was within their capabilities—just a matter of time.
It was said that the path of cultivation for immortals was arduous and fraught with challenges. If one shamelessly requested an immortal's intervention and interrupted their cultivation efforts, that would indeed be a grave sin.
Niu Xianshi made this special trip; they were already grateful in the palace and dared not make further demands.
"Please convey to the immortal that we still have some means of self-preservation within the palace. In due time, we won't trouble him further. We hope he can focus on his cultivation and achieve greatness soon so that Ginger can also benefit from his light."
Though Master Xiang's son had rebelled and learned martial arts, his silver tongue still carried some family tradition—he could talk circles around others. Niu Dali felt regretful inside; if he had known this would happen, it would have been better to find someone else to engage in conversation instead.
