When the Elder Chief truly approached him, the Cursed Dragon froze, panic washing over him. The calamity that had befallen their clan today was all because of him.
"I don't blame you!"
Caught off guard, he was surprised when his father spoke first. Zhu Teng had always been stubborn, refusing to admit his mistakes, but today, those three simple words shattered his defenses. Tears streamed down his face, and just as he was about to utter words of repentance, he heard his father continue.
"It’s all my fault! I was greedy and wanted to monopolize the Treasure. The moment I made the wrong decision, the fate of our clan was sealed. You and the entire clan have suffered because of me. If you weren't my son, with your talent, you could have achieved great things. Why should it come to this?"
Zhu Teng rarely saw such pain in his father's eyes.
"No, Father, you were thinking of the clan too."
"But ultimately, it was my overestimation of myself," the Elder Chief said with a bitter smile. "This day will be filled with suffering. I will find a way to preserve your soul. In your next life, I hope you can have a pair of parents."
In such dire circumstances, where was there any hope for survival?
"Father! Do you really believe they will allow our clan's souls to be reincarnated?"
The notion of flesh-eating was utterly absurd; many believed it, but just as many did not. Yet today, over eighty percent had taken action.
They were merely using the pretense of flesh-eating to drag everyone into complicity, preventing any scandal from leaking out. If that were the case, how could they possibly leave us a way out?
The Dragon Clan not only possessed formidable physical strength but also had resilient souls. Even in reincarnation, it was highly likely they would retain memories of their past lives. How could they allow such loose ends to exist?
Zhu Teng's gaze swept across the gods and saw that same half-smiling expression as they watched the scene unfold.
Originally swayed by his father's apology, his resolve now solidified.
"Father, do not plead with them any longer. Do not give them another chance to insult you." Zhu Teng sighed sadly, appearing resigned as if he had given up struggling. "Father, please come closer; let us say our final goodbyes."
The Elder Chief forced a self-deprecating smile and complied, stepping closer and reaching out for an embrace. But as he drew near, Zhu Teng bit down hard on his father's neck!
With fierce strength, he drew blood. Zhu Teng did not let the blood go to waste; he swallowed it down. The dragon's blood contained power, and Zhu Teng immediately activated the secret techniques of the Dragon Clan to seize some of his father's strength.
The Elder Chief was taken aback by Zhu Teng's ferocity. He didn't understand what his son intended to do; after a moment of shock, he chose to endure the pain and remained still.
Having gained a bit of his father's power, Zhu Teng finally managed to communicate telepathically.
"Father, I am going to be unfilial again! I want to go wild one last time before I die. Rather than survive for a few moments only to be humiliated by them at will, I would rather succumb to madness right now. In that state, my power will surge; since demons are inherently antagonistic towards each other, if I give it my all in a fight—even if it's just one against many—I might still take a few down with me."
"Father, there used to be a rule in our clan: succumbing to madness is seen as a disgrace. But we are already at our end; I truly cannot think of any other method."
Now, it is just the two of us left.
You are the leader of your clan, nurturing the Black Dragon Lineage, gaining countless glories, and thus cannot succumb to darkness.
As for me, I have always been rebellious; today, I voluntarily leave the clan and willingly embrace my downfall.
But succumbing to darkness is not something one can simply wish for.
Father, today this unfilial son will kill his father and break the clan's unity to embrace darkness, committing the heinous act of patricide as a method to declare my intent to the demons, cutting off my retreat and hastening my descent into darkness.
The Elder Chief understood Zhu Teng's meaning and let out three long howls to the heavens. With the clan gone, what rules could possibly remain? Teng'er sacrifices himself for the clan's revenge; what wrong is there in that?
