Liu Xueqing adjusted her bundle, as if giving up on moving forward, leaving behind a trail of sorrow and carrying away a heavy load of gold and silver. She tightly gripped the handle of her bundle, her expression forlorn as she walked briskly.
"Master, you... you came out," she stammered, looking at the Master’s aged face, her heart instantly pierced by the sight of those deep wrinkles.
Her body trembled slightly, and her eyes were filled with terror.
Feng Changqing suddenly smiled, "When did I ever go in?" His lips curled up, a triumphant grin spreading across his face.
Liu Xueqing felt as if she had been struck by lightning, her finger trembling as she pointed at Feng Changqing, then at the old Master. "Y-you... you..." Her finger shook, and she stuttered as she spoke.
Feng Changqing patted the old man's shoulder. "Dong Hall Master, thank you for your hard work."
Dong Hall Master bowed his head. "It is my duty." He lowered his head respectfully.
Hearing this, Liu Xueqing's mind began to smoke. "Y-you... you..." She widened her eyes in disbelief.
Feng Changqing guessed that she wouldn't be able to make sense of it all right away, so he stepped forward and pulled her into an embrace. "Come on, my lady, let’s go back to 'you.'"
Feng Changqing smiled as he wrapped his arm around Liu Xueqing's shoulders.
Liu Xueqing could already smell the burnt scent above her head. "This can't be real!" She looked at Feng Changqing in disbelief.
Feng Changqing brushed the dirt off her hair. "It is real."
Liu Xueqing felt faint, pointing at Dong Hall Master for confirmation. "The Master is fake?"
"Fake."
"The male pet is fake?"
"Fake."
"Is the name fake?"
"Yes, it is. Only a few people know the truth."
Liu Xueqing dropped her bundle, her face filled with despair as she said, "Feng Changqing, tell me you're not lying to me." She released her grip on the bundle and covered her face with her hands, her expression one of anguish.
Feng Changqing lifted his sleeve to wipe her face and even kissed it despite the dirt. "How could I bear to lie to you?" he said gently, continuing to wipe Liu Xueqing's face with tenderness.
"Which part of you hasn't lied to me?" Had he not deceived her enough already?
"Only about this matter today," he assured her solemnly.
Liu Xueqing felt tears welling up. "Feng Changqing, how much have you really hidden from me?" Her eyes were red, and her voice trembled slightly.
The tunnel was long, and by the time they emerged, the sun was already bright in the sky.
It should be noted that Liu Xueqing had spent so much time digging the tunnel that it took two months to draw the map of the demonic sect's terrain.
She patted her dirt-covered hands and passionately bid farewell at the tunnel's entrance. "Feng Changqing, you scoundrel! May you live your life as a male consort!" She clapped her hands together and shouted loudly.
"Madam!" A voice called out from behind.
Liu Xueqing stiffened and turned her head slightly, clasping her hands in greeting. "Elder Yao, it's a pleasure to see you again." Her body was rigid as she turned around, bowing awkwardly. After speaking, she quickly turned and ran away.
"Leader!" A chorus of voices called out behind her.
Liu Xueqing abruptly halted, clutching her chest in despair. It was over; the leader had emerged from seclusion. She clenched her fists and kept pounding on her chest in frustration.
"Leave the person behind; the bundle can go."
Liu Xueqing felt a surge of joy, ready to drop her burdens and flee, when suddenly something felt off. The words seemed reversed, and that voice—
“Madam, I have come to take you away.”
Madam?
Liu Xueqing slowly turned around, and upon seeing Feng Changqing… along with the old leader beside him, her face twisted into a grimace of despair. She turned fully, her eyes filled with hopelessness.
How many things had he kept from her? Let him count.
For instance, the matter of her tearing off his belt was actually him using his inner strength to break it, then secretly stuffing one end into her hand.
Then there was the fact that the Elders had once been spies sent by Leader Liu, but under his gentle persuasion, they had now become loyal to the demonic sect.
And yet again, the pigeons she had released were all captured by his men, plucked and skinned, which was why the entire sect feasted on pigeon meat that day.
And yet again and again, he had fallen in love with her at first sight—an instant attraction and all that…
However, he still did not intend for her to know.
Because their story was just beginning…
