The Empress's Mind is Unraveled
So what if they are immortals? They still die.
Watching the severed head of Hao Juan roll away, Chen Anlin took a deep breath.
Suddenly, he noticed the Empress on the ground move slightly. Chen Anlin hurried to support her, feeling the lingering pull from the sky where she had ascended. As the battle between the two powerful figures concluded, the force continued to draw Wu Xixue upwards, lifting her into the air.
Chen Anlin was at a loss for what to do. He shook Wu Xixue gently. "Your Majesty, Your Majesty..."
"It hurts... so much..."
"Just hold on."
He hoisted Wu Xixue onto his back and glanced at Hao Juan's lifeless body before storing it in his spatial bag. At that moment, he realized that he could no longer prevent their ascension.
He shouted down to Yang Dou, "Sister Dou, neither of us is hurt, but she’s unconscious. Don’t worry, we will come back!"
"Your Majesty! Xiao Anzi!"
Yang Dou paced anxiously below, but upon hearing Chen Anlin's voice, her racing heart finally calmed. She attempted to rush into the beam of light ascending into the sky, but alas, as a mortal, she could not penetrate it.
In the end, she could only watch helplessly as two tiny figures gradually faded from view. The beam of light shrank until it condensed into a shape no larger than a strand of hair.
Chen Anlin had no idea how much time had passed. He felt as if his body were merely a speck of dust in this vast universe, ready to fall at any moment. Gradually, he lost most of his consciousness.
Finally, he struggled to find a rope and tied himself securely to Wu Xixue.
The sound of waves crashing echoed around them.
On an expansive beach, waves lapped against the rocks as the sea gradually spread towards the shore.
At that moment, the two people on the shore gradually began to awaken.
With a sudden rush, Chen Anlin opened his eyes wide, alertly scanning his surroundings.
Hiss, hiss, hiss...
As he regained his senses, a wave of intense pain coursed through his entire body.
It hurt! It hurt so much!
It felt as if every part of him had been beaten, and he grimaced in agony.
I’m not dead; I’m not dead. Where am I?
He glanced around and realized he was by the seaside.
Hiss, hiss, hiss...
He inhaled sharply, for even a simple breath here was sweet and fragrant.
It really is sweet!
The air was filled with spiritual energy.
This level of spiritual energy was something he had only felt in the Empress's private garden!
But the problem was that place was protected by formations, while here was just a beach.
Have I somehow arrived in the Immortal Realm?
This realization made Chen Anlin's heart race. He instinctively raised his hand and then noticed that Wu Xixue was still hanging beside him.
After untying the ropes, Chen Anlin quickly shook Wu Xixue: "Your Majesty, Your Majesty."
"Oh dear, it hurts so much," Wu Xixue said in a delicate voice.
Chen Anlin thought to himself: Why does the Empress sound so cutesy?
Then he saw Wu Xixue open her innocent big eyes.
After glancing at Chen Anlin, she began to cry: "Wah, it hurts! It really hurts!"
Chen Anlin felt a strong suspicion that something might be wrong with the Empress's mind.
Why does she suddenly seem like a little child?
"Your Majesty, are you okay?" Chen Anlin asked.
"Woo woo woo, it hurts so much, woo woo woo," she cried.
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty!"
"What do you mean, Your Majesty? Who are you?" The Empress looked at Chen Anlin in panic, suddenly realizing that her hands were bound. Frightened, she hurriedly untied the ropes, trying to escape.
However, as soon as she stood up, the pain in her legs made it impossible for her to stay upright.
"Ah!" The Empress shivered from the pain.
"Your Majesty, your legs are injured," Chen Anlin said.
"How could my legs be like this? Woo woo woo, help me, help me!"
Seeing the Empress in such a state, Chen Anlin's expression changed drastically. It seemed that her mind had been affected; her personality had transformed into that of a child.
This left Chen Anlin utterly confused. He quickly approached her and said, "Your Majesty, it's me, Xiao Anzi. Xiao Anzi."
"Xiao Anzi?" Wu Xixue stared at Chen Anlin's face, frowning. "Don't lie to me; Xiao Anzi is even shorter than I am!"
Oh no, it seemed Wu Xixue only remembered him from when they were children.
What is happening here?
Chen Anlin felt helpless. He hurriedly explained that she was injured and might have some memory loss. She was the Empress of the Great Zhou Dynasty, and he was her subject.
"Really? I don't believe you." Wu Xixue was somewhat skeptical of Chen Anlin's words.
Chen Anlin's temper flared up.
At that moment, the sky around them darkened. He thought to himself that staying here wasn't a solution; they needed to find a place to rest for the night.
"Your Majesty, let me carry you. Let's find a place to rest first."
With that, Chen Anlin knelt down on one knee, allowing Wu Xixue to grab onto his shoulders to climb up.
Watching this scene unfold, Wu Xixue suddenly seemed to remember something and murmured, "Chen Anlin, you really are Chen Anlin, Xiao Anzi."
