Chapter: Difficult Circumstances
The notification flashed before him: "Spend thirty thousand Luck Points to unlock the third level of the Luck Bottle."
Chen Anlin's heart raced at the sight of it. He could actually unlock the Luck Bottle again. Previously, unlocking the second level had cost him a whopping fifty thousand Luck Points! Yet this time, it only required thirty thousand.
He realized that during this period, his Luck Points had been steadily accumulating. He had even been contemplating gathering fifty thousand to upgrade, but now it seemed he could do it ahead of schedule.
Quickly, he speculated whether this was related to being in a place rich in spiritual energy. After all, the Luck Bottle had been absorbing the surrounding spiritual power throughout their journey, which was clearly unusual.
Regardless, he made up his mind to upgrade immediately.
"Ding! The Luck Bottle has unlocked the third level."
"Each month, spend one thousand Luck Points to search for opportunities within ten thousand units."
Chen Anlin's gaze sharpened in disbelief; he could now search for opportunities. Did this mean he had truly become a child of luck? While other children of luck might only gain opportunities through coincidence, he could actively seek them out.
In the blink of an eye, the two of them had rested here for over a month. Chen Anlin's injuries had fully healed, and he had gained a better understanding of his surroundings. They were by the seaside, with towering mountains ahead of them. He guessed that if they could traverse these mountains, they would likely encounter human settlements.
During their time here, he had stumbled upon some traces left by people among those mountains.
Wu Xixue had also recovered well during this period; her leg injuries had healed. Unfortunately, due to taking two Blood Strengthening Pills, her cultivation level had dropped to the fifth layer of Qi Training. This left Chen Anlin feeling helpless; it seemed relying on Wu Xixue would not be feasible for now.
On that day, he ventured out once more to explore the surroundings. This time, he intended to go a bit further; on one hand, he wanted to find a way out, and on the other, he planned to gather some food to prepare for the journey ahead.
He knew that two individuals with little strength leaving would undoubtedly encounter dangers along the way, but there was no alternative. He had to take the risk. Otherwise, he would truly be stuck here for life.
Ah, there were indeed quite a few seeds here. His luck seemed to be good this time as he stumbled upon a small path. The terrain was relatively gentle, making it easy to ascend.
He found over twenty seeds in total and collected them all, placing them into his fortune-enhancing bottle. Continuing upward, the path became increasingly difficult. However, along the way, he managed to find plenty of food.
Under the guidance of the White Jade Fairy, he even discovered a medicinal herb. The root of this herb was as white as jade and oozed a milky sap when dug up. The White Jade Fairy explained that this was a type of spiritual ginseng, something unique to the realm of cultivation.
During these days, Chen Anlin had come to understand that the species in this world were entirely different from those in the mortal realm. Even a small seed from a tree contained a trace of spiritual energy.
At that moment, Chen Anlin was quite hungry and decided to take a bite of the medicinal herb. The texture was delightful, accompanied by a sweet flavor. Before long, a fragrant essence flowed through his body, invigorating him significantly.
"Chen Anlin, you should head towards some celestial cities soon and find a way to obtain celestial seeds; then you can begin your cultivation!" The White Jade Fairy encouraged him. "You've already consumed that celestial fruit; with your physique, cultivating will surely yield twice the result with half the effort."
"Yes, I will," Chen Anlin nodded vigorously.
But just then, the White Jade Fairy suddenly exclaimed, "No! There's a Spike Wolf behind us!"
Having been engrossed in conversation with Chen Anlin, she had completely overlooked their surroundings. By the time she shouted her warning, it was already too late. The Spike Wolf lunged at Chen Anlin from behind and sank its teeth into his shoulder.
"Ah!!!" Chen Anlin exclaimed as the spiked wolf, with its foundation-building cultivation, bit into his shoulder, tearing away a chunk of flesh.
Enduring the pain, Chen Anlin quickly retreated, unleashing countless sword energies towards the spiked wolf.
Unfortunately, in the eyes of the powerful beast, the sword energies posed no threat whatsoever. Instead, it looked at Chen Anlin with a mocking gaze before devouring the large piece of meat it had just torn off.
"My flesh!!!" Chen Anlin gritted his teeth.
"Don't confront it head-on; you can't win," he recalled the words of Bai Yu Xianzi.
As soon as she finished speaking, Bai Yu Xianzi took Chen Anlin and left.
"But your soul power..." he started, but she interrupted him. "Find something that can replenish your soul power when we return."
In a blink, Chen Anlin realized he had already been taken away by Bai Yu Xianzi. The spiked wolf, initially eager for a feast, was enraged to find that Chen Anlin had vanished, spinning in circles and howling in frustration.
"Damn it! I actually ran into that wolf. Bai Yu Xianzi, I owe you one this time," Chen Anlin said.
"It's nothing. But you... you're injured now. You and Wu Xixue might find it even harder to get out of here," Bai Yu Xianzi replied.
"I understand. It seems I need to focus on healing for now," Chen Anlin said, lowering his head.
At that moment, they had arrived at the cave entrance. As they approached, they heard a series of sobbing sounds coming from inside.
Chen Anlin furrowed his brow and hurried into the cave, only to find Wu Xixue crying inside.
