"This is the antidote. Remember to take a tube every four hours. Stay alert and protect yourself; once dawn breaks, everything will be fine."
Feeling the cold vial in her hand, the girl finally reacted, grabbing Lin Yao's hand with urgency. "Who are you? Are you with the police? Why can't you take me away?"
"I'm not with the police. I can't take you away because we mustn't alert anyone."
"But I'm scared."
"Stay here; you're safer than anyone else right now!"
After patiently calming her down, Lin Yao managed to free herself from the girl's grip and stood up to leave. However, she hadn't anticipated that despite her clear explanation, the girl would still be uneasy. In a sudden move, she yanked at Lin Yao's invisibility cloak, pulling it down halfway.
Forced into the open, Lin Yao frowned and shook off the girl's hand. As she pulled the cloak back up, her tone turned stern. "Miss, I advise you to calm down. I'm only helping you out of convenience. If you insist on putting yourself in danger, I won't hesitate to leave you to these people!"
"I'm sorry! I'm just so scared!"
Lin Yao was too tired to listen to her rambling and left her with a quick warning before hastily making her exit.
She hurried back to the lavish guest room.
The guest was still selecting consorts, and the door was wide open. Su Rui stood waiting at the entrance.
Lin Yao wasn't sure how the invisibility cloak worked, but she and Su Rui could see each other without any hindrance.
Seeing her return, Su Rui quickly approached.
Lin Yao pulled him into a secluded corner to discuss their next steps.
"The situation is more complicated than I thought," she said. "I initially believed they would all be kept here without much caution during their operations. Once that guest cleared out the area, we could easily knock everyone out for the night."
"But now it seems this person wants to choose."
Those who were left behind might not be sent back but instead could be kept for that person's subordinates to enjoy.
If personnel were scattered like that, rescuing anyone without alerting others would become much more difficult.
"Should we just take down everyone on this floor?"
As they focused on their discussion, a gust of wind suddenly swept toward them.
Lin Yao turned her head just in time to see a large figure swinging a fist toward them.
She quickly pushed Su Rui away and threw a punch at the giant. The brute's physical skills were likely at level six or seven, far beyond Lin Yao's level four abilities. After the punch, her entire arm trembled uncontrollably. If she hadn't been prepared and had released some force beforehand, she might have broken her arm with that strike.
After the exchange, Lin Yao wanted to attack again, but Su Rui grabbed her and pointed to his ear. It was then that Lin Yao realized the giant must be unable to see them and was relying entirely on his hearing to locate them; he likely had a hearing mutation.
Understanding this situation, the two of them lowered their breathing to avoid detection. The giant, realizing he couldn't find them, shouted angrily, "Who’s there? Get out here now!"
The guards nearby heard the giant's voice and rushed over. Confused, they asked, "Old Seven, what's going on?"
"I just heard someone here!" the giant replied.
"Is it an invisibility ability?" one of the guards inquired.
"Could be."
"Then bring the detection device; we need to search thoroughly. They’re invisible, not gone."
Seeing that their hiding place was about to be compromised, Lin Yao and Su Rui exchanged glances and quickly sprang into action. Su Rui took out a spherical object and tossed it to the ground. A loud noise erupted, causing a splitting headache for everyone nearby.
Taking advantage of this chaos, Lin Yao threw a handful of powder into the crowd. The powder was a formula she had previously used against star beasts; now repurposed for humans, it worked just as effectively. In just a few moments, several people were knocked unconscious.
However, they underestimated the number and strength of the buyer's subordinates. Once the powder ran out, Su Rui's high-tech gadgets also proved ineffective against skilled opponents. Most importantly, they encountered a level ten lightning ability user who destroyed their invisibility cloaks with a surge of electricity. The two were soon chased down relentlessly.
In the end, they had no choice but to use a mini spatial teleportation device to escape from the base.
"I’m out of options," Su Rui lay on the ground in an 'X' shape, panting heavily. "What we do next is up to you."
"What level of martial arts do you practice? How come your stamina is so poor?" Lin Yao shot him a sidelong glance.
Su Rui seemed to carry some sort of advanced technology; when Lin Yao used her keen vision to look at him, all she could see was a swirling mist. However, in a world where everyone practiced martial arts and maintained a well-proportioned physique, his lanky frame made it clear that his skills were lacking.
"Why do you care? You should be thinking of a way to save that little fool, Tang Zhi. After all, you were the one who pushed him out there," she retorted.
"Aren't you also involved?" Lin Yao's words lacked any sense of reason.
If it were anyone else, she might not have cared, but Tang Zhi was indeed the one they had sent out. Leaving him behind felt like a betrayal to her conscience.
Seeing her lost in thought and silent for a long time, Su Rui worriedly advised, "You really shouldn't feel so pressured. I left coordinates in that room. Worst case, we can teleport over and rescue Tang Zhi."
Lin Yao shook her head. "No, I'm just thinking. I wonder who is backing Tang Zhi. If their people can't handle the opposition, wouldn't that just be sending them to their doom?"
Su Rui had no answer to that.
"Su Rui, can you adjust that noisy device of yours?"
Meanwhile, Tang Zhi, who had been in the guest room, heard the sounds of fighting outside and realized that the two had been exposed. His heart raced as he thought about the worst-case scenario.
At that moment, he was chosen first to serve the guest.
"Young man, our young master is a very good person. If you serve him well, I guarantee you'll achieve great success in the future." After giving this brief instruction, the attendant led the others out of the room.
Once everyone else had left, only Tang Zhi and the guest remained, and the atmosphere in the room became charged with tension.
Contrary to what he had imagined, the guest was not some lecherous figure; instead, he was tall and handsome with a strong masculine presence. His gaze towards Tang Zhi lacked any lewdness; instead, it held a hint of warmth and affection typically reserved for young people.
However, this gaze did not ease Tang Zhi's nerves; rather, it sent chills down his spine. The man leaned back on the bed and gently beckoned Tang Zhi over. "Come here and sit by me!"
Tang Zhi swallowed hard; instead of moving closer, he instinctively took a few steps back.
The man's brow furrowed in displeasure. "Are you afraid of me?"
The tone of his voice instilled a strong sense of danger in Tang Zhi. He hurriedly replied, "I—I'm not! I'm just not used to it!"
