At the same time, she conjured a sharp wooden spike in her hand. As the White-Horned Rhinoceros charged at her with its injured hind leg, she raised the spike and plunged it directly into the wound. The creature, already weakened by the Blood Thorn Grass that had drained its strength, felt its leg snap completely under the force.
The limping rhinoceros clearly struggled to adjust, stumbling with each step. Seizing the opportunity while it was slow to react, Zhang Feng struck at its other hind leg with two swift blows. Meng Xingchen finally regained her composure after the earlier scare and followed up with a few golden needles.
Before long, the rhinoceros's other hind leg was also rendered useless. With both legs incapacitated, the beast posed no threat. Lin Yao waved her hand, using her powers to crush the wildly growing Blood Thorn Grass, then called everyone to help clean up the aftermath.
Despite their earlier mistakes in battle, Lin Yao refrained from blaming them. Instead, she spoke earnestly: "The reason these two beasts were so easy to handle is that we outnumbered them and overpowered them. Moreover, these creatures have been domesticated; they are not only separated from their kin but have also lost much of their wild instincts. If we were in the wild facing a group of rhinoceroses, they would have sent out sentinels, making it much harder for us to launch a surprise attack."
Meng Xingchen bit her lip, visibly frustrated. Even Bai Zhenzhen, who had not participated in the fight and had merely observed, wore a serious expression.
Lin Yao smirked slightly to herself. This was just the beginning.
Among the four in their team, only Zhang Feng showed some awareness of combat; the other two were as inexperienced as novices. For their next target, Lin Yao chose not a herbivorous beast but a more challenging Tier Three carnivorous beast: the Lizard Leopard.
This creature resembled a leopard in size but was covered in large scales that could change color according to its surroundings. It combined the speed and agility of a leopard with basic defensive capabilities from its scaled armor and had the stealth of a lizard. Among Tier Three beasts, it was undoubtedly a jungle killer.
In the wild, Lin Yao and her team would not dare to confront such a creature recklessly. On their way, she began strategizing for her team.
"This beast won't be easy to deal with; you all need to stay alert," she instructed. "Meng Xingchen, you'll be responsible for drawing its attention. Can you gather your golden armor? Remember to put it on before we engage. When the Lizard Leopard attacks someone else, that's your cue to interfere."
Meng Xingchen nodded quickly in agreement.
"Zhang Feng, you're quick on your feet and experienced; you'll take on the main role in this fight. The Lizard Leopard is fast—attack once and then retreat immediately; don’t get greedy."
"I understand, Captain."
Bai Zhenzhen, this time you're in charge of control. Lin Yao handed her a seed from an exotic plant. The larger one was a Jiujiu vine seed, known for its entangling properties and average toughness. The pointed one was a mutated sword lily, which had a sharp edge and would automatically reproduce upon drawing blood. The smallest was a mutated catnip, which had a strong attraction to feline creatures. "Use them wisely at the right moment."
After explaining the seeds to her, Lin Yao continued, "In addition to these seeds I gave you, feel free to use anything you have on hand. Remember to be flexible and adapt."
The Lizard Leopard thrived in dense jungles. If it weren't for the positioning bracelet, Lin Yao might not have noticed the creature perched on a tree trunk like a leper.
Watching the lazy leopard licking its paws on the branch, Lin Yao acted swiftly, throwing a vine whip that knocked the unsuspecting leopard off the tree.
Felines are quick to react; even when suddenly pulled down, it landed on its feet. Aside from feeling a bit of pain, it was otherwise unharmed.
The Lizard Leopard let out a roar upon hitting the ground, but anyone familiar with leopards would recognize that its call sounded just like a cat's meow.
Hearing its furious cry, everyone sprang into action without hesitation. Meng Xingchen charged forward and unleashed a barrage of golden needles at the Lizard Leopard.
This creature had high agility but low defense; with Meng's poor aim, they had to adopt a group attack strategy. Unsurprisingly, the Lizard Leopard dodged the volley of needles and turned its body to pounce at Meng Xingchen.
Zhang Feng had been waiting for this moment. As the leopard lunged through the air without time to adjust its position, he struck downwards towards its head.
The Lizard Leopard couldn't change its downward trajectory but managed to quickly tilt its head aside. Zhang Feng's deadly strike missed and only grazed the leopard's ear.
Due to Zhang Feng's attack, the Lizard Leopard landed awkwardly. At that moment, Bai Zhenzhen activated the sword lily, which pierced through one of its claws.
The agile Lizard Leopard sensed danger at the sight of blood and immediately leaped out of the sword lily's reach. Feeling Bai Zhenzhen's presence, it prepared to launch an attack against her.
Just then, Meng Xingchen's golden needles arrived again, blocking its path of attack. The Lizard Leopard had no choice but to abandon its original plan and gracefully jumped away from the needles.
Meng Xingchen forced it into a direction where Zhang Feng was waiting. As it landed, Zhang Feng struck down with his knife.
At the same time, a vine reached out towards it but due to its quick reflexes, it only managed to ensnare one of its hind legs.
Because its hind leg was entangled, Zhang Feng's blade struck true, leaving a deep wound on the side of the Lizard Leopard. The vines only held it for a moment before the creature quickly broke free. However, the threat from Zhang Feng's attack made it wary; it no longer dared to continue fighting on the ground.
With a powerful leap, it climbed up the tree, intending to escape. Lin Yao had anticipated this move. As the Lizard Leopard ascended, a vine lashed out and pulled it back down from the branches.
Forced to land again, the Lizard Leopard let out an angry screech and charged directly at Bai Zhenzhen. This cunning creature had already identified her as the weakest among them. Yet, despite its intelligence, it could not outsmart humans. Lin Yao shouted, "Throw the medicine!"
Without hesitation, Bai Zhenzhen hurled a handful of medicine at the Lizard Leopard. Just as it was about to reach her, she suddenly vanished from sight. Lin Yao had used the vines to pull her to safety on the other side.
The Lizard Leopard emitted another furious cry and crouched low, preparing to launch an attack on Meng Xingchen. Zhang Feng quickly moved toward him, ready to strike while Meng Xingchen instinctively adjusted his stance for defense.
However, they were caught off guard. Taking advantage of their momentary distraction, the Lizard Leopard pushed off with its legs and climbed up the tree trunk, using its momentum to leap toward another tree in an attempt to escape.
Just when everyone thought the Lizard Leopard would break free from their encirclement, a massive net woven from vines appeared out of nowhere and blocked its path. Ultimately, the Lizard Leopard was unable to escape and was forced back into the fray by the constricting vines.
