In this way, her physical performance was significantly worse than that of her previous body. However, there was nothing to be done; many things could only be achieved through long-term training. Strength, speed, endurance, resilience, and reaction time were all crucial indicators of combat effectiveness.
After testing the strength of her limbs, they moved on to speed tests, endurance tests, resilience tests, and reaction time tests. By the end of the assessments, nearly all the students from the First Academy had failed. However, Xie Zhuo had anticipated this outcome. After all, the standards he set were such that even in military bases, very few could meet them all. The purpose of this was to humble these proud students, preventing them from becoming too self-satisfied and difficult to manage.
The first day's training concluded with various tests. Everyone was not only physically exhausted but also mentally shaken. Especially the top students from the military training class; after the tests, they realized just how inadequate they were and sighed in disappointment.
In contrast, Meng Xingchen, who consistently ranked at the bottom of Class One, remained full of energy.
"Hey, aren’t you upset that your performance is so good?" Lin Yao asked silently.
"No, I just feel that if I look too spirited while everyone else is downcast, it might seem out of place," she replied. In truth, she had merely been momentarily distracted by someone who looked familiar.
"Not out of place at all," Meng Xingchen said.
At that moment, Bai Zhenzhen approached from behind. "I really envy you three for being in the same class."
"There's nothing to envy about that," Meng Xingchen replied while pointing at Zhang Feng ahead, who was dejected. "Look at Zhang Feng; his martial arts skills have taken a hit."
Bai Zhenzhen rolled her eyes at him. "I’d rather face setbacks in Class One than have a huge gap between us."
"This is just a division based on martial arts and combat ability. If it comes to special abilities, I can't compete with you," Meng Xingchen reassured her.
"Having special abilities without solid martial arts will hold you back in battle," Bai Zhenzhen said with clarity.
"Just don’t rush it; this takes time. By the way, your martial arts should be close to leveling up too, right? You’ve been working hard for those twenty days preparing for the special recruitment exam," she added.
Bai Zhenzhen shook her head. "I don’t know; I haven’t felt any changes yet."
The conversation seemed to have hit a lull. Meng Xingchen felt a bit awkward as Bai Zhenzhen directly saw through his intentions. "Alright, you don’t need to find topics to comfort me; I’m not as fragile as you think! By the way, how did your tests go today?"
"I think we all failed miserably," he admitted. "Zhang Feng's speed and reaction time were quite far off; our leader only fell short in resilience while meeting all other standards."
Bai Zhenzhen quietly gave him a thumbs-up. "So the captain is still the captain. But why is he so downcast if he only missed one standard?"
I don't think the captain is feeling down just because of that unmet standard.
Of course not. She can’t possibly take on all three by herself, and if she’s feeling low, what about the rest of us? Should I just cry to express my feelings as the one at the bottom?
If you can cry, that is.
Well, never mind then.
That evening, everyone was emotionally drained and still had to tidy up their dorms. The dormitory was quite shabby—a small room meant for twelve people. It was filled with bunk beds, and the beds were small, just a meter long, which felt cramped for today’s students. Besides the bunk beds, there were only a few metal lockers.
The sight left many of the girls not just disappointed; some were on the verge of tears.
Seeing everyone standing around in a daze in the dormitory, Lin Yao reminded them, “Instead of wasting time being disappointed here, shouldn’t we hurry up and clean? If we delay any longer, they might turn off the water and electricity tonight!”
The others responded quickly.
Wan Xiaoqi was the first to react; she pulled Ye Yun and You Mi along to help Lin Yao fetch water and clean up. Once they started moving, the others finally followed suit.
Having gotten used to household robots, these girls were truly lacking in self-sufficiency. Lin Yao had to guide them step by step on how to clean up, make their beds, and organize their lockers.
After a flurry of activity, they finally finished tidying up just before the evening whistle signaled lights out.
Wan Xiaoqi lay on the bed next to Lin Yao and sighed, “You were absolutely right, Lin Yao. Plus, there’s a designated lights-out time. Good thing we listened to you! Just listen to the dorm next door; they’re still busy!”
Military management naturally followed strict rules. “We’re tired today; let’s get some sleep. I bet we’ll have an early wake-up whistle tomorrow morning.”
Upon hearing this, everyone, including Wan Xiaoqi, quickly closed their mouths and tried to drift off to sleep.
Lin Yao took advantage of this moment before sleep to open her system panel and check her gains for the day.

As Lin Yao looked at the system description, she felt a bit speechless. With all the talk about getting lost and signal issues, did the system really think she was directionally challenged? However, at least things were somewhat manageable. In the future, whether it was on desolate planets or wild stars, she wouldn’t have to worry about losing signal anymore.
On the second morning of military training, the whistle blew promptly outside the dormitory. Whether they had slept well or not, everyone had to get up quickly. While students in other dorms hurriedly scrambled to get ready, Lin Yao's roommates, thanks to her reminder, were the first to rise. They finished their morning routines efficiently and organized their living space without any delays. This way, they avoided the chaos of long queues that often happened when too many people tried to wash up at once, allowing them to have a more relaxed start.
The morning assembly on the second day of military training was certainly chaotic; it was the same for both boys and girls. The instructors, as per usual, launched into a barrage of motivational speeches aimed at these students until they no longer held onto their initial nonchalance from when they first arrived. Only then did they begin today’s training.
In the following days, they faced grueling training sessions designed to improve their weaknesses. After basic training together each day, everyone would focus on their individual areas for improvement. Xie Zhuo arranged for each member of Class One to pair up for combat practice or fight against robots. When it was Lin Yao's turn, Xie Zhuo directly said, "Lin Yao, come and spar with me."
