Lin Yao smiled and said, "No, I know all about that alien system and everything."
"How could you possibly know?"
"Of course, it's because I received an invitation to the Turing Pharmacology Summit."
"Ah?"
"Does Doctor Zhao know about the ability-enhancing potion?"
Zhao Chuan's eyes lit up immediately as he stared at her, bewildered. "What is that?"
"The potion was developed by me."
"Have I been blind? With such high talent, I still called you to be my assistant."
Lin Yao waved her hand dismissively. "That was just a coincidence. There’s still so much I need to learn, and I hope that in our future collaborations, Doctor Zhao will generously teach me."
"You don’t need to hesitate. I truly need to learn more. Additionally, I have one request that I hope you can agree to."
"Go ahead."
At this moment, Zhao Chuan didn’t dare to underestimate her at all.
"As you can see, I'm still quite weak and my foundation in pharmacology is very shallow. Therefore, I hope that over the next year, you can impart all your knowledge of pharmacology to me. After a year, I want to participate in the Turing Pharmacology Summit and learn all the potions presented there."
Lin Yao's face was filled with determination and conviction, but it didn’t sway Zhao Chuan; instead, he scoffed lightly.
"Lin Yao, having ambition is good, but you probably don’t understand the gap between our Yunmeng system and the alien systems. You won’t even know where to start with the potions; it’s impossible to reverse-engineer the formulas. Given such difficulty, do you really think you can learn all the potions from the summit?"
"How would I know if I don’t try?"
Zhao Chuan found her naivety amusing. "I advise you not to be too self-satisfied; it's important to remain humble. Developing an ability-enhancing potion is indeed impressive. However, our Yunmeng system has seen many geniuses throughout history. Many of them were just like you—full of confidence and hope. Yet after going out into the world, they returned defeated and disheartened. The technological gap of thousands of years isn’t something that can be easily bridged."
Lin Yao was not discouraged at all; instead, she smiled confidently. "Doctor Zhao should take a look at this first."
She opened her holographic computer and sent him a file.
Zhao Chuan's skepticism did not diminish, but as he opened the file, his expression gradually shifted from doubt to surprise and finally to excitement.
"H-How could this be? You only watched me formulate it once, and yet you managed to perfect it to this extent? No way, I need to go back and verify this!"
Lin Yao didn’t stop him; instead, she grinned and said, "Sure! Once you've verified it, remember to get back to me quickly!"
The Master Alchemist was a prominent figure at the First Research Institute. However, being such an established institution, the interpersonal relationships there were intricate and complex. Even Academician Zheng couldn't be 100% certain that there were no alien spies within his research team.
She wanted to quickly enhance her skills without drawing too much attention to herself. Zhao Chuan, a half-doctor and half-alchemist, seemed like a good choice for a mentor. Alongside Zhao Chuan, there were also the martial arts and abilities instructors who had been absent from the Command Department for some time; it was said they had been transferred from the military base.
Lin Yao pondered who would be unfortunate enough to find themselves in a situation similar to Zhao Chuan's at a critical moment. To her surprise, she encountered a familiar face during that day's martial arts class.
"Instructor Xie Zhuo, is that you?" Wang Jin exclaimed in astonishment.
Who would have thought their martial arts instructor would actually be Xie Zhuo, the instructor from Military Training Class One? There were several students from the Command Department in that class, and seeing Xie Zhuo brought a sense of familiarity.
"I applied for a temporary transfer to the First Middle Institute to teach martial arts before military training began. I was delayed for a few days due to some issues at the base. I hope we can continue to get along well in the days to come."
"Of course! As long as you go easy on us a bit, Instructor, we'll get along just fine," one student joked.
"Going easy is out of the question, but I will provide you with more professional guidance in martial arts. By the end of your three years of intermediate education, you'll be ahead of your peers!"
That evening, Xie Zhuo invited Lin Yao to the cafeteria for dinner and to catch up. To her surprise, he brought someone along.
"Who is this?" she asked.
"This person is rather persistent and insisted on coming along," Xie Zhuo replied with a cough. "How should I put this? I consider myself somewhat of an acquaintance with Lin Yao here." The newcomer smiled at Lin Yao and introduced himself, "Hello, I'm Chen Yiming."
Lin Yao was sure she had never met Chen Yiming before, yet his aura felt somewhat familiar. He claimed they were half-acquaintances.
"You're the instructor for the practical exam?" she asked.
"Haha! I knew Lin Yao would recognize me! Yes, I'm the instructor for the practical exam and also your abilities teacher in the Command Department."
"Hello, Teacher Chen Yiming," Lin Yao said politely as she stood up to greet him.
"Lin Yao, there's no need to be so formal; let's just interact normally," he replied.
"Thank you, Teacher Chen. By the way, what kind of special ability do you have?"
She was genuinely curious. Xie Zhuo had reached level seven in both physical skills and special abilities, yet he only taught physical training. What level of ability did Chen Yiming possess to be a physical training instructor in the Command Department?
"Take a guess."
Xie Zhuo couldn't stand his boastful demeanor and pushed him aside.
"He has wind-type abilities, peak level seven."
"Wow, that's impressive! No wonder he can be our special abilities teacher."
"Well, it's just average," he replied. "If you ever have any questions about special abilities, feel free to ask me."
"Sure."
Before Lin Yao could finish her sentence, her communicator chimed. She glanced at the name displayed and quickly apologized to the two teachers. "Sorry, I have to go. Something's come up."
"No problem, go ahead and take care of it!"
When Lin Yao rushed to the laboratory at the First Academy, Zhao Chuan was holding a vial of potion, unable to contain his excitement.
"Lin Yao, how did you do it? The formula you gave me—I tested it multiple times with the formula software, and it said it was the best configuration. After I prepared it myself, I confirmed it was indeed the best formula. How did you manage to upgrade the bone-repairing potion to a perfect formula in such a short time?"
"How did I do it?"
Of course, she had used her special ability to analyze it.
She had no choice; with only eighty years to catch up with several thousand years of technological advancement, how could she manage without some help?
However, she couldn't tell him that.
"This is my special ability. So, Zhao Yi, do you still think I lack the capability to learn those potions from neighboring star systems?"
Upon hearing this, Zhao Chuan straightened up and said seriously, "Lin Yao, I apologize for my ignorance. Rest assured, from today onward, I will share everything I know about potions with you. I guarantee that within a year, you'll become a senior potion master."
