Lin Yao followed his gaze and indeed saw the center of the battle, where two figures were locked in combat. Just as she was about to step forward, the situation on the battlefield changed rapidly.
The two fighters had been evenly matched, but suddenly, the one called Dushan drew a dagger and lunged at the leader of the Qinglang Gang. Caught off guard, the gang leader tried to adjust his stance but was still struck in the chest.
A member of the gang who had entered with Lin Yao shouted for their leader and rushed forward. Lin Yao was quicker; in just a few steps, she closed the distance and delivered a kick that sent Dushan sprawling.
Dushan, taken aback by her sudden intervention, initially resisted and attempted to strike back twice. However, realizing he couldn't win, he summoned his allies without hesitation and retreated.
Lin Yao was somewhat surprised by his decisiveness but did not attempt to stop them as she allowed their escape.
Once the people from District 38 withdrew, only members of the Qinglang Gang and those who had come to assist remained. Seeing the bodies strewn across the ground, she quickly searched for Lin Jue. To her surprise, he appeared beside her like a ghost.
"Lin Yao, you’re here too," he said.
In an instant, Lin Yao noticed that his eyes had turned crimson and dark patterns marred his face.
"What happened to you?" she asked curiously.
"Don't be afraid; I’ve activated my bloodline power," Lin Jue replied.
"Bloodline power?" Lin Yao was intrigued.
Having witnessed various extraordinary abilities, this was her first time hearing about bloodline power.
"They call me a monstrosity because I am a hybrid of human genes and those of a native beast from Black Porcelain Star—the Earth Spider," Lin Jue explained in a calm tone, showing no signs of embarrassment.
"How could such inhumane experiments exist?" Lin Yao had never heard of attempts to combine human genes with those of beasts before. It was utterly contrary to her understanding of humanity.
"What wouldn’t humans do to survive?" he said flatly, devoid of disdain or resentment.
"And what happened next? What were the results of the experiment?"
"The Earth Spider is the only beast that survived in high-pressure zones. Humans sought to gain its abilities because every month during magnetic tides, resources fall mainly in areas with high energy."
Half a year later, due to the force factor, the power zone was rotated, and those things had long been crushed into powder.
Thus, an outlandish idea emerged: to combine human genes with those of the earth spiders. Initially, the experiment seemed successful; humans became incredibly powerful after merging with the earth spider genes. However, problems soon arose.
The genetically mutated humans gradually lost their rationality, overtaken by the frenzied power of the beasts. Eventually, they completely lost their sanity and began indiscriminately slaughtering others. In the end, humanity had no choice but to unite and eradicate these irrational gene mutants.
However, due to the large number of participants in the experiment at that time, some individuals inevitably slipped through the cracks. Those who retained their sanity for a longer period allowed these mutated genes to persist. After several generations of dilution, the abilities were not as formidable anymore. If one did not frequently stimulate the beast genes intentionally, the loss of rationality would not occur so quickly.
Listening to Lin Jue speak about these matters in a calm tone as if they had nothing to do with her, Lin Yao found herself at a loss for words.
At that moment, a familiar gang member led a group of people over and knelt before Lin Yao in unison.
"Boss!"
Lin Yao was startled. "What are you doing?"
"Please let us serve you as our leader!"
"No." She still needed to find her teammates from Team Guang and was unwilling to be tied down in one place.
The familiar gang member knelt before Lin Yao and said, "Our gang leader is the only Level Six ability user in Zone 39. If he dies, our zone will be plundered for resources by others! Everyone here will starve."
Lin Yao wanted to say that it had nothing to do with her, but seeing their earnest expressions made it difficult for her to voice her thoughts.
After a moment of silence, she asked the familiar gang member, "What’s your name?"
"Boss, my name is Dongzi," he replied with a flattering smile.
"I see your physical skills are almost at Level Five; why don’t you take on the role of gang leader?"
"No way, Boss! In Zone 30, if you don’t have Level Six physical skills, you can’t maintain control."
"Then just improve your physical skills."
Lin Yao led Dongzi into a room and took out two physical enhancement potions from her system space. "These are physical enhancement potions; these two should be enough for you to reach Level Six."
However, Dongzi hesitated.
