"I understand, Boss. I'll get it done right away!" As Dongzi hesitated and glanced at her before leaving, Lin Yao felt a bit puzzled. Was there something else?
"There are some things I think you should be reminded of," he said.
"What is it?"
"You have spatial abilities and carry supplies. Don't expose them casually in front of people from the first ten districts. The people there are not as weak as those in our thirty-something districts. They have many high-level martial artists, and you might not be able to defeat them. If you encounter someone difficult to deal with, they may force you to hand over the supplies in your space."
The living areas of Black Porcelain Star were daunting from the very beginning. The smaller the number, the stronger the abilities.
The leaders of the first ten districts are all at least level nine or above, with some even reaching level eleven or twelve, far stronger than Lin Yao, who had just stepped into the peak of mid-level abilities.
There are always stronger individuals among the strong. This was a truth Lin Yao understood well.
She nodded in agreement, acknowledging his advice.
Fortunately, Lin Yao successfully retrieved her mech, but she had yet to hear any news from the other members of the Mingguang team. She wasn't too disappointed about it; after all, in such a brutal environment, no news was often the best news.
At that time, the situation had been urgent. With their life space on the verge of collapsing in space and without mechs, falling from such heights under complicated circumstances left them with almost no chance of survival.
To ensure their safety, Lin Yao had to take the risk of attaching her life space to the mech's anti-aircraft cannon and then firing it towards Black Porcelain Star.
The speed of the shell was faster than that of the mech. They would likely be ejected from the life space once they entered the atmosphere, but there was also a possibility that at the moment of explosion, their life space would expire, accidentally killing them in the process.
However, Lin Yao had been suffering from physical collapse due to prolonged high-intensity driving of the mech. After firing the high-speed cannon, she quickly lost consciousness.
After carefully storing her battered mech—barely recognizable—into her system space, Lin Yao decided not to stay in District Thirty-Nine any longer and prepared to search for opportunities in other districts.
Unexpectedly, she encountered a magnetic tide.
The magnetic tide typically lasted three to five days during which the gravitational force on the entire planet would intensify. Various objects would continuously fall from above, making it easy for someone to get killed.
Therefore, for these few days, everyone had to stay indoors and refrain from going outside.
Lin Yao was invited to stay at the Qinglang Gang's residence, which was much safer than Lin Jue's dilapidated house. However, as she watched various objects fall from the sky in a chaotic manner, landing with a thud, she couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder. She had seen rain, snow, and even artillery shells fall from the sky, but this was her first time witnessing supplies raining down.
After three days of magnetic tides, Dongzi immediately came to invite Lin Yao to join him in the resource area. Initially hesitant, Lin Yao decided to go along after hearing Dongzi mention that all the residential areas would be heading to the resource zone. She thought it might be a good opportunity to gather information about her teammates.
Driving several battered ground vehicles, Lin Yao took Lin Jue along while Dongzi brought members of the Qinglang Gang as they rushed towards the resource area. The thirty-ninth district was weak and poorly located, far from the resource zone. After more than a day of driving in the rickety vehicles, they finally arrived at the transfer area.
"Boss, do you think we should rest for the night before entering the resource zone or head in overnight?" Dongzi asked Lin Yao for her opinion.
"What do you usually do?" Lin Yao replied, not wanting to make a hasty decision and first inquired about their previous arrangements.
"The physical burden in the resource zone is heavy. We usually conserve our energy and enter the next day," Dongzi explained.
"Then let's stick to what you've done before."
With Lin Yao's input, Dongzi directed the convoy to continue driving for a while longer until they reached a large plain where everyone could rest. This area seemed to be a common resting spot as many people had already set up camp there.
Finding a slightly secluded spot, they parked their vehicles, and Dongzi began organizing the Qinglang Gang members to clear out a suitable camping site. Lin Yao and Lin Jue didn’t have much to contribute and instead wandered around nearby to familiarize themselves with the environment.
Dongzi enthusiastically approached Lin Yao and said, "Boss, if you want to find someone, you can wait until evening when everyone returns and ask around at each residential camp."
Lin Yao nodded in agreement and patiently waited. As evening fell, she heard a commotion; it was those returning to their camps. Among them, one team stood out most prominently.
Unlike other groups that were disorganized and acted independently, this team was remarkably orderly. Lin Yao overheard people discussing in a nearby camp: "That must be Team Dongfang from District Three. I heard they were already a cohesive unit before arriving at Heici Star; their level of mutual trust is much higher than that of other teams formed by random individuals. Look at how much supplies they brought back—more than District One or Two!"
Having abundant supplies was a significant advantage. Moreover, there was something different about them compared to all the others who had fallen; while others seemed to live day by day without purpose, this team exuded an unusual drive. It felt as if they were declaring that even Heici Star could not confine them.
Sigh, weren't we like this when we first arrived? After spending a long time here, I guess that initial drive will fade away.
They've been here for quite a while too; it should be over twenty years now.
So they have also been here for twenty years.
Listening to the discussions around her, Lin Yao suddenly felt a sense of resonance. If she stayed here for several decades and still couldn't leave, would she end up like those people?
Hopeless, going through the motions, like a walking corpse.
She suddenly found it hard to think any further.
"Lin Yao, what's wrong?" Lin Jue suddenly tapped her shoulder, breaking her trance.
Lin Yao shook her head, pulling herself out of that suffocating feeling. "I'm fine. Let's go. Help me gather some information about this camp."
Gathering news about others was relatively easier in the lower-ranked residential areas. When they saw her strength, they would generally be honest. However, in the slightly higher-ranked areas where strength mattered more, it became more challenging to get information.
After much effort, she managed to gather some news from over ten districts but still hadn't received any concrete information. As she noticed that people were starting to rest, Lin Yao had no choice but to temporarily give up on her inquiries.
When Dong Zi saw her return with a grim expression, he guessed that her attempts to gather information hadn't gone well. He leaned in and said, "Boss, I know a news dealer who might have some leads. But that person is quite shrewd; if it gets out that you just arrived, it could lead to unnecessary trouble."
"No. If I gather information like this, it would expose me anyway. Trouble is unavoidable."
