Taking advantage of the still early hour, Dongzi led Lin Yao to the information dealer, the Cripple.
As soon as the Cripple heard Lin Yao mention her purpose, a glimmer of interest appeared on his face.
"You want to find out if anyone has been picked up in all the residential areas a month ago?"
"Yes."
"I can help you gather that information, but if you want news from all the residential areas, the price won’t be low."
"Name your price. If I can afford it, I’ll pay you; if not, then forget it." Lin Yao was straightforward, unfazed by the Cripple's probing gaze.
The Cripple wasn’t easy to deal with either; he immediately wiped the smile off his face and said seriously, "If we exclude Area One, Area Three, and Area Five, I’ll only charge you the price of ordinary food."
It was the first time Lin Yao had heard of a price based on supplies, so she turned her gaze to Dongzi.
Dongzi quickly understood and explained, "The price of ordinary food is what we call 'fang food.' If it’s energy food, the price doubles. For our intermediate body techniques, we generally need at least one unit of ordinary food daily to ensure our skills don’t decline."
The Cripple also practiced intermediate body techniques. Based on this minimum consumption, one unit would only allow him to last a day. It didn’t seem too expensive at first glance.
But this was Black Porcelain Star; being able to meet even the minimum daily consumption was something only top-tier individuals or those with special skills could achieve.
So when calculated this way, the price wasn’t low—at least not something Lin Yao could afford as someone who had just arrived at Black Porcelain Star with intermediate body techniques.
"That’s too high; I can only offer half of that price at most." Lin Yao didn’t hesitate to cut the offer in half.
Upon hearing this, the previously lethargic Cripple instantly straightened up.
Regardless of how much the other party countered, if he wasn’t scared off by the initial price, the likelihood of closing this deal increased significantly.
"That’s impossible; I can only give you less than that."
"Isn’t that almost like giving nothing? It can’t go any lower than that. I’ve already gathered most of the information from those active areas; you only need to inquire about the top ten or so areas."
One party was asking for an exorbitant price while the other was bargaining hard.
"Heh, if your inquiries could yield real information so easily, how could I still make money as an information dealer?"
"Even so, I can only offer this much; if it goes higher than that, I’d starve myself—and then forget about gathering information."
"Little girl," he continued with a smirk, "I see you’re quite young yet already practicing intermediate body techniques. You must have had a decent life before coming to Black Porcelain Star. Now that you’ve ended up in such a place, I assume you’re eager to find your companions quickly?"
"And what if I am?"
"Your price is your speed. You name it, and I can get you news in no more than a day. Besides, once you find your companions, these supplies won’t be solely your responsibility anyway."
Lin Yao pondered for a moment before pretending to be swayed by him. "I need to receive the news within three days. This information isn't particularly secretive; I believe you shouldn't have to exert too much effort to find it out. Whether or not to proceed with this deal, Boss, you can think it over."
Seeing Lin Yao present her stance as if it were her bottom line, the cripple realized that they probably wouldn't be able to negotiate a better price.
"Fine, but I need three days. Little girl, don't push too hard on the price; you want it low and fast."
Lin Yao contemplated for quite a while before reluctantly nodding in agreement.
"Then let's settle the deposit first."
She didn't have any ordinary food on hand, so she turned to Dongzi. "Do you have any? Lend me some for now, and I'll return it once I've gathered what I need."
Dongzi chuckled bitterly. "Boss, I only have a limited amount of ordinary food, and that's all we've consumed in District 39 during this time."
"Then just lend me some for now." After borrowing from Dongzi in front of the cripple, she turned back to him. "As you can see, I can only scrape together a small deposit. If you agree, we can continue the transaction; if not, then this deal is off."
Having reached this point in negotiations, the cripple couldn't possibly refuse over such a small deposit. He could only agree with resignation. "This young lady truly opens my eyes. There's nothing I can do; after all, I'm in this line of work. Even if the deposit is a bit low, I'm willing to take some risks."
Lin Yao returned to the camp with Dongzi and handed over the food to the cripple, thus completing the transaction.
With the pressure of debt weighing on her, Lin Yao was much more proactive when searching for food in the gravity zone the next day. Although she had quite a few items in her system space, she was reluctant to use energy food for repayment when she could directly return with ordinary food.
Upon entering the gravity zone, Lin Yao quickly realized that things were not as simple as she had imagined. The gravity chamber established by the interstellar simulation was on an entirely different level compared to this gravity zone; the intensity was like comparing heaven and earth.
The energy required here was substantial; training body techniques in this environment would yield much faster progress than in an interstellar gravity chamber. It was no wonder that there were only about forty residential areas on Black Porcelain Star with populations in the hundreds of thousands, yet there were still thousands of people practicing advanced body techniques.
If it weren't for the lack of energy food, those super body techniques from the Galactic Alliance would likely be even fewer.
As she first entered the gravity zone, Lin Yao found herself unable to straighten her back under the overwhelming gravitational pressure. It was only under Dongzi's guidance—constantly circulating energy within her body—that she managed to adapt and move around successfully.
After all, she was at level one in body techniques; after about an hour of adjustment, she began to search more effectively.
Her luck wasn't too bad; as she searched along her path, she collected some exotic plants and creatures, stuffing them into her storage without fully understanding their value.
Dongzi reminded her that if she encountered anything particularly valuable, she could discreetly stash it away in her space when no one was looking to minimize disputes later on.
After asking him what types of food were considered valuable on Black Porcelain Star, Lin Yao left behind the people from District 39 and ventured into higher gravity areas.
The black porcelain star had a severe level of disruption. The average level was classified as "level," while "level level" was considered the backbone, with anything above being rare.
Lin Yao's physical skills allowed her to reach the gravity zone. There were very few people around; she could go several kilometers without encountering anyone, which meant she could cover a vast area on her own.
She found an unoccupied spot and began to scavenge extensively. As she busily picked up items, she felt an overwhelming sense of joy. However, this excessive happiness led Lin Yao to lose her sense of direction.
When she finally looked up again, she realized she was standing in front of a raised hillside. The black porcelain star was mostly flat plains, making hills quite rare, which surprised Lin Yao.
