Upon entering the starship hall, Lin Yao immediately sensed that the atmosphere was somewhat tense. However, her arrival seemed to lighten the mood. Koqi stood up, grinning widely. "Haha, Lin Yao, my young friend, you’re impressive! You went down for less than an hour and managed to bring Captain Yao and the others back safely."
Yao Zhengqi had always intended to nurture Lin Yao, often sending her to handle matters that required coordination with Koqi. As a result, the two had become quite familiar with each other. Koqi had watched Lin Yao evolve from a novice in advanced physical techniques to her current level of expertise. Her rapid progress was something even Koqi had never witnessed before.
What was more remarkable was that not only was her strength increasing, but her interpersonal skills and strategic thinking were also improving significantly under Yao Zhengqi's guidance. Aware of Lin Yao's capabilities, Koqi refrained from making any rash moves after learning she had gone down to rescue people. Although he harbored certain ambitions to control the starship, his primary desire was to escape; he didn’t want any complications arising from external factors. Fortunately, his caution allowed Yao Beiluo to stabilize the situation.
"Thanks to your efforts, we were quite lucky and found Captain Yao and the others right away. Everyone is here now, right?"
With tensions easing, Lin Yao didn’t want to stir up any further trouble. Seeing Koqi extend an olive branch, she readily accepted it. They had already gathered everyone who could be found; those who couldn’t be located would not be waiting any longer. This starship was a significant energy consumer, and given their limited resources, it would be best to leave as soon as possible.
Lin Yao nodded. "Alright, I’ll have the cockpit prepare for takeoff."
Although they had gone through numerous data calculations before, this would be their first real encounter with the Chaotic Nebula. Both groups were focused in the cockpit, observing as the starship entered the nebula. The chaotic colors were instantly pushed aside by the ship, revealing a patch of pure color within the nebula. The starship showed no signs of distress, which excited everyone present.
"This is going well! It looks like we should be able to leave safely!" Koqi said with a hint of excitement in his voice.
Lin Yao firmly nodded in agreement. "Yes, I believe we will definitely make it out safely!"
Meanwhile, near the entrance of the Chaotic Nebula on Yunmeng Star, many starships were gathered. On one of the largest ships, an increasingly aged Academician Zheng was directing a group of people who were busy working from dawn until dusk, finally managing to arrange everything.
At that moment, a middle-aged man sitting nearby spoke up: "Academician Zheng, we’ve just finalized this technology; shouldn’t we wait for more calculations before proceeding with the actual construction? What if something goes wrong?"
Before he could finish his sentence, Academician Zheng shot him a sharp look. "Director Xie, if you’re really concerned, perhaps you should hurry along your logistics team and get your materials delivered as soon as possible. After all, whether or not we succeed can only be determined once we actually start building."
If it weren't for Xie Jinwen being the head of logistics for Yunmeng, Academician Zheng wouldn't have wanted to bring him here at all.
Building a jump point was no small task. Instead of trying to secure more materials, Xie was constantly obstructing their progress. He either thought they were rushing the construction or was nitpicking about missing materials, which severely impacted their timeline. If it weren't for Xie's past assistance in helping Yunmeng Star break free from the control of Eastern civilization, Zheng would almost suspect that he was an undercover agent sent by a rival civilization.
After being reprimanded by Academician Zheng, Xie Jinwen felt a bit disgruntled but, due to his high status here, he dared not say anything and could only leave with a sullen expression.
His assistant, Yuan, who had been standing by his side, was quite worried. "Academician, with Director Xie's poor cooperation, should we report this to the higher-ups and have someone come over?"
Zheng shook his head. "No need. This period of downtime is something the higher-ups worked hard to secure for us. They are already busy enough; we shouldn't trouble them with such minor issues."
Since Academician Zheng had said so, Yuan Bo, as his assistant, could only comply.
Not long after, someone else came looking for Academician Zheng, forcing him to get busy again. It wasn't until evening when the starship setup was complete and everyone else had gone to rest that he finally found some time to himself.
However, he refused to slack off. Taking advantage of the quiet night, he continued to verify data, determined to minimize any issues with the construction of the jump point.
After Yuan Bo brought him another vial of stimulant potion, Zheng hesitated before saying, "Academician, it's late. You should take a break. You haven't rested properly in over ten years since you received this data."
Hearing this, Zheng paused for a moment. After a long sigh, he replied, "Yuan Bo, every time I think about how these data and my life were exchanged by those young people risking their lives, I can't afford to rest even for a moment. If we reach the deadline without completing the jump point construction, wouldn't I be letting down those kids and all the predecessors who fought so hard?"
"Academician," Yuan Bo said gently, "I understand your concerns. But now that the jump point construction is right in front of us, shouldn't you conserve your energy to deal with any situation that may arise? Besides, those young people saved you; I believe they would prefer to see you live well rather than wearing yourself out like this."
At these words, Academician Zheng seemed to see Lin Yao's youthful and confident face before him; he could almost hear her say: "Academician Zheng, I believe in you!"
With renewed determination, he straightened up and said firmly to Yuan Bo: "Yuan Bo, give me another stimulant potion!"
Yuan Bo felt helpless. Similar conversations had occurred countless times over the past decade; each time ended in much the same way. Yet he couldn't bear to watch the academician suffer through such hardship.
In the end, Yuan Bo still swapped out the stimulant potion for a sleeping potion when Zheng insisted on staying awake.
Watching as Academician Zheng quickly fell asleep after taking the sleeping potion, Yuan Bo hurriedly helped him into his office's resting area. Even if Zheng woke up furious the next day and berated him for wanting to replace him as an assistant, Yuan Bo remained steadfast in his decision.
For the past decade, in order to expedite the advancement of leap technology, Academician Zheng and his team have been tirelessly researching the relevant data. Finally, six months ago, they completed several models for the leap points and confirmed the feasibility of the leap point plan. He promptly reported to the high-ranking officials of Yunmeng, applying for permission to construct the leap points on-site. To ensure the construction of these leap points, the top leadership granted full support across Yunmeng, urging all officials to cooperate wholeheartedly with Academician Zheng in the development of the leap points.
